Two More Hoorays then its Caps Friendly
No, we're not trading Tristan Luneau for that package, never mind the pick. We think that Luneau has at least the upside of Timothy Liljegren, and we're willing to wait and see. It's not as if we're going anywhere next season, and Luneau is nearly 5 years younger.

It's missing a high 2nd it's so far off in value.</div></div>
The pick chart I use says #18 = 248.82 plus #26 = 173.80 totals 422.62 and #7 = 419.42
But I'm very suspicious of supposed values when we're talking about big moves (over 8 places), especially when we have a large difference between the better of two picks and the target pick. I'm a bigger believer that #14 + #32 = #7.

Josh Anderson has negative trade value, and apparently you haven't heard about Dillon Dube. Anaheim doesn't need or want a LhD at any price and won't take less than a top-16 pick and prime prospect for Trevor Zegras, who isn't on the market no matter how much Montreal guys keep pining about him.

The pick swap is right on value but Ottawa is in a quality, not quantity, mode so they reject. Gallagher and Price have no trade value whatsoever. Eric Tulsky and Kyle Davidson laugh you off the phone and then tell beat reporters about those offers, and Pat Verbeek charters a plane just so he can come to Montreal and pee on your shoes.

Lindstrom has 174 NHL games under his belt, Vaakanainen 136 and LaCombe, who appears to have the highest ceiling of the three, 73. They're all more than ready.

Welcome to CapFriendly! Sometimes, it's not too friendly.
Anaheim doesn't have Zegras on the market but if he were, the Ducks wouldn't accept the 26th overall pick in this year's draft as the key asset for him.

In my last Toronto ACGM I had the Maple Leafs signing him for $3.25 x 4, so this is a good deal for both player and team.

Leafs can keep Marner and afford a better D The options are there
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hockeynutter</b></div><div>I did understand your point. I was explaining my reasoning. The risk remains the same, if Liljegren has a huge year that pay increase I am thinking about becomes huge. To your point, next year is more palatable with the Tavares deal to either be gone or signed much less.</div></div>
The risk <strong>doesn't</strong> remain the same. Next summer you still have control over Liljegren's contract even if he has arbitration rights and has a big year. And his contract demand is automatically going to be bigger in 2026 after he's had a season as McCabe's replacement no matter what his performance is in the two seasons at issue.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hockeynutter</b></div><div>As for the 7th defenseman. That would depend on what we can negotiate. If we are able to great if not, Timmins has a good chance to clear and we can always sign a haydn Fleury etc... to send down similar as we did to Benoit for depth.
Also Reaves can be sent down which clears 1.1 million on salary.</div></div>
I think that you missed my point -- entirely. It's not a question of negotiation: with less than $600k in cap space, you don't have the room to sign a Haydn Fleury or any other $775k minimum-contract filler. And the glib shrug about sending Reaves down doesn't solve the problem of what to do when you want to bring him back up.
There's a reason why GMs make rosters self-sufficient: flexibility. Constructing a roster short-term which requires additional balancing actions when you want to take a perfectly normal and even predictable adjustment later is poor asset management.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hockeynutter</b></div><div>The reason for two years is simple. Current projections show that the cap should go to about 95-97 million in 2 years. For Liljegren we can then look at a 2.5 million increase by then!</div></div>
I think that you missed my point -- entirely. It's not a question of money. Give Liljegren a two-year deal and in 2026 you may not be looking at how much to pay him but the back of his sweater.

Careful -- I believe that two-year contract carries Liljegren straight to free agency.
Speaking of whom, giving him $2.4 million for one season would allow you to carry a 7th defenseman who isn't waivers-exempt.

Your premise is incorrect. Zegras is projected to be a LW next season and is one of the five core forwards we expect to have for the balance of this decade (all are under team control past 2029-2030): Gauthier at LW, Carlsson and McTavish at C and Terry at RW. Trading Zegras for Konecny is simply exchanging one core forward for another; that doesn't advance the team. And with his face-off and defensive deficiencies, I don't think that you or Tortorella would like Zegras at C.

No, we're not trading Trevor Zegras for Patrik Laine. As <a href="/users/Subbanator7667" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Subbanator7667</a> says, we might add Laine in return for the Boston second, but I doubt that we would be willing to wager more on the risky Laine. And as <a href="/users/Friendly_Cannon" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Friendly_Cannon</a> accurately says, Zegras is more suited for playing wing and I think that's where he's going this season. (Zegras and Caufield at LW, Carlsson and McTavish at C, and Terry at RW.)

You failed to re-sign our RFAs, particularly the three defensemen that make Xhekaj utterly redundant, unnecessary and therefore of little value.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ggha777</b></div><div>Honestly, I’d do that for Zegras. We already have Guhle who can play top 4, and Hutson with the potential to be a top 4 paring guy, and then struble or Harris who can be the bottom paring D. I’m not as high on Xhekaj like other Habs fans are, so I wouldn’t mind it</div></div>
And honestly, I'd trade Jackson LaCombe and the equivalent draft picks for Cole Caufield.

Sorry, my bad. I assumed that it was the Boston pick and completely missed the fact that it is the tenth overall selection. Nevertheless, I don't think that the pick plus spare parts gets Zegras with 50% retention. Even if Zegras is on the market, and I don't think that he is, we'd want something like the pick plus either Poitras or Lysell. As is, that's an offer of quantity, not quality (except for the pick, of course).

Anaheim isn't trading Radko Gudas, who right now is the only NHL-qualified RhD we have under contract.
By the way, pick #29 in this year's draft isn't all that exciting for a team that already owns pick #31/#32 as well as pick #35.

I can't see Boston trading Carlo.
From the Anaheim PoV, since coming into the League, Zegras has outproduced all but 4 Boston players, and three of those Bruins are Hall of Famers. There are some subtle indications that over those 5 seasons, Boston was a better team than Anaheim. Nevertheless, it is clear that a major part of the Boston fanbase simply doesn't understand him, so we wouldn't send him someplace where he isn't appreciated or even wanted.
