Setting the standard straight
Looks fair value for Miller. I doubt that gets you retention though. Miller at 4 mil next year is probably a top 5 contract in the NHL. Rangers could actually do this trade as a real rental, as in rent him for THIS year and then sell next year in the offseason/draft and get a 1st and a prospect back. Which I think might be in the Canucks best interest to just wait for next year.

The Pens Only Need - Who makes sense
I think fair value for Halak would be Desmith + 3rd. (Or less, TBH I don't know how good Desmith is).
With the Canucks back in the hunt I don't think it makes sense. Halak has been good for Vancouver in his limited starts. I think it's a bit of a crapshoot with goalies when they come to a new team/system. I don't think it's worth the risk for a late round pick.

I think that's a pretty good offer for Miller. Retaining this year doesn't hurt but next year may be a steep ask with bonuses and other cap woes.

Miller Time
Value looks fair for both sides in my opion. That said, I think Canucks could get pretty close to this package (first and a high end prospect, probably no second) next trade deadline so maybe that makes more sense.
I also have no clue if Bolduc is good or not, just that he was a high pick. If he's killing it then I understand why the Blues wouldn't want this.

Updated Sharks Prospect Pyramid
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rob32sjsharks</b></div><div>why is Tier 1 so sacred to hockey players? Eklund has a 98% expectation of being a full time NHLer and an 86% expectation of being an Elite NHL per his scouting report prior to the draft.
why should that not be tier 1? i honestly think 85% of the teams out there should have 1-2 Tier 1 prospects and it shouldn’t be saved for 1-2 players a Decade.
but yes if i went with Hockey on this and Tier 1 was as sacred as they make it Eklund is high tier 2 just like i mentioned in my description.
Tier 1 should be players who’s career arch has them as potential HOF and if Eklund reaches his expectations he could be!</div></div>
Sorry I wasn't very clear in my response. I'm mostly agreeing with you. I think Eklund is an excellent prospect and for the Sharks, he's in a tier of his own. What I was meaning to say is there are no prospects that we know for certain are going to turn out to be Kucherov, Point, Draisaitl and those players wouldn't be considered 'Tier 1' prospects when they were drafted as well. IMO Eklund has the potential to be the best player from that draft so I have no problem with you calling him the Tier 1 franchise prospect.

That being said I think he could be a good 1st line player if he pans out.</div></div>
Only McDavid and Mathews of those would be listed as 'Tier 1' until they panned out anyway though.

Completely Different
I love Marner as a player but his contract kills his value. I'm not sure I'd do Boeser straight up for Marner with that in mind (probably would though if the Canucks could make it work). If the Canucks are selling Miller and Boeser they would need picks and prospects back. Marner doesn't make them a better team now and with his cap don't see how they could improve in the future.
I don't think Arizona has a need for any of those players but maybe they could flip for other assets/picks. Think it's light on value for what others have been offering for Chych.
That said, I don't think the value on either of those trade is preposterous and that roster certainly looks improved from the current one!

Lol Kyrou obviously worth more. Miller is an unreal piece though. 1st + A prospect I think is fair. Robert Thomas = Miller? Blues likely don't do that for timeline reasons, but value seems close?

Kotkaniemi passing Miller in terms of point production is just speculation, but you sound like you are acting as if it's a guarantee which I don't understand
zackhendo doesn't understand where the hell you are coming from either with these claims. Neither of us are trying to change your opinion, but we aren't accepting it either</div></div>
Maybe Koktaniemi is better than I was giving him credit for. TBH I haven't watched him much since he left the Habs.
The fact that Caniac thinks Ethan Bear is a #1 borderline untouchable dman gives me my doubts though.
The Miller hate is just completely unjustifiable though. He's far and away been the Canucks best player this year and at least 2nd or third with Hughes and Petey for the last 3. Calling Miller a 50 point player is just plain wrong and he knows it...

Alternative dealing
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Bear is better than Skjei, and he's more useful than DeAngelo, seeing as DeAngelo is a very one dimensional defenseman.
Miller is a 28 year old that has a career PPG rate at C of 0.4... Unless the NHL elected to use an MLB style schedule, Miller ain't a 100 point player. He's only got more than 50 points once. Chill your bias here.
KK is 21, he's scoring at a 0.67 PPG rate as a center in Carolina. Yes, limited sample size, but he's also now being properly developed. Something he didn't get in Montreal. If you're going to continue to argue this, you're beyond all hope.</div></div>
Alright I'd take Skeji in the deal instead of Bear.
I don't have a clue where you are getting those Miller numbers from (his career PPG is 0.66 and over a PPG this year); but if you counted all the games he played at C I won't argue. I was making fun of you when I said he's a 100 point player.
KK could be a good player.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Rocket</b></div><div>Halak over koskinen is a marginal upgrade. I doubt a swap of back up goalies is the make or break trade to desperate Edmonton from Vancouver.
More importantly, the $1.5 million is significant. Canucks have basically 0 bad money coming off the books this season, and Boeser is due a raise (his QO is 1.625 million more than his current cap hit). The buyout penalties for holtby and Virtanen will go up to a combined 2.4 million (currently 0.55 million). As well, both Hoglander and Podkolzin are on track to hit 1 schedule A bonus each, which is a total 0.425 million in cap hit next year if this continues.</div></div>
The bonus only carries over to next year if it's over the cap. Kosk with retention makes what Halak makes with bonuses, so it's a moot point.

Would Colorado consider trading newhook
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>coga16</b></div><div>avs don't need a bonafide tope line player who can play C. Miller is good but hes going to be 30 years old when hes contract is done and avs cant extend him. Why would the Avs trade newhook for a guy who would be probably the 6th most best player on the roster behind the top line and Makar Toews.
If avs were ever to move newhook it would be for a player that the team has long term control over bc that is what Newhook is for the Avs, a dynamic player who is cost controlled and will be on the avs for quite a long time during the avs cup window, Unless a team comes calling for that, avs arent moving newhook for what is essentially pending UFA rentals</div></div>
Right, why would you want to add more skill in a cup contention window. Maybe because this core has never exited the second round?
Fine if you don't want to trade Newhook - but laughing like Miller isn't worth close to as much is wild. Miller would lead the Avs in points (Rant has better rate), kills penalties and is a force at driving play.
