Montreal Canadiens Appropriate Salaries
Danault around 6M$ ???? Listen he's not getting over 5M$ next year from any NHL team. Just look at his offensive stats with a 30+ goals Gallagher and a team leading scorer in Tatar... He's barely hovering on 50 points.

Petry took a paycut signing for 6.2M$/4years. Is he overpayed ? No.. you should look at the market. Right-handed defenseman that put as much points and goals a season are rare and usually paid around that same price. If not of covid, this contract would be really good. Now, it just looks like a proper contract. Not exceptional but not bad either.

redesigning contracts
Salary based on a yearly contract only - Cap hit for 2021.
High: Danault (4M$), Armia (2.2M$), Weber (6M$), Kulak (1.5M$), Allen (2.8M$)
Low: Chiarot (3M$), Tatar (6M$), Drouin (5.5M$), Anderson (5.5M$), Price (8M$)
I would have loved Gally at 5.6M... It would have been a sweet contract.
If I was to give a contract for Suzuki, KK and Romanov today it would be 6M$, 4M$, 3M$ respectively for the year.

Why not keep Tatar and Kotkaniemi ? It would be nice if Byron gets drafted. I dont think MTL has what it takes to trade for Dubois unless CLB takes less than his value.

Calling it now
As a habs fan, I prefer we pull out of a Dubois trade. Its going to hurt more in the long term. Look at Duchene's trade. KK is going to be a really good 2nd center no doubt about it. KK is also a year younger than Suzuki... He's going to improve a lot every year.
Mete has closely no value. He was about to be sent to the minors... Tatar still looks good tho but is going through his final year and is heading into UFA. He's not what CLB wants.

Great ! Lehner-Fleury could have also made the list. Price-Allen can still arguably be compared to any you have listed, plus none of the duos will play in a canadian division.

The Habs have a good top line. They also have a good 2nd line. The 3rd is where they kinda drop off
Defense was fine before Edmundson. There was no need to sign him
And Price-Allen is no the best tandem in the league, not even top 3</div></div>
I do agree with you for defense.. Edmundson is already on a bad contract. Only if he plays his best hockey, he will be worth it. However, he's taking the spot of a young guy. Seattle might be interested in taking Allen. Edmundson ? Chariot ? I'm not sure, they don't have great value.
When saying something like Price-Allen is not in the top3 duo's of the league, at least give your top 3 ! Or it just looks like you're hating.

Montreal definitely takes the deal. Issues are that Stamkos is not leaving Tampa for Montreal. He would rather play in his hometown Toronto.

Canadian Division Prediction
Toronto and Edmonton are overrated. Its simple, their stats are crazy. Only when you look at the offence. Next season - because of the condensed schedule, without a good backup goalie, I don't give a **** for toronto or edmonton. Their top 5 + goalie will be tired at the end of the season. They might be the best team at the beginning of the season, but I see Montreal and Calgary doing some damage later in the year.

who wants to pay Danault at 6.5M for FIVE years ??!!??? He's overrated. Been playing with the best wingers Montreal had for three years and barely made 50 points. If he wants to stay in Montreal, he will have to look for at most 5M for 4 years. Probably less...

Player Rankings
I would put Kotkaniemi below Josh Anderson (because of their respective career accomplishment) and Lehkonen above Byron. Lehkonen at least adds a physical side in his play. He's not afraid to go in the traffic. He's always third line. While Byron is either a 4th liner or 3rd at best.
In defence Kulak has recently played better hockey than Mete. He's more useful in general. He was paired with Petry in the playoffs and looked good.
For prospects Noah Juulsen, even though he missed last two years, I think is higher than Mysak and Kaiden Guhle because he proved that he can be a top 4 defenceman in the NHL (Before his eye injury). This years pick havent played a single NHL game yet... A single PRO game yet.

WINNIPEG TRADE
Solid Trades. However Kyle Connor is loved in Winnipeg. It would be crazy to trade him.
No one wants to be in Paul Byron's shoes for the years coming. It feels like every A-GM about the Habs has him shipped away with a draft pick.

3 bad contracts
I only see Lucic and Ladd as terrible contracts.
If either Fleury or Tkachuk is your 3rd one then I don't think it passes your " little-to no impact " on the team rule. Even though Fleury is getting no love at Vegas the last few weeks he's still one of the most loved, respected leaders in the group AND has an impact on the team.

Montreal Canadiens signed Kaiden Guhle (3 Years / $1,345,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Norm31</b></div><div>bro are you stupid? Gunler, Reichel and Preeault can be top 6/1st line forwards but Guhle is a gauranteed NHLer who will be at best a 2nd pair dman. Gunler, Reichel and Pereault would maybe be reaches but why not trade down? Guhle shouldn't have been taken in the 1st round. He is scared of the puck and makes bad decisions with the puck, he is a liability offensively. The only good thing about him is his size which is madly overvalued and he is good at defence. Guhle was one of the worst picks in the 1st round.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Norm31</b></div><div>well if thats the case I would take Mercer. Lapierre is too much risk, Schneider is a lot like Guhle in terms of ceiling (gauranteed NHLer at best 2nd pair.) This shows how stupid Bergevin and the scouts are. I don't know what they see in Guhle but I doubt he is ever gonna be worth it</div></div>
I don't know how you can get that cocky and absolutely sure that you're right and Bergevin's scouts wrong. As long as im concerned, I don't watch ALLLL junior games especially not Europe so I can't judge their actions. We'll just see in 2-3 or even 5 years if they got it right. At that point, say what you want. But right now they put their bet on Guhle and we'll see how it goes... you can't start comparing stuff you have no knowledge on.
And yes i'm confident you don't have the knowledge, cause anyone who watches junior games and scouts players know how impossible it is to forecast their future with 100% accuracy as you're doing right now. Don't call people stupid just because their opinions are different than yours...

Why is Tatar 100% gone ? 5 years @ 5.5M isnt enough ?
Armia... I don't care for 3 years @ 2.5M I keep him. If he wants more then get Caufield or Ylonen and bye Armia.
I put CGY but ANY team that needs NHL players and contracts to get to the salary cap hum *Ottawa* hum.. then do it. I don't care of the value.
So what would it take for Seattle to choose Edmundson ???? Btw they can still take Lehkonen and Juulsen if not protected (they will be RFAs)

I would prefere Tatar over Danault... I just think we would be better with keeping talent and scoring skills over defensive skills.
I don't underestimate Danault's impact on the team but i think MAYBE Poehling (in 2 years) or an old vet with experience can do 50% of Danault's job on the 3rd line.
EDIT: I really like the lineup tho !

I wouldn't trade Tatar to a direct rival in the same division. And signing Taylor Hall also means that either Danault or Gallagher have to go. I would trade Danault before his last contract ends so we get something in return at least.
