What’s is wrong with Benning? He’s an over achieving third pairing defenceman, regular, and fancy stats. He’s payed as one too. I don’t see a problem.
Manning’s useless though. Definitely top 3 worst moves Chiarelli ever made.

I wouldn’t call either of them rookies. Johnsson played three seasons in the SHL before he came over. Was nice the Leafs had the forward depth to slow play him and let him get used to North America

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>They have the space to sign Marner, and this trade isn't good.
Yes McDavid is the best player in the world and is better than Matthews. How much better? A fair amount I am sure. Is Draisaitl better than Nylander? I am not sold that he is, I am not very high on Draisaitl, mainly because he has never been able to produce at nearly as high a rate away from McDavid. And comparing Rielly to Benning isn't worthwhile. One is a legit elite Defenceman and the other is barely an NHL player.
So this trade weakens TO and doesn't really help them in any way.</div></div>
Benning isn’ In the trade. Its B. Manning. Am I the only person seeing this?

It's really ambitious of Dubas to want to keep all 3 of them and still be a well-rounded team, and not just an offensive juggernaut.</div></div>
One could never fault them for getting Tavares. Was a lot of bad timing with contracts, the cap, and a management change for sure.
They’re gonna have to give to get, and they definitely gotta get some defence.

I agree, but they created this situation. The leafs should’ve re-upped as soon as they could. Other then Matthews wanting to wait, I think the wingers would have signed up early.
I was mad when the Oilers re-upped McDavid before locking down Draisaitl. That looks brilliant compared to Toronto spreading all these guys out over 3 years, and signing Tavares in the middle while knowing the cap was going up.

It’s too bad the Oilers don’t have the space for Zaitsev. I think playing with Sekera would help get him back on track. I know this trade is for LTIR, but Edmonton still can’t fit Nikita. Russell and Sekera’s NTC’s are a hindrance.

Holland has been out explaining the Oilers want an experienced NHL goaltender that can play 30-40 games, they aren’t to confident in Koskinen either lol. Sounds like Starrett won’t be getting a shot without injuries until 20-21.

See: Shane Starrett. The Oilers have 5 signed goaltenders. Adding another one that isn’t going to challenge for the #1 spot is probably a non starter.

Big free agent signing that no one saw coming to fill the 2C job-Big Canes trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MisstheWhalers</b></div><div>Yeah I feel the same about Laine, heard he's looking for a long term deal though don't know if there's any truth to it. A deal like this would be him deciding to take some security over possibly leaving some money on the table that could of been there but maybe not if he doesn't get it all together and the Jets kind of overpay him now given his game has holes in it but in the hopes his game rounds out, there's risks for both parties involved but there usually always is. I didn't want to do a bridge deal cause the convo would probably get bogged down in that rather then on the Connor trade or Duchene signing.. Lol
As for Duchene I've heard he's going to wherever he gets the most $$ and yeah Winnipeg isn't a likely landing spot for him but he'd fit well with Laine and Ehlers so paid him well with $$+term to entice him, highly unlikely but ya never know and since this is all hypothetical anyway that's the way I went.
I agree about the 23 man roster thing, teams could go lean if they wanted to and just rely on call ups when necessary. Like if a player is injured for say a week you can replace him with a callup and it doesn't effect the cap correct? Or in this scenario as I have it let's say Perreault got hurt and was out a week and they called up some guy from their farm team that makes $750K would that put them over the cap?</div></div>
It’s pretty tough to predict what players want and what they’ll get with the media, and the cap going up.
Can’t really use comparable players right now either, tax discrepancy and cap uncertainty.
Winnipeg like San Jose is good because they can get away with a 20 man roster most nights at home cause the AHL team is in the same place. Depending on how many, time of season, and what type of injury (short/long term) the levels of cap relief change. Typically teams on the road or after trade deadline will want to at least have an extra forward and defenseman on the roster. In a perfect world 2 million in cap space with a 20 man roster is good. There’s all kinds of emergency situation cap relief and loop holes though. It’s tough to understand it all.

I get it. I think Laine believes he’s a 10 mill + player. I would agree once he’s more consistent, and better defensively. I believe he’d be leaving money on the table if he takes a long term deal now. The Duchene deal I think would be more reasonable with that kind of term.
I didn’t like someone calling it down for a reason that isn’t true though. The 23 man roster B.S
