Avalanche fans HELP
I hate the avs, but you can never deny great hockey when its on display. my thoughts-
1. I think Colorado likely wins the central or comes in a very close second to the only other possible contender for the division title in St. Louis IMO. Top 3 in the west is a lock.
2. Unless there is a horrible struggle to start the season, I dont think you can break up Mack, Gabe, Makar and Rantanen. The 5th man is probably either Lehky or chush. But you never know, Newhook, Erod or Compher could realistically see time at some point on that first unit. depending on if they roll with 2 D on the second unit like they did at points last year, I would think its Toews for sure and Girard getting that second spot, with Byram getting some looks. Forwards are dependent on who the 5th man on the first unit is.
3. I think they are going to have another great season and guys are all going to have either a season to match the last one or an even better one. Aside from the top line, I think Chush will have another great season I think hes really got some confidence now. Newhook i think will have a breakout year with a lot of opportunity to play 2C likely. And Lehkonen will have a great year now that he gets a full season to play with the team and possibly get some time on the first line. Erod is the wildcard for me. I eager to see how hes plays. When Pittsburgh had a ton of injuries the first half of last years regular season, Rodrigues had an insane amount of points given how hes never been known as being a guy for putting up that kind of production. But when players started to return from injury, Erod got slid further down the lineup, and I could personally see his play get worse as that happened. For me I honestly think hes the kind of guy who needs to have a bigger role and ice time to match it, and he will produces for the team. I think if he plays on the third line for most of the year, he likely wont have that great a season unfortunately, but then that creates problems for either Lehkonen or Nichushkin. We will just have to see how it works out in colorado. Overall i don't know whats up with the lines cause helm is the 4C so
4. I couldnt tell you.
5. I hope Francouz plays solid early, i really want him have a shot at a regular starter job if he can be consistent. I could say honestly this is a tossup for me. I think they are likely a tandem until someone gets hot.

gotcha, didnt know he was injured. Yeah doesnt really matter I dont think in terms of whos playing on 1st,2nd or 3rd line. I think that either way their top 3 lines will all be stacked in one way or another so its just a matter of who gets more ice time. Like ROR can obviously produce but hes more of a shutdown roll. Senkos line will be a high scoring one but they can still play solid defense too. Man do I miss Perron on this team.

I think they will be better defensively personally, offensively is questionable for me too cause they need the kid line to step up again. I think they will be playing more balanced but overall wont change much from last year.

Opening Day
St. Louis is a team ive been thinking a lot about lately. i think -
Barbashev-Selke-Saad (Lock down line starts against other teams top lines)
Buch-Schenn-Vlad (first wave of offense)
Kyrou-Thomas-Toropchenko (second wave of high speed offense)
Im not sure about their fourth line, i dont know enough about any of the players other than acciari and logan brown so ill leave it blank. I do though think they have plenty offense, so it may be wise to go with a bruiser line since acciari plays that roll anyway and hes likely your 4C
Great job on d thats what id do. Niko and scott can alternate i think.
I think Kyrou and Thomas obviously deserve more ice time this season, which is why the lines i put together just have to be rolled constantly. if youre playing defensive line, offensive, offensive, defensive, and repeat, I think it will give them a much more stable game, which berube likes to play anyway.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Db1899</b></div><div>I agree with Tampa and Carolina. Toronto is hit or miss. Great offense , but an aging D core and below average goaltending could make things interesting. The NYR are mostly driven by players who are approaching the wrong side of the 30 coming off of career seasons. I don’t know who’s going to make up for Mika and Kreider regression. If Igor even regresses a little bit, they’re in trouble.</div></div>
Im not so sure on that. while a lot of of credit has gone to Kreider for his 50 goals, Im not so confident in his future success given how many he scored on the powerplay. However, I think Mika is set to only go higher the next few seasons. Hes really found his role on the team and with Trocheck behind him, i think hes going to step up even more this season. I agree with the Toronto take, i just meant as far as talent and offensive capabilities go, Toronto can put up 6 on any given night against almost any team. Islanders are lucky to score 4. But its all about the style of hockey you play and weve seen where it has gotten both of those teams the last few seasons.

Question for everyone
For me I think its a fair gamble. Jarry is great but what i am concerned about is his playoff ability. Desmith was great. I like them both but the only reason ive called it questionable is that i think the team theyve put together this year is very capable of another cup. the goaltending is just the weakest area in my opinion and if they have to play an offensive powerhouse like Colorado or Edmonton, are they going to be the two guys who can get in done for them. Will they be willing to bet on them getting it done or will they add to have more confidence.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Logan_Ollivier</b></div><div>It's hard to say for sure, but I think the teams that do struggle or have potential to struggle (Boston, Washington, Florida and possibly the Rangers) there are other teams likely to take a step forward (New Jersey if they are healthy, Ottawa if their defence surprises) will also push hard. In any case, the Islanders were a team that got pretty lucky with Trotz's system and got way better results than their underlying numbers said they should. A return to the medium and another year older won't make things work better. Could they make the playoffs? Maybe but it will be a wild card spot and only because Washington or Boston really struggle while they wait for their injured players to get healthy. The Islanders just aren't fast enough, or skilled enough to compete with the top teams in the east. Especially without the Trotz system</div></div>
yeah I think boston, washington and florida will all struggle early. but i think that teams who are expected to be better like columbus, ottawa, detroit and new jersey wont be as flaming hot as some are predicting. Im expecting a much much more balanced eastern conference this year with a lot of teams fighting late into the season. I completely agree tho. Islanders are no way in the class of being able to compete with Tampa, Carolina, Pittsburgh, Rangers or Toronto in terms of their ceiling of play. I think a wildcard is what theyll be fighting for as I have the rangers winning the division and carolina and pittsburgh at 2 and 3.

Hey man i wanna say thank you to you as well. The majority of my interactions on this site have been negative in my short tenure so far. Doesnt seem like a lot of people open to civil hockey talk. More along the lines of bashing everyones ideas.
Im not so optimistic and am not in agreement with a lot of these Leaf rationalizers. I think that this tandem could be disastrous behind their team who doesnt play defense first. Im past the point of trying to talk logic into Torontos mind because if they both dont bounce back in the manor the Dubas dreams of, maybe he will just say f it and roll with them, hoping their team can outscore their problems all the way to another first round exit.

Their collection 30 plus year old dead cap winger's is going to show their age. Especially now that Trotz and his only defence system are gone. I bet it's going to be a rough season.</div></div>
I disagree man I think theyre going to have a bounce back season. Yes while their team is the butt of all jokes involving age and overpayment, I really think last year was a fluke. Their roadtrip to start the season followed by their covid stretch had them falling apart. They didnt score enough last year, yes obviously. But I think everyone is quick to bash this team even tho theyre one season removed from the back to back success they had. They are definitely old but they have a lot of chemistry and heart. We will see what Lambert brings to the table. Sorokin is going to take another step this year I believe. I think Washington and the other bottom feeders in that conference are going to get off to slower than expected starts. While they have a tough schedule in 2022, I think that if they can come out at or above .500 they will be in good position for their much easier 2023 schedule. Im not dick riding saying theyll be back to the conf finals, but i think theyre definitely a team in the mix for the playoffs.

Would it suffice
Nah I think someone will offer a more enticing package. I also think this trade doesnt make sense for pittsburgh. They are excellent down the middle. I would think Zucker is clearly the one on the move if they do trade someone at the deadline. I think they should add a better middle 6 winger who can score and either said guy or Kapanen plays on the 2nd and 3rd line. I think theyre defense is great and they have the depth. They obviously have faith in their goaltending, but if that is an area where they struggle then maybe they add in that category. Doesnt make sense to add Toews just to play him on the third line and have either Carter or Toews play on the wing.

Islanders are unlikely to give up Varlamov if theyre in the playoff race. Unless they are given a return they cant refuse, and can add a backup in return via another trade, or a 3 way deal. they have no one to play behind Sorokin. deal doesnt work with them because im willing to bet Samsonov plays better out of the two and new york wont want to take Murray for Varlamov. Equation changes if the islanders bomb before the deadline which i 100% dont think will happen.
Im not familiar with any of the prospects in the other two deals other than robertson so i cant comment on those.

Well youve now put yourself over the cap next year when you need to sign bouchard, skinner, kaut, and drouin and mayfield. assuming you didnt buy their "high value" for just one season as rentals. No reason to trade Barrie. right handed OFD that can actually play defense are few and far between, especially at his discount. this team has no need for top 6 players and Drouin isnt even a top 6 forward on this team if you did add him. youre high if you think colorado takes that deal. girard deal is a fleece for ken holland but it doesnt matter since you got fleeced on all 3 other trades.
