Dream Offseason
As a wings fan, thanks for that favor! I don't think that's fair to you guys...although if he comes back healthy and plays like he did at the beginning of this year, it would be a steal!

Love that green trade. not sure edm goes for it though. Agree with other commenters that the ghost deal probably doesn't happen.

We are never getting forsberg or Mackinnon. We might be able to put together a package with some of our best prospects and some good picks for ONE of them but it would drain our farm system. Both of those deals are terrible for colando and Nashville.

Next Year Trade Deadline
Yes. More likely that Green goes at the deadline next year if we are still not contending for anything. Although it is also possible he gets moved after the season, leading up to the expansion draft. Nonetheless, if he has a year similar to this year (double digit goals on a poor team) he should be the cream of the crop of next year's deadline targets.

That Detroit trade seems lopsided in favor of the wings. Am I missing something?

Trade with Oilers - Feedback
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div><i>
The yotes ate 50% of Yandle's contract in order to get that trade and Yandle was 28 where Green is 31. I can see the similarities between the trade ideas, but there are also additional pieces that need to be factored in.</i></div></div>
Very true. I didn't mention all the factors. However, I still believe the returns could be similar. Yandle hasn't scored double digit goals since 2012. Yes Green is older, but he is also much better. He may be 31 but you only have to pay him until he's 32/33. It's not like the team getting him would be signing up for the 6 mil cap hit when he's 35/36 and clearly declining. Clearly, retaining on the deal would help returns. All else being equal, Green should return more than Yandle because he is a higher quality player.

I've never been a huge fan RNH. If you're putting a package together for Vanek and Green I'd rather go the "good prospects and picks" route but I'm not sure EDM would be willing to do that...it does take two to tango. I don't think Wings management is going to shop Green...but if they did (based on the ARI to NYR Yandle deal) he could probably fetch a 1st + a decent prospect...maybe even another piece all on his own. I'd rather keep our 2018 3rd, not take on a 6 mil dollar contract that will only have a year or two left on it once we're competitive again, and use the high pick we get to help draft our own 18/19 yr old center of the future (to hopefully pair with Larkin of course).
Just my opinion of course. In a vacuum, I think this would be decent enough return but I'm not sure it's what the wings should be going for with the state of the books.

Yeah. I feel ya. It would be nice to unload him. I'd definitely do it if all they wanted was to move up in the 3rd round.

True. I guess that could happen. But it'd be for two years instead of one, and I think they'd still have to pay him his salary. He wouldn't "refuse to report" or whatever they called it with Datsyuk. Part of the reason they took pavel is because they didn't have to pay him a dime. I'm not sure moving up 19 spots in this years draft is going to be enough incentive.

We'd have recapture penalties if Kronwall retires. Can't just unload him like Dats

I think that's about as good as we'll get for Vanek, especially with the conditional first aspect. I'd pull the trigger in a heartbeat once we're officially out of it.

They are in rebuild mode. Don't let the public statements fool you. Someone will surely offer a pick or two for Vanek so this deal will not get it done.

Double DT
Two established middle 6 wingers for a couple role players, a handful of medium prospects, and one first round pick? I don't think so. Quality over quantity my friend. I don't think the kings have the top end prospects to get a blockbuster like this done. Not having a first rounder for the past two years doesn't help.

I believe the Wings politely decline. Wilson doesn't do much for us considering the state of the organization. Young guys on their ELCs and/or picks is what they should be looking for.

The more I look at it the more I like it. I don't think it makes sense for CGY though. 3 decent prospects from a wildcard/borderline playoff team team doesn't bode well for the future health of the organization.

You would be taking on widemans contract for like 4 weeks. You're unwilling to do that if we get good prospects back? I get it if you don't think these are good prospects, that's always up for debate but to be unwilling to take back money on an expiring contract doesn't make sense.
