Good point, and as good as Eichel is, Suzuki+Tuch is probably better

The worst part about it is they flipped him and NICK SUZUKI (!!!) for Patches who was eventually flipped for nothing lol. Yes they won the cup so who cares but that’s teeeeeeerrible asset management

2023-2024 NHL Discussion Thread #6: The Quest for Lord Stanley's Cup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CantStopWontStop</b></div><div>I think you’ll be be pleasantly surprised.
IMO he’s a huge players coach.
He does adjust opportunity based on effort, but I never saw him like pick on somebody, repeatedly punish anybody. Kyrou was the most “in his doghouse” which meant his icetime went down for a game. Then you’d see a social media post where he’s working with Kyrou at practice, and that was it.
I think the main benefit of him as a coach is that he keeps it very simple. Offense and defense can be advanced and complex - that’s on those coaches - but from the team perspective he seems to be able to compress things down to simple terms. Probably a major benefit of being an ex player.
There were great times while he was the head coach and there were awful times, and in both extremes, and the middle, he was very chill, very direct and simple. He’s an easy guy to root for and it’s seemed players really responded to him. I mean we won a cup so it did happen at least for some amount of time.</div></div>
Glad to hear that, more convinced than before he was a good hire. Still hope they make a big move with one of the players though

Berube to Toronto?!?!
I did call it lol. I’m happy with that hire, I think he’s a great fit for the leafs. My only concern is that the team is going to think he’s too harsh or something and want to quit on him. But at this point I hope they’re beyond that

That’s what I’m hoping, even better if you can trade him with his full cap hit (though he’s gonna be less valuable then)

And yes,he took more responsibility of the failures of this team than the players did. That doesn't sit right with me because what about when the next coach takes over?
When will it be on the players?</div></div>
Agreed there has to be accountability with the players. That why they need to trade Marner

Berube to Toronto just feels obvious to me. Kind of like Treliving last year. It’s not a lock but I’d be a little surprised to see them go in any other direction based on how many boxes he checks off

Yah for sure, I really liked how he took responsibility for the loss. He didn’t have to do that and it’s more than any of his star players did. All the best Sheldon, good luck in Pittsburg or wherever you end up

Hey <a href="/users/Random2152" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Random2152</a>
I was watching an OhNyquist video (for anyone unfamiliar he’s a hockey YouTuber with like 75k subscribers) where he reacted to capfriendly ACGM or trade machine trades and your suggestion of Marner for Ekblad and Knight came up lol. For anyone interested to see his take on it the link is <a href="https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zIJFkDNR0AE" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">here</a>

Take a look at a few cities and decide where you want to go. But its not here anymore. Doesn't matter if you are a local boy, god complexes are for somewhere else.</div></div>
Another thing to add, it’s not like it just slipped out. If you watch the interview you can see he says “here in Toronto… (he paused and tried to think of the right word), we get treated, well, like Gods”. This wasn’t a misspeak or it just slipping out. He knew exactly what he was saying. And that makes it 10 times worse

Obviously, fire entire coaching staff. Since Tavares’ and Marner’s contracts end next year, they have 1 year to prove it was the coaching that was the problem. If the Leafs follow this plan and go on a run, that’s great. If not, their contracts are off the books.
If you don’t like this idea, fair enough, but explain why you think it wouldn’t work.</div></div>
If it truly is going to be the last year for Marner and Tavares, fine. I just know if they’re kept around they’re probably going to get resigned, which would be a horrible idea
