Why are Wilson trades to the Leafs back on this site....I thought that was just a last summer thing...
Wilson signed a long-term contract extension and the Caps have no interest in trading him, for better or for worse. Can Leafs fans find another player to be obsessed with?

I was just moving out Garlands cap, for a RHD with similar cap.
I thought Jensen was a half decent D, but I’m clearly very wrong lol.
Maybe I should watch the Caps next year. 😂</div></div>
Caps fan here - Jensen is a fine, not flashy defensive defenseman. he will NOT put up points/offensive production. Two years ago, he was the Caps best defender, very reliable imo.
This past year was a little rough. Maybe a new coaching staff / new system wasn't good for him...? Not sure what happened, but this past year was pretty rough. I'd think he would generate a 3rd (value wise) so yeah, for Garland, you could get more.

NEED OUTSIDERS PERSPECTIVE
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SNipeSHowInc</b></div><div>These are 2 seperate things though. Trading Marner for Leonard straight up isn’t a fair trade. Getting cap space is a bi-product of the move. The trade doesn’t read Mitch Marner for Leonard and 2 UFAs. I get what you’re saying and I agree spreading that 11 million over 2 players makes sense for a winning team. But that has absolutely no effect on Marners value.</div></div>
I am not advocating for a Leonard -> Marner trade. Just want to be clear. But...
Getting cap space is a bi-product of the move and also factors into the value of the trade - just look at all cap dumps over the years...are they fair on paper? No, but teams do it because it generates more cap space, which has so much value, especially in today's NHL.
Just like Marner's value - his value on paper (pure production) is great and should generate a MASSIVE return...but why will he not return the world and then some (like Leafs fans expect) - because he has 11m cap hit and is a rental...cap space has value that factors into every trade.

He showed some flashes of brilliance this year and I think if you are patient with him, you'll have a 25 goal scorer who can play both ends of the ice and drive possession.
Agree that Strome is staying. If it was Jensen, Lindgren, Cristall, and a first, I would be fine with the trade value wise, but am very concerned about the goalie situation going into the season if they don't do something to address it. Kuemper-Stevenson tandem is worrisome.</div></div>
Yeah I agree - I have no idea how you would fix that either...
Almost like Lindgren is "untouchable" (that word is thrown out there a lot and is rarely true, which is probably the case here, but most likely it would take an incredible offer to trade him)...

Would be fine with a 1st and Cristall. Another idea owuld be McM and some other pick (2nd? Idk).

Based on his first full NHL season, at 23 years old, Protas is a solid two-way forward and he proved that this year, especially with his defensive ability. And I never said anything about him being "special" or "starts a conversation as the main piece for a top 6 forward". All I said is that he is definitely not a 13th/14th forward lol
You should get your facts straight about other team's players before giving an opinion. To say he has no value is just wrong.</div></div>

So Adam Lowry (31 years old, 35 points this year on a far better team surrounded by far better players, 36 points career best) is a dime a dozen plug at this point...easily found, extremely replaceable, basically no value?
You can't just look at point production to tell if a guy is good or not...there are many other factors LOL

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>A career high of 29 points, makes him a 4th liner at best. 13/14th forward isn't a stretch on a good team.
However, you want to look at it his value is extremely low.</div></div>
You obviously don't know his game at all. While point production is low (first full year as a NHLer), he is only 23 and plays a fantastic two-way game. He is very defensively responsible, has a huge frame (6'6), and is pretty fast for his size. He is a perfect 3rd line winger.
It's okay to not know this, but you shouldn't throw out crazy statements without any research/knowledge, buddy.

First off - you can't say a player is not good and then try to convince others that he would be a top 6 player...
Second - Protas is definitely not a 13th/14th forward haha seems like you don't watch the Caps very often (understandably if you aren't a Caps fan)...but I would do your research before you say an absurd comment like that...

Caps don't do either of these trades (thanksfully).
Regarding McM - I also expect a bridge similar to this (maybe a hot take, but I think Protas's contract was slightly high for his play/production).
Regarding McM being 2C - granted, I have not been a big fan of McM (compared to other Caps fans), but I do not see him as a true 2C going into next year. I see Strome as a solid 2C and then McM as a pretty good 3C (same with Lappy). I think the Caps have a major gap at the center position so would hope that they prioritize getting a true 1/2C (if they are trying to compete).

While I would love these trades from a Caps perspective, I think all 3 are light...think the Caps would need to add for all 3 trades. "Closest" one is the Canes trade and that's not really close...
