<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Nice try! (I'm confused. On the NHL website, it says that compensation is based upon the amount offered by the new team; over $10M, four first-round draft choices. Does that mean per year or total contract value?)</div></div>
You take the total contract value (in this case it is 7 years times $8,000,000 for a total contract value of $56,000,000) if the term is 5 years or greater you divide the contract value by 5.... if term is less than 5 years divide by the number of years to get your compensation value (in this case $56,000,000 divided by 5 equals $11,200,000) then you find out where that value fits in the Compensation Range..... in this case 4 First Round Picks.
