(STL/MTL) - Allen and 2022 7th RD pick for 2020 3rd RD pick and 2020 7th RD pick
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drewjenkins</b></div><div><strong>I don't know if it's a "MASSIVE W!!" ...</strong>
Montreal paid a 3rd round pick for a backup goalie making $4,350,000 next year.
They easily could have signed someone equivalent for less, without giving up a 3rd in a deep draft.
Lehner
Holtby
Markstrom
Crawford
Khudobin
Anderson
Howard
Greiss
Talbot
Miller
Smith
Elliott
Dell
Are all UFA's and capable backups.
And most of them aren't getting $4,350,000 in a Covid-19 marketplace.</div></div>
Goalies that are better than Allen:
Lehner
Holtby
Markstrom
Khudobin
Greiss and Talbot are around as good as him.
So Lehner, Holtby, & Markstrom will all be number ones. Khudobin will get a pretty decent contract (definitely longer than 1 year) where he’s the 1A or 1B. As for Greiss and Talbot, I’m not sure their cap hit will be much lower than Allen’s and they’ll both get multi-year contracts.
So Allen was clearly the best choice for the habs out of goalies available now.

Actually you can't as soon as team doctors clear him for contact the team has to activate him from LTIR or risk penalties for cap circumvention which are as follows
In the event that the System Arbitrator finds that a Circumvention has been
committed by a Player or Player Actor, the System Arbitrator may impose any or all of the
following penalties and/or remedies set forth below. In the event that the System Arbitrator finds
that a Circumvention has been committed by a Club or a Club Actor, the Commissioner may
impose any or all of the following penalties and/or remedies set forth below:
(i) Impose a fine of up to $5 million in the case of a Circumvention by a Club
or Club Actor, but in no circumstances shall such fine be less than $1
million against any Club or Club Actor if such party is found to have
violated Article 50 of this Agreement. If such a fine is assessed against a
Club (except in the case of a financial reporting violation), that Club's
Payroll Room shall also be reduced by such amount for the following
League Year, and if such reduction of the Club's Payroll Room renders the
Club out of compliance with the Payroll Range (i.e., the Club does not
have sufficient Payroll Room to accommodate its Player commitments
comprising Club Salary) for such following League Year, then the Club
must take such steps as are necessary (e.g., Assignment, Buy-Out,
Waivers, etc.) and as are permitted by this Agreement to ensure that the
Club will be in compliance with Article 50 of this Agreement upon
commencement of the following League Year;
(ii) Impose a fine against a Player of up to the lesser of $1 million or twentyfive (25%) percent of a Player's Paragraph 1 Salary in the case of a
Circumvention by a Player or Player Actor, but in no circumstances shall
such fine be below the lesser of $250,000 or twenty-five (25%) percent of
the Player's Paragraph 1 Salary. Notwithstanding the $1 million limitation
set forth above, any additional amounts by which the Player has been
unjustly enriched due to the Circumvention shall be ordered to be
disgorged;
<strong>(iii) Direct a Club to forfeit draft picks (the number, placement, and League
Year of which shall be determined in the Commissioner's sole discretion);
(iv) Declare a forfeiture of any NHL Game(s) determined to have been
affected by a Circumvention;</strong>
(v) Direct a Club to disclose and report to the Independent Accountants all
information required by this Agreement, including, without limitation, by
the provisions of Article 50;
(vi) Void any SPC, or any extension of an SPC, between any Player and any
Club when both the Player or Player Actor and the Club or Club Actor are
found to have committed such a violation with respect to such SPC or
extension; and
(vii) Suspend any Club employee, Player, or Certified Agent involved in such a
violation for a period of time determined in the sole discretion of the
Commissioner, the System Arbitrator, or the NHLPA, respectively.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>worcat</b></div><div>That's exactly what I've been saying. The only way Petro takes max money is to go to a noncontender. A simple cash grab. If he wants to play for a contender, he's not going to get 9mil a year. He's going to have to take a price cut, and if he doesn't take a discount to stay in StL then your guess is that he already has his mind made up. I can't see any teams spending major money right now, but with Petro knowing he will have to take a price cut, it'll be his choice if he wants to stay in StL.</div></div>
Oh i totally agree with you, With these uncertain times no GM is going to make any crazy moves in free agency. Until we know what's going to happen pretty much everything is at status quo. We shall wait and see everything for now is just wait and see what happens to the rest of the season.

Allen is more than worth a pick and a second, but if you feel that strongly I could see a 3rd given the AAV hit. Even if Petro's term goes a full 8, anything over 10 is an overpayment. You cant manage a team thinking that a couple 10+ million players can run the whole team. This isn't Toronto... lol

I love how you still cling behind this as if 300 ****es is in any way comparable to a stadium full of people (like 15k?) plus the support of most of the fanbase throwing **** at a player. Then add in the conspiracy theory and the denial of reality on what you did (you did a lot more then scream and cry bud) and the constant crying. How is every other fanbase able to let things go except for little brother in NY? Columbus did it. STL looks like they will do it. NJ did it. Maybe even Arizona depending on where Hall signs. Those same Leaf fans gave Kawaii a hero's welcome after a very tense contract negotiation.
I am sorry you wasted the youth of a super star. Doesn't mean you need to act like toddlers.

Yeah, I think this works out nicely for both teams
St. Louis gets a solid 3rd line LW, a 2nd round pick in whats projected to be a very solid draft, and a 3rd round pick
We get a solid 3rd line C, a decent middle 6 center who we're hoping could have a bounce back season, and a decent goalie who could push Jones and start if need be
San Jose has decent goaltending, decent defense, a solid top 6, and a great center core. The only glaring weakness is our 3rd line wingers but they're both young and still improving.

Y’know, that could probably work. Winnipeg is probably one the only places Steen would waive to go and the Blues save close to 3 million by trading down 15-20 picks. My first choice is to trade Allen and cash in on his awesome season, but this could be something as well.

A different approach Blues Leafs

One could say that but at this point at least for the very near future the Blues would be considered contenders and the Leafs are not</div></div>
1- He's 26 now. He's not "young" anymore, he's a veteran.
2- He's had one season anywhere near 72 points. The other five full seasons, he's averaged less than half of that (34.2 to be exact). His next highest total was 52, which is a little more than the pace he'd be on this season if not for some games missed to injury.
3- The "one of the best" was referring to his contract. And I'm sure we could both think of a sizable list that would come in ahead of the value in his deal. But since you mentioned it, I don't think anyone outside Toronto considers Reilly a star defenseman. Lots of players that aren;t really stars have had one starring season in a career. And until Reilly has another one, he's in that category.
As for Petro, Army seems to think it's worth a bet that hes the kind of defenseman that willl age quite gracefully. He's not a pure speed guy and he's not a straight bruiser, he's more of a skilled cerebral player like, say, Lidstrom. And I agree with Army's assessment. I also realize that the Blues are the only team Petro's ever known, he's a folk hero for life here, the buck goes further in STL than it does in Toronto and he has a STL-born wife/infant triplets to consider.
