Hawks are stacked at LHD. Either they take a RHD (Levshunov) or forward (demidov/lindstrom).

Marner to Chicago
Hawks laugh and hang up the phone...they are rebuilding, 1 year of Marner does nothing for them unless they plan to retain 50% and trade him before the TDL and good luck getting a better return than Toronto is in your idea of a trade

He's the new version of Toews but with a worse cap hit; he's got negative value on the open market, and to your point, he won't waive so none of this matters

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_92</b></div><div>Everyone judges a guy purely on his offensive production like points are the only thing that matters in contracts.
Tavares is a leader on and off the ice professionally. He is elite in the faceoff circle. He is a marketable star that sells tickets. He’s still tough to handle down low on the cycle and protects the puck very well. He’s been a captain everywhere he plays.
Those are things that don’t show up on a scoresheet that justify his value. Is he worth the $11m at this point? You could argue he’s not. But he’s not THAT much less than it that justifies having to move a 1st round pick to move his cap hit.
All that aside, Tavares is not waiving. He has no reason to and honestly it’s a bit disrespectful of the team to even consider it.
The parts of the core that are available or will be asked to waive their NMC are Marner and Rielly. That’s it.</div></div>
"You can argue he's not worth $11M"???? Objective fact: He's not worth anywhere near $11M, he's worth $6M...maybe $8M on his best day

The most likely scenario is that the leafs don’t trade their captain away and he returns. If Tavares was completely useless and didn’t produce then sure trade away a valuable asset, but it’s only one year, and I think they learned from their Marleau mistake</div></div>
A down year on a stacked team and getting 1 year older? 65 points is not $2m to $3 too much against the cap, try like $5M too much. If you think he's going to improve with ago on a bad team, I've got oceanfront property to sell you in Arizona

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>there's a pretty wide gulf between getting a fantastic return for him and having to give up a 1st to move him. A Tavares trade would be somewhere in the middle and there would probably be a not great contract returning to balance it out, say (not saying anyone does this, just using the contract vs on ice value as an example) the Foligno contract for Chicago.</div></div>
It's a late 1st and Foligno was nowhere near the negative cap value. He has roughly a negative cap value of $5M and history says a late 1st isn't far off as the cost to dump $5M of cap; maybe a late 2nd.

LMAO, the Hawks don't even respond to that. Think about this for a rebuilding team; Marner vs. Ivan Demidov....100% of rebuilding teams would take Demidov 1 for 1 and THAT'S considering Marner came with an extension, and you won't the Hawks to include a 2nd and Jones as well while taking on a cap dump and waiver wire player?

LMAO yes you do. Nobody is taking on JT at a $11M cap hit for 65 points....his cap hit is WAY inflated for what he provides. If he was $5M to $7M he's moveable without paying, but at $4M to $6M over market value, 1000% Toronto has to pay to move him and only a very few teams can fit $11M in cap space.

and that marner trade is pretty bad too</div></div>
It will cost to move his $11M cap hit, and it's not going to be much cheaper. 65 points doesn't justify a $11M cap hit and very few teams have that kind of cap space

The Hawks are definitely going to have to sign a couple big name free agents in the next 2 years.

Same thing was said about many d-men in the AHL at 23 or limited time in the NHL at 23. Forsling? Keith? Again, Crevier is going to be a very solid 3rd liner and Hawks aren't trading him for the pens garbage here; a cap dump and a guy Pool party who played 22 games this season with a whooping 4 points...he's a dman right? oh wait...he's not! :laugh

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Play_Party_Hard</b></div><div>Yeah, I know they have a good pool of prospects but come on...</div></div>
Don't use your lack of ignorance around Crevier to respond to those that are educated around the player in fairness. Crevier is a very solid big body dman. He was brought up when Murphy was injured and looked like he belonged, but was playing a significant shutdown roll with the AHL team who was working towards the playoffs. The Hawks are in the belly of rebuild and purposely not rushing their dman. Crevier is going to be a solid heavy hitting 3rd liner and fills a gap on the right side the Hawks don't have in their prospect system.

So you send two rentals (one is a cap dump) for a good prospect to a rebuilding team and you think that works for Chicago? Come on

Marner is going to crumble under Berube! Maybe Matthews and Nylander as well since they are more concerned with their custom suits...let the chief bring the pain to the Leafs!

If the Hawks think they can retain 50% at the TDL and get more for Marner than they do it, however even at 50% of his cap hit, this trade is a big risk with giving up a 1st, 2nd, Kurashev who's very solid and Dach a pretty good prospect....Hawks likely pass
