That was my thought process yea. For some reason I thought Raymond was a C until I looked at it further.

Ok it would appear we need to resign Barrie
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Zmach</b></div><div>That's the thing there is only room for 1 developing player on right side.</div></div>
This is the problem. Bear and Bouchard will both be excellent defensemen. But EDM isn't in a position where they can afford to go through growing pains with 2 of their 3 RS Dmen. Bouchard has the higher ceiling and pedigree. And Larsson has been very reliable back there and won't break the bank to re sign. So no brainer there. Where does Bear fit? Not on the top pair. And if they go into next season relying on Bear to play top pairing minutes, that's a massive risk they can't really afford.

I don’t see how that won’t deflate the group. It’s irresponsible considering the competitive state the team is suppose to be in and should be in.</div></div>
It's the same argument for any UFA. If Barrie is getting offers of 6M in UFA, the Oilers can't match that. It's not about sending a message to the team that they aren't willing to retain players. It's about building a team with players who's production and play fit the price you pay for them. Same thing with Nuge. If the Kraken go and offer 7.5 x 7 years, the Oilers can't, and shouldn't match that.

BEAR IS STRUGGLING
The Oilers are in a dilemma this offseason. On the right side, I don't think Barrie is a fit long term. Unless he's signing for something like 3x4.75 I don't see how Edmonton can afford to bring him back. The problem is, who is going to play top pair right side next year? You can't bet the house on Ethan Bear at this point, Bouchard is a rookie, and Larsson is best on the 2nd pair with Lagesson, so they either have to sign Barrie to a less than great contract or go I to next season with a lot of uncertainty on the right side.

I did this assuming he would be exempt since Edmonton could argue his injury is potentially career ending. It's likely Klefbom misses all of next season.

Oilers 21 Off Season
I used to feel the same about a Neal buyout, but I am slowly starting to change my view on it.. it's not really dead cap for the first 2 years since they will be saving almost 4M for those 2 years. And then 1.9 for 2 years after. 1.9 isn't terrible.. if the buyout is the difference in the Oilers making space for a top 6 fwd, top D or top G this offseason, then I think its worth it. McDavid and Drai have 4 and 5 years respectively after this season. It's time to start going for it a bit.

He's not the goalie for the future anyway. They're going to keep him for the last year and sign a guy for around 3 M on a short term deal. Konovalov is a couple years away I think. So a UFA on a 3 year deal or so makes sense.

If this is what you're giving to get rid of Neal... Yikes is all I have to say. MAF is a decent goalie but he makes 7 freakin mil. Why not just buy out Neal and take the 4m in savings?

I disagree with this. Yea Larsson has had some tough moments this year but it's key for the Oilers success that he plays well and with Lagesson he has improved quite a bit. If that pair can become a dependent shutdown pair on on most nights, thats way more valuable than getting a 3rd round pick back or whatever the return would be.
Plus depth is key this season. If there's an injury on the right side, then you are more able to handle it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oilsince95</b></div><div>I really hadn't thought of that option yet, But I think it would be a great option. Barrie-Nurse can have a couple of chaotic moments each game when they both try to do too much at the same time, but overall quite effective, at least while Nurse is playing so we'll. If Bear can handle the left side, I agree he may complement Bouch well. And absolutely don't want to take Laggs and Larsson apart, they shut everything down so we'll.</div></div>
The other option is they could go 11 and 7 and rotate the D in a way that Bear could work his way back slowly.

If they but out Neal its almost 4M in savings the next 2 years. So youre basically giving up a 1st and Samorukov to save 1.9 M for the 23/24 and 24/25. I dont think its worth it.

Thats a ton to give up just to move Neal... Im sure they could retain 2M in a trade and not have to give up Sammy. Id be okay with moving the 1st but not the 1st PLUS a guy like Samorukov.

If they get an offer like that then yea they'd move him. But it's almost a guarantee they keep him just for depth reasons and the fact he's the only RHD on Edmonton who plays a stay at home style.

I don't think the Oilers would be. They don't have their 2nd and 3rd this year. So I can't see them moving it for a rental. They're better off trading their 1st as part of a deal in the summer for a player under contract or to move a contract like Neal.

What is Driedger Worth
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rooney</b></div><div>I was having trouble nailing down a value for Driedger as well, his numbers have been excellent the past 2 seasons but he only has 20 NHL games played...so I went way lower at $1.5 per year over 2 years. I could see this go as high as $2.5 depending on how the rest of the season plays out for him.</div></div>
It really depends which goalies make it to UFA. Cbj and Arizona may deal a goalie... So there are quite a few options which would maybe limit Driedgers value. Hard to say though. But I would be comfortable with something around 3-3.5 on a short term deal for him. Unless his numbers fall off a cliff.

Just curious about Dreidger, I just stumbled upon his number over the last 3 years which are actually pretty great.. what's the story on him? Come out of no where? Is he highly regarded? I feel like he won't stay in Florida just because of the goalie log jam them coming up (Bob, Knight, Levi ).
What would he be asking for in UFA. I like the Oilers would take a long look at him. Thanks
