Next year
as for turtlemountain, I understand, but in the end this is just a what if they do and the justification is that Colorado won't be able to play with 2 lines next year if they don't do some overhauling to get able bodies in their lineup. They literally have 12 contracts signed, and just 9.7M$ to add 10-11 more guys. Unless you want 30-39 year old guys at the end of their careers or guys that are completely off their rockers unable to keep decent stats (I'm not talking just point here, there are other stats that make a player than points) then yes, they'll sign 11 guy at 800K$ but will have 3/4 of a team that are unable to win.
As far being just three depth pieces, well.. Like I say in the explanation AVS play out to get depth players as they need room for Mittelstadt, They'll also need to move one of their defensemen as Toews contract kicks in... Do you guys actually think that AVS have cap space to keep MacKinnon, Rantanen, Mittelstadt, Makar, Girard, Manson, Toews, and Georgiev thinking that other teams will call them and say "yeah I'll help you out, I'll take any contract you need and give you very good value back! That's because in this league, we all help each in the love, help and respect triangle we sow!"..
LMAO! VGK had to give players away for nothing to get some space back.
If Colorado wants space, they'll need to provide and even pay.
By the way, funniest thing I read was " COL gives up the best player and best pick in the trade" from the other guy... Best pick of the trade.. They have a late pick and anyone who knows anything about hockey know that picks 25 to 50 can be a toss up depending on your needs. Right now, depth players is what AVS will need if they are to go at it again next year and years after that. Getting 3 picks for one that late isn't bad, heck replace my 2025 3rd round pick (VAN) with the 2025 2nd round pick (PIT) and it would still be viable for the HABS and provide assets for AVS.

Can't disagree with this.
They'll ask for more since they know who the HABS will be targeting and the value on that. Personally, if I'm Hugues, I stay put also. Lindstrom, Eiserman and Iginla could be worth it without sacrificing extra picks or players. Demidov is for sure something, but is it really what they need? I think if Lindstrom is still there, it's the choice to go for (unless they know something we don't about his injury or overall character). Bigger guy, weight, and good hands.

Putting numbers on position for cap hit
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JTrades</b></div><div>I have often thought for years that teams need to have a cap hit for players based on their position in the lineup. Say if a player is on a ELC, then you would be getting great value and have extra money to spend on that line. I know lines change but normally not drastically.</div></div>
Exactly why I did this. As a Habs fan, when you see Gally and Anderson's contracts, you think they should be on the 2nd line producing.. But hell.. Bergevin screwed those amazingly. Everyone knew Gally was a core HABS player, but not at that price knowing his best days were behind him. Should've just given him a 2 year at 7.5M$ and this way you know he'll be there but if doesn't meet expectations, he can be extended for a very low salary or let go knowing you paid him for those last 4 years he gave you everything. They overpaid by 4 years with that 6 year deal.
If you find a GM that can balance his core player and replace those that are 3rd and 4th liners with lower contracts but give you more defensive style plays, then you have more money up front that you can attract actual top 3 players, then top 2 defense, and still get a good goaler. Your second line can be filled with hybrid grit/scorers/defenders.
Of course some players you can move up and down, such has a 1st overall pick like Bedard, his first three years he'll cost you nothing, so if you invest for 3 years in a bigger player, then you might look into paying a top winger and extra million to ensure he comes over, but still the balancing act is not easy for these GMs.

WE NEED DEMIDOV
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RobbStark003</b></div><div>Chicago could move to 5th if they want a defenseman and depending on the style of play that defenseman is. There are 6 defenseman ranked very high, not much separating them, and all very different from eachother. Not saying they will/would, just saying the argument is there.</div></div>
But you want someone who's the best of them. With Bedard on their roster, they'll want to build front to back with top players and hopefully not do an Oilers/Toronto build where they got the best players available and not the ones they need. It's just my line of thinking and IM not saying you're wrong or anything like that, just sayin at their level right now, they need someone who'll be their top Dman for 10 years once the kid starts being comfortable in the NHL. Levshunov or Silayev are better than the rest even if there are quality Dmen later.
I wouldn't risk that if I was in charge of an NHL franchise who's got a generational player like EDM/TOR did by overlooking needs vs draft ranking.

WE NEED DEMIDOV
As far as Montreal moving up, I could see them wanting to do it, unfortunately I also see Chicago not needing to move down and wanting Demidov for themselves even if they should go for a big Defenseman. I think the risk for them to move down to 5th is higher than staying put, so while the trade is a high value, I'd be surprised to see it. Levshunov or Silayev should be their target but moving down could cost them these players. THe only spot I would see them moving down is 4th at max to either get Demidov, Levshunov or Silayev (this is if Sharks don't pull a huge surprise and don't take Celibrini).
Vegas trade would be good for VGK to reduce their Cap hit. Knights fans will be against this.. But it's a fair trade.
Philly, don't see them moving Farabee, but given the cap space, if they can't move others Brière will move someone out.. Farabee could be a target for some teams.

realistic 2024-25 MTL
I don't see your most of your trades trades happening, not because they are bad, just context.
The first with Calgary for instance, Hugues wants to move up, not down. They need another solid top 6 guy so the view there id to pick either Lindstrom, Eiserman or Demidov if he's still available.
Necas trade depending on those that are either Habs or Hurricanes fans will tell you it's an overpay or garbage trade as usual. On the realistic sense, I don't see Carolina trading Necas. They'll have 27M$ to spare and most likely will keep him on board.
Orlov to Philly, Unless Brière can trade a few players during this offseason they are strapped for cap space. They have a projected cap space of 500K$ with 19 signed players. Brière needs to do some magic tricks. If there is movement on their side with the Habs, I would see someone like Barron going there for something or if Philly want to liberate cap space either Johansen (If he can play and is injury isn't problematic which I doubt it is), or Laughton which could be a potential player Habs would want until Lindstom (if they take him 5th overall) is ready for the NHL.
I doubt he'll look to move Konecny since he's their big player. THe good about Philly is that unlike Leafs and other teams out there strapped at the max space, they have little NMC players on their team so he can move most of the team if he wants to.
Armia and Barron, as I said for Barron being potentially a good fit for Philly or elsewhere, these would be most likely trades that make sens for a third, or depending on Armia's play a 2nd for a team going for it at TDL IF Armia is playing well.

I'm thinking either he has no clue Kulak once played for the HABS and they traded him out, or he's got in mind the Petry situation where the HABS have a team ready to flip him to, but it would need to be for something since they give up a second pick, which means a considerable return for a 1st round or established forward player that can help the team now.

HABS already tried Kulak. Don't see them take him back unless it's for a flip like they did for Petry.
But even then, they would not give up a 2nd round pick unless they are sure to get a 1st mid-range like in between 10th and 19th pick of the 2024 or 2025 draft for Kulak and something else.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>The only hole the Hawks have on defense is a legit top line RHD guy. The LHD side is locked and loaded and on the right they have a very solid top 4 prospect in Rinzel. So regarding defense, it's basically Levshunov or bust early in the first round. That said, they are likely more concerned with getting Bedard help up front to maximize his potential. They are weak at RW in terms of young players or prospects, and frankly, notably weaker in the top 6 compared with defense overall. Nazar, Moore, Bedard, Reichel, Kurashev appear to be their only shots at top 6 in terms of young players/prospects at this point. Not every player will make the top and there may be some outliers that aren't mentioned that over-exceed their expectations but all are lefties except Nazar who's a natural center, so RW is a big problem and bigger I would argue than RHD.</div></div>
Guys.. can't you read.. I said let's see WHY this would happen.. Not saying that it will or it makes sense at this point for it to go through.. Personally I don't think CHI will pass on a second overall pick, Just saying IF IT WERE TO HAPPEN, why would it..

He won't for NYI, and I do indicates that, but I guess you didn't read that. He's at the end of his career, read the description about him, if there is one player that can be talked into waiving it's him at this point. Marner would most likely pull a Tavares and not waive and move to UFA if he's really pissed off, but given Tavares' age and time plus criticism about his no-show as a Captain and that he fails again and again, it's time for him to move on and let Matthews have a go at it.

If they want to flip Gaudreau in two years form now, it's very unlikely that they'll get anything for him. That trade isn't even level for this year. Habs would not need him, and in today's market may give back a 6th at the very best for him now.
MIN would be better to just buy him out at that stage. I unfortunately don't see him getting better in the upcoming years unfortunately.

Most likely the Habs would pass on this. Harris could be moved for the 2nd pick, but you can remove everything else from that trade.
You have to think like Dubas' trade strategies from the past, and his line of thinking. So he ain't gonna trade for a defensive defenseman, he'll want someone who can put up point be be atrocious in the plus minuses and command a 9M$ or more salary.
Only reason Karlsson's stats were not bad this year is that I'm sure Letang, Crosby and Malkin told him that if he put up 100 pts but had worse than a -5 they'd beat him up with his own sticks. I think you can see Letang telling him "STAY BEHIIND OR I'LL BEAT YOU!" at some point 90% of the games they played this year... LMAO!

I mean.. Come on.. They can literally bury Anderson to the AHL for the remainder of his contract and still have enough money to make 4 NHL team payrolls.
That would make absolute zero sense. Especially since all eyes know they are trying to move up in the draft not go down it. They would most likely trade WIN's pick and a player to move up. The 5th is pretty much sealed in unless an actual trade for something worth it comes along.

I'm not going to criticize the trade itself, but look at it and wonder why.
I'm thinking that this would go through only if CHI want a defenseman and accept to pass on another forward, even if it's Demidov. They may want to increase their blue line skills in order to set Bedard's future team and ensure a better set of defensive players, hence pick one of the many that will still be there at 5th. On that note, they may comeback and ask for Barron, Harris, Kovacevic, Struble OR Mailloux to be added to the deal, but they would remove one of the WIN or CGY picks to replace it with one of these players. Also, depending on which player it is, HABS may remove one of those first, but provide a 2nd or 3rd instead.

End 2025 MTL
If you want SJS to take on Anderson, at this point his value is low. The compensation is Barron, but Anderson bring it down. So I think SJS may take the chance on him, but for a 3rd or 4th pick in that trade vs the 2025 2nd round pick (PIT). So we'd pay at the very least one round increase to move him out.
If you remove Anderson, SJS may think about the VGK 1st for Barron and either the 2025 2nd round pick (PIT), or if we're lucky, the 2025 3rd round pick (NJD).

Trading John Tavares for Josh Anderson because Arpon Basu said so
Basu... I check the clips form his podcast with Godin, and all he does is cut off Godin or stands 2 inches from his laptop camera and says ridiculous things.
First off Tavares would never agree to lift his NMC since his dream is to win with Toronto; so if they have any chance at all to go into the series, he'll stay on. If they look like they won't make it into the series, he may lift it to go to a team in order to have that chance, but only at TDL.
Second, if Treliving doesn't want to keep him in TOR after next year and Tavares doesn't want to lift his NMC, then he'll let him expire. If he wants to keep him here, Tavares may accept a substantial salary drop to have one more chance at it in Toronto.
Third the only way MTL gets rid of Anderson is by a buy-out if he's still bad next year, or trade him to a team for another contract that may be longer but where a team are unable to keep the player plus sign some RFA they would like to keep long term..
Basu.. ish..
