Well done with this trade. I think both teams get what they are looking for though I would hope that GM Adams would not have to throw Bjork in the deal. If he has to I would rather see him send a prospect from Rochester.

Fellow Sabres Fan I think you could be correct but something tells me Adams would be willing to deal Oloffson. I think his 5x5 game is suspect and not what Adams wants in his prototypical player. There were flashes last year that signaled maybe he is figuring it out then he would go 2 weeks without being in the right position defensively. I would certainly add him in the deal I mentioned earlier if that meant the return I was going to obtain.

From a Sabres viewpoint this return for Capt. Jack is within reason. Though I am not wild about the Fleury aspect though being able to pick up Krebs & Glass with Tuch added makes me very very happy!!!!

I have to agree that I do not think that is a package that the Ducks would be willing to pay for Capt. Jack. I think a more reasonable package is:
Ducks 2021 1st Round Pick
Zegras
Comtois
Perrault
for
Eichel
Olofosson
Montreal 2021 3rd Round Pick
Buffalo Sabers 2022 3rd Round Pick

From a lifelong Sabres fan since inception and a 30+ Season Ticket holder for both the Sabres and Bills there is one underlying aspect to why both franchises were is the depths of horrendous performance and that is the inability to draft quality players. If you look at the horrendous drafting done by the Buffalo Bills during the years from 2000 to 2016 the Buffalo Bills had 36 picks in the 1st and 2nd Round they hit on 9 of those picks that is a 25% success rate of a player being drafted in the first or second round playing a key role on your team. If you then look at the Bills drafts from 2017 - 2019 they have 5 out of 7 being starters and major contributors. I consider Cody Ford as a miss (also keep in mind that outside of the the first 2 rounds the Bills have Milano, Singletary, Knox & Taron Johnson as starters from Rounds 3-7). If you miss on your first and second round picks in the NFL you are done.
Now lets look at the Buffalo Sabres drafting from 2000 - 20217 the Sabres had 42 picks from the 1st & 2nd Round they hit on 10 of those picks. Out of the 10 (Eichel, Reinhart make up 2 of the 10). If we look at the Sabres draft from 2009 - 2014 they had 49 picks. The following is a list of contributors from those years:
2009 - Marcus Foligno
2010 - 9 picks and none of those picks ever played a significant role for the Sabres
2011 - 6 picks and zero production
2012 - 8 picks and 3 players Girgensons, McCabe & Ullmark
2013 - 11 picks and 1 player Ramus Ristolainen
2014 - 9 picks and 2 players Reinhart & Victor Olofsson
Now you add in the dysfunction of a revolving door at GM & HC. Since 2013 the Sabres have had 7 head coaches (Ruff, Rolston, Nolan, Blysma, Housley, Krueger & Granto). They have had 4 GM (Reiger, Murray, Botterill & Kevin Adams).
Ownership allowed the top players to run the organization as it relates to HC and GM and this should never be the case. Until ownership decides that they are going to stick by a GM & HC no matter what it will not change. The Bills figured it out. They have a GM & HC that all the players drafted, signed as Free Agents or come via trade that this is McBeane world and what they say goes.

From a Sabres standpoint this is one of the better trades I have seen for Samson.
I am on board with the following tweaks.
Keep your 4th Round pick in 2021 and add the 2021 First Round Pick of Toronto. The Tampa Bay pick is basically a 2nd Round pick the way the Sabres draft.

The problem for GM Adams is he has a plethora of issues to deal with on this roster and organization. Keep in mind Terry & Kim had him fire the whole scouting department and anyone else that was associated with hockey except for the Zamboni drivers but they are on notice. GM Adams already has his own salary dumps on his current roster to deal with so to add another one in which there is only delayed benefit is a bridge too far.
If GM Adams was willing to go to Terry and Kim to request he be allowed to make this deal with the intention to bury Ladd or Okposo in the minors (hey Terry & Kim you are still paying GM Murray, GM Botterill, HC Housley & HC Krueger what is burying another).
The timing of this deal is what does not work for the Sabres. They have lost their fan base and a delayed benefit 3 drafts out will not bring the fans back.

GM Kevin Adams was born at night not just last night.
Seriously if you want the new GM to take a cap dump then at least give him a kiss not a promise of a kiss that is 3 years away. A first in 2023 is comparable to a 3rd or 4th this year. So you want the new guy to give you a 6th Round pick and take on 2 years of $4,375,000 of salary for a 3rd or 4th Round pick.
GM Kevin Adams politely declines.

You are preaching to the choir my friend... you are not going to find many posters on the site who will agree with you that Samson has REAL value. Samson would most certainly sign a long term deal with the Kings and almost any other club on the West Coast of USA & Canada if the following are addressed:
1. He wants to be wanted by the team so term is critical to him.... he has never been made to feel as if he is important or matters to the development of the Sabres organization as it has been others who get the long term contract and the money;
2. The dollars have to be in a range that is acceptable for his talent. he has been grossly underpaid for his career and that is on the Sabres;
I for one would love for GM Adams to say hey Samson I will give you a 8 year deal for $9,000,000 a year once I move Capt. Jack. I think the Sabres chose the wrong player to make the face of their franchise.

I voted YES though I think GM Adams would want an upgrade from the 3rd Round pick. My suggestion would be Tyler Madden or Arthur Kaliyev. If this type of upgrade was to happen I would think the Sabres add a 3rd Round Pick 2021 Montreal.
My trade would be:
Eichel
Montreal 2021 3rd Round Pick

Alex Turcotte
Samuel ****emo
Madden or Kaliyev

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Iggy11</b></div><div>Think you're undervaluing the Zucc/Rask contracts -- I understand the money alone seems like a cap dump but I don't see it as such. Adams and Buffalo know they're going to be bad again next year. Rask's contract is up at the end of next season, that's 4 mil off the books to try build through free agency. Zucc is still a great player, and granted year 1 in BUF won't be much, but when he's in the last year of his deal in year 2, that's one hell of a deadline trade piece for a playoff team. Think of what Columbus got from Toronto for Foligno -- Zucc isn't far off from that return, hell he might even net the same.
I get the hesitancy for BUF, and I get the Greenway suggestions, but a year and a half of some extra money on the books with a center core of Cozens and Rossi is a lot more attractive than having Eichel waste away there.</div></div>
The money or contract for Zucs/Rask are not the issue. The issue is Buffalo does not attract players who have already played multiple seasons in the NHL. The Sabres have to avoid this type of player as they end up with a horrendous attitude because they were sent to Siberia..... The risk is that Rask or Zucs comes in and negatively impacts the young core..... This is the Taylor Hall and Staal debacle this year neither player wanted to be in Buffalo and their attitude was not what the room needed....
GM Adams is more likely to take 4 Draft picks than having to bring on a POTENTIAL negative attitude. What has dogged this organization (this is coming from someone who attends every home game earlier to watch the pre skate and warmups) and watch every away game on TV) the tank allowed an attitude of 'we suck' into the room. The constant changing of HC & GM with changing systems created confusion for the players and made the players start to believe maybe I do really suck. Capt Jack comes in and he is not a leader he is too 'I' and wants no blame for anything which only isolates the young players when it comes to their interactions with the Captain. Drury, Perrault, Pomminville, Gaustad, Vanek, Briere, Martin, Gare, Ramsey, Ruff, Robert, Luce, Hasek they all had personalities that made other players gravitate to them and they lead by example and would never throw a fellow team mate under the bus. This organization misses this type of leadership.

Eichel to Philly Wishful Thinking
Thank you for putting together this trade for the community to comment on... your efforts are very much appreciated.
GM Kevin Adams would decline this trade for Capt. Jack as it does not really address what he is looking for in a return for his Capt. GM Adams has said this is the beginning of a rebuild of this organization so he is tearing it down and starting from scratch. The Laughton & Konecny would be good pieces in most deals but not this type of deal. These are established players who may or may not want to play in Buffalo therefore GM Adams would not look to bring them in as he only wants young players or prospects or draft picks who he knows will be interested in wearing the Sabres sweater.
Patrick fits what Adams is looking for in regard to age but I am not sure he can be defined as a TOP prospect any longer. His game just has not yet materialized at the NHL level.
Morgan Frost has a very limited number of games played in the NHL and his age and status would fit what GM Adams is looking for as part of the return.
I will give you IMO what it would take from the Flyers for GM Adams to deal Eicel:
Morgan Frost
Tyson Forester
Joel Farabee
Philly's 1st Round Draft Pick in 2022
the Sabres would send Philly:
Eichel
2021 3rd Round Draft Pick Montreal

GM Adams would decline this offer. He can not afford to take on 2 additional cap dumps when he already has 2 of his own on his roster. As a new GM he can not have his hands tied with 4 cap dumps to deal with on his roster.
IMO GM Adams would see Zucs and Rask as a negative return in this deal devaluing the Rossi and 1st Round pick. If you really need to move 10 million in salary to make the Eichel deal than as previous comments mentioned Greenway needs to be in the deal. I will go a bit further not only would Greenway have to be in the deal but also another prospect or pick. Maybe GM Adams can go to Terry and Kim and convince them to bury one of the dumps in Rochester.

I was waiting for that retort....
Bemstrom has struggled considerably. He was very streaky in his first year where he played 56 games going 10 + 10 for 20 points but for long stretches he was MIA and was a complete non factor in the playoffs. Then last year was not a season we can say that he is or is not NHL ready. At best he is a bottom six winger at this point who may develop into a 2nd line winger but I think this is remote. A .33 points per game just does not move the needle.
Eric Robinson has more games played in the NHL and again the best I can say about him is that maybe he will stick as a bottom 6 winger. His 120 games played with a .25 points per game is not going to get anyone excited if it does then you should be a fan of the Buffalo Sabres.
I appreciate that the only thing you garnered from my post was that the two prospects have not played in the NHL. Actually if they had never played in the NHL would have been a better argument that they have potential. Instead they have actually played in the NHL and demonstrated that they are no more than 3rd liners.
Again I ask how does CBus get that type of return by giving up so little?

MN brings home Casey
Thank you so much for the effort required in posting a trade for the rest of us to comment on.... Your efforts are very much appreciated.
I was wondering when the Casey trades would start to pop up on the site.
I just listened to a interview that GM Adams gave and he spoke at great length about what his overall plan was for development of his team. He specifically stated he was interested in developing the core of his young talent that is excited to wear the Sabres sweater and play for the organization (specifically mentions Dahlin, Cozens & Mittelstadt). He did not mention Eichel, Samson or Risto which really cemented the idea that all three of those will be dealt. I found a Brandon Beane type of swagger in this interview. Beane came in and said he specifically stated he would build his roster around young talented players who wanted to be Buffalo Bills.
Looking at your trade assuming that GM Adams would be willing to move Casey this offer is not enough IMO. I will start with the cost to acquire Capt Jack (yes Adams stated he wanted the equivalent of 4 First Round Picks) so lets discount that to 3 First Round Picks.
Dumba is valued at 2 First Round Picks
Minnesota 2021 1st Round Pick #22 & Pittsburgh 2021 1st Round Pick #26 equates to one 1st Round Pick as my assumption is Adams would see this as a package to try to get into the 6-10 range;
I think the aforementioned would be acceptable for Eichel (personally I would not accept the package but for purposes of this discussion lets say it is enough for Adams to say lets play the fued)
This leaves Beckman for Casey and this is where this deal falls apart. I GM Adams was to deal Casey he will hold out for an overpay on him not an underpay. He is looking at trading his two top talents in Eichel and Samson for a return in the low end of the spectrum which will probably come back to bite Adams. There is no way he is dealing Casey for something less than an overpay. If he does he might as well just accept that he will never be able to step foot in his hometown ever again!!!!

I think GM Adams would seriously consider this return for Eichel. IMO I think it is range of fair value & what Adams would perceive as fair value for Capt. Jack. I am sure that Adams would lobby for Rossi in the deal since the two first round picks are in the 20's.
All in all a very good effort from the Sabres perspective well done fine sir!!!!!
