<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Yotes269</b></div><div>I really don’t understand how Buffalo got this far off the rails. I know you guys are craving a winner but man I just don’t see how you can build one without a complete restart</div></div>

From a lifelong Sabres fan since inception and a 30+ Season Ticket holder for both the Sabres and Bills there is one underlying aspect to why both franchises were is the depths of horrendous performance and that is the inability to draft quality players. If you look at the horrendous drafting done by the Buffalo Bills during the years from 2000 to 2016 the Buffalo Bills had 36 picks in the 1st and 2nd Round they hit on 9 of those picks that is a 25% success rate of a player being drafted in the first or second round playing a key role on your team. If you then look at the Bills drafts from 2017 - 2019 they have 5 out of 7 being starters and major contributors. I consider Cody Ford as a miss (also keep in mind that outside of the the first 2 rounds the Bills have Milano, Singletary, Knox &amp; Taron Johnson as starters from Rounds 3-7). If you miss on your first and second round picks in the NFL you are done.

Now lets look at the Buffalo Sabres drafting from 2000 - 20217 the Sabres had 42 picks from the 1st &amp; 2nd Round they hit on 10 of those picks. Out of the 10 (Eichel, Reinhart make up 2 of the 10). If we look at the Sabres draft from 2009 - 2014 they had 49 picks. The following is a list of contributors from those years:

2009 - Marcus Foligno
2010 - 9 picks and none of those picks ever played a significant role for the Sabres
2011 - 6 picks and zero production
2012 - 8 picks and 3 players Girgensons, McCabe &amp; Ullmark
2013 - 11 picks and 1 player Ramus Ristolainen
2014 - 9 picks and 2 players Reinhart &amp; Victor Olofsson

Now you add in the dysfunction of a revolving door at GM &amp; HC. Since 2013 the Sabres have had 7 head coaches (Ruff, Rolston, Nolan, Blysma, Housley, Krueger &amp; Granto). They have had 4 GM (Reiger, Murray, Botterill &amp; Kevin Adams).

Ownership allowed the top players to run the organization as it relates to HC and GM and this should never be the case. Until ownership decides that they are going to stick by a GM &amp; HC no matter what it will not change. The Bills figured it out. They have a GM &amp; HC that all the players drafted, signed as Free Agents or come via trade that this is McBeane world and what they say goes.

Thread: Free Eichel
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Iggy11</b></div><div>Think you're undervaluing the Zucc/Rask contracts -- I understand the money alone seems like a cap dump but I don't see it as such. Adams and Buffalo know they're going to be bad again next year. Rask's contract is up at the end of next season, that's 4 mil off the books to try build through free agency. Zucc is still a great player, and granted year 1 in BUF won't be much, but when he's in the last year of his deal in year 2, that's one hell of a deadline trade piece for a playoff team. Think of what Columbus got from Toronto for Foligno -- Zucc isn't far off from that return, hell he might even net the same.

I get the hesitancy for BUF, and I get the Greenway suggestions, but a year and a half of some extra money on the books with a center core of Cozens and Rossi is a lot more attractive than having Eichel waste away there.</div></div>

The money or contract for Zucs/Rask are not the issue. The issue is Buffalo does not attract players who have already played multiple seasons in the NHL. The Sabres have to avoid this type of player as they end up with a horrendous attitude because they were sent to Siberia..... The risk is that Rask or Zucs comes in and negatively impacts the young core..... This is the Taylor Hall and Staal debacle this year neither player wanted to be in Buffalo and their attitude was not what the room needed....

GM Adams is more likely to take 4 Draft picks than having to bring on a POTENTIAL negative attitude. What has dogged this organization (this is coming from someone who attends every home game earlier to watch the pre skate and warmups) and watch every away game on TV) the tank allowed an attitude of 'we suck' into the room. The constant changing of HC &amp; GM with changing systems created confusion for the players and made the players start to believe maybe I do really suck. Capt Jack comes in and he is not a leader he is too 'I' and wants no blame for anything which only isolates the young players when it comes to their interactions with the Captain. Drury, Perrault, Pomminville, Gaustad, Vanek, Briere, Martin, Gare, Ramsey, Ruff, Robert, Luce, Hasek they all had personalities that made other players gravitate to them and they lead by example and would never throw a fellow team mate under the bus. This organization misses this type of leadership.

Thank you so much for the effort required in posting a trade for the rest of us to comment on.... Your efforts are very much appreciated.

I was wondering when the Casey trades would start to pop up on the site.

I just listened to a interview that GM Adams gave and he spoke at great length about what his overall plan was for development of his team. He specifically stated he was interested in developing the core of his young talent that is excited to wear the Sabres sweater and play for the organization (specifically mentions Dahlin, Cozens &amp; Mittelstadt). He did not mention Eichel, Samson or Risto which really cemented the idea that all three of those will be dealt. I found a Brandon Beane type of swagger in this interview. Beane came in and said he specifically stated he would build his roster around young talented players who wanted to be Buffalo Bills.

Looking at your trade assuming that GM Adams would be willing to move Casey this offer is not enough IMO. I will start with the cost to acquire Capt Jack (yes Adams stated he wanted the equivalent of 4 First Round Picks) so lets discount that to 3 First Round Picks.

Dumba is valued at 2 First Round Picks
Minnesota 2021 1st Round Pick #22 &amp; Pittsburgh 2021 1st Round Pick #26 equates to one 1st Round Pick as my assumption is Adams would see this as a package to try to get into the 6-10 range;

I think the aforementioned would be acceptable for Eichel (personally I would not accept the package but for purposes of this discussion lets say it is enough for Adams to say lets play the fued)

This leaves Beckman for Casey and this is where this deal falls apart. I GM Adams was to deal Casey he will hold out for an overpay on him not an underpay. He is looking at trading his two top talents in Eichel and Samson for a return in the low end of the spectrum which will probably come back to bite Adams. There is no way he is dealing Casey for something less than an overpay. If he does he might as well just accept that he will never be able to step foot in his hometown ever again!!!!
