Wild Next Year After Fiala Trade and More Moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tonyhzs</b></div><div>Wow, this team is going to suck. Ryan Hartman 1C? Ouch. The top 4 is very above average, but not spectacular. I always liked Minny. Always felt bad that they have always been too good to rebuild and too bad to contend. That all changed with Matt Dumba head bashing Raymond to the ice. That douchebag needs to have his face bashed in to the point he can't eat from his mouth for the rest of his miserable life.</div></div>
Beyond the incorrect and frankly classless comments about Dumba, Ryan Hartman was MN's 1C for the entire season last year and his stat line wasn't too shabby.

(MIN/SJS) - Donato for 2021 3rd round pick (PIT)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drewjenkins</b></div><div>
<strong>I'm assuming Toronto got better value than Minnesota.</strong>
<strong>But can someone please explain what I'm missing?</strong>
<strong>Is there some glaring flaw in Donato's game?</strong></div></div>
I feel like if you look at the Donato trade as a precursor to the Dubnyk trade, it makes a lot more sense. (Although I do think we sold a little low on Donato, he wasn't going to get the top 6 time he needs to shine IMO, and there was apparently attitude rumors? I can't verify that one.) If you look at both trades together as one it becomes:
To San Jose: Devan Dubnyk (50% salary retention) + Donato + 2022 7th Round pick
To Minnesota: 2021 3rd Round Pick, 2022 5th round pick
This value seems a little bit better to me, but still a bit of a low sell. Dubnyk was abysmal last year, and the Wild were able to get out of his contract without a buyout.
As for Kapanen, in my opinion, the Pens overpaid for him with that 1st included in the deal, especially at 15OA in a deep draft, so the slight underpay for Donato due to Dubnyk and the slight overpay for Kapanen makes that difference seem a lot larger.
Just my 2 cents!

Phew, no more Domi to Minnesota for Dumba ideas.

(SJS/MIN) - 2022 5th round pick for Dubnyk + 2022 7th round pick
Unpopular opinion:
I don't think MIN "lost" either trade with San Jose.
Donato didn't and won't get top 6 minutes in Minnesota, Dubnyk's value was roughly the same as a bag of pucks, so the fact that we didn't have to buy him out and even got a pick for him is huge IMO.

Minnesota Wild signed Nico Sturm (2 Years / $725,000 AAV)
I think the signing is just fine? League minimum for a 3/4C with some upside to bolster center depth. Can't have a team full of guys worth 10 million. Depth is necessary or else you end up like Toronto.

As a Wild fan, I'm not sure if the Wild know what the Wild are doing. Hopefully, there's a plan?

GM Guerin Announces Team Will NOT Re-Sign Mikko Koivu
My guess is that Koivu doesn't want to retire, otherwise the Wild would have let him make that announcement rather than announcing that they weren't going to resign him. I'm betting he signs on a cheap deal with a contender to act as a 4th line C to do PK and D-zone draws. Shelter his minutes a bit and I bet he's got a couple of years left in him if he wants it.

Moving up in draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ste_Catherine_Street</b></div><div>..so for arguments sake, what kind of player would it take to move up 7 spots? A young prospect? So many draft board have said the picks 6-15 are very suggestive depending on who is picking.
Also, minny is trying to shed money and get younger..enter Mete</div></div>
Shedding money and getting younger.. Wouldn't Minnesota just choose at 9 then?
As others have said, MN needs forwards, particularly center, and trading down for another LD isn't really in the cards.

Get Boeser
I think the only way we're moving Rask's contract is for a late round pick and retaining something silly like 50% salary, or buying him out, which is probably worse.

Leafs are in a hard spot though. They need a strong defensive-minded D-man and already have lots of scoring. If Marner wants too much they might HAVE to trade him somewhere.

I wish the Wild would do something
Probably true. Would Duchene be a better choice? He had a bad year last year but was on a bad team and Colorado wants the world for him from what I understand. Maybe the Wild will be fine without any shiny new pieces and Ennis will work out but I don't have any hopes for that.
