Thread: Next year
as for turtlemountain, I understand, but in the end this is just a what if they do and the justification is that Colorado won't be able to play with 2 lines next year if they don't do some overhauling to get able bodies in their lineup. They literally have 12 contracts signed, and just 9.7M$ to add 10-11 more guys. Unless you want 30-39 year old guys at the end of their careers or guys that are completely off their rockers unable to keep decent stats (I'm not talking just point here, there are other stats that make a player than points) then yes, they'll sign 11 guy at 800K$ but will have 3/4 of a team that are unable to win.

As far being just three depth pieces, well.. Like I say in the explanation AVS play out to get depth players as they need room for Mittelstadt, They'll also need to move one of their defensemen as Toews contract kicks in... Do you guys actually think that AVS have cap space to keep MacKinnon, Rantanen, Mittelstadt, Makar, Girard, Manson, Toews, and Georgiev thinking that other teams will call them and say "yeah I'll help you out, I'll take any contract you need and give you very good value back! That's because in this league, we all help each in the love, help and respect triangle we sow!"..

LMAO! VGK had to give players away for nothing to get some space back.

If Colorado wants space, they'll need to provide and even pay.

By the way, funniest thing I read was " COL gives up the best player and best pick in the trade" from the other guy... Best pick of the trade.. They have a late pick and anyone who knows anything about hockey know that picks 25 to 50 can be a toss up depending on your needs. Right now, depth players is what AVS will need if they are to go at it again next year and years after that. Getting 3 picks for one that late isn't bad, heck replace my 2025 3rd round pick (VAN) with the 2025 2nd round pick (PIT) and it would still be viable for the HABS and provide assets for AVS.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JTrades</b></div><div>I have often thought for years that teams need to have a cap hit for players based on their position in the lineup. Say if a player is on a ELC, then you would be getting great value and have extra money to spend on that line. I know lines change but normally not drastically.</div></div>

Exactly why I did this. As a Habs fan, when you see Gally and Anderson's contracts, you think they should be on the 2nd line producing.. But hell.. Bergevin screwed those amazingly. Everyone knew Gally was a core HABS player, but not at that price knowing his best days were behind him. Should've just given him a 2 year at 7.5M$ and this way you know he'll be there but if doesn't meet expectations, he can be extended for a very low salary or let go knowing you paid him for those last 4 years he gave you everything. They overpaid by 4 years with that 6 year deal.

If you find a GM that can balance his core player and replace those that are 3rd and 4th liners with lower contracts but give you more defensive style plays, then you have more money up front that you can attract actual top 3 players, then top 2 defense, and still get a good goaler. Your second line can be filled with hybrid grit/scorers/defenders.

Of course some players you can move up and down, such has a 1st overall pick like Bedard, his first three years he'll cost you nothing, so if you invest for 3 years in a bigger player, then you might look into paying a top winger and extra million to ensure he comes over, but still the balancing act is not easy for these GMs.

I don't see your most of your trades trades happening, not because they are bad, just context.

The first with Calgary for instance, Hugues wants to move up, not down. They need another solid top 6 guy so the view there id to pick either Lindstrom, Eiserman or Demidov if he's still available.

Necas trade depending on those that are either Habs or Hurricanes fans will tell you it's an overpay or garbage trade as usual. On the realistic sense, I don't see Carolina trading Necas. They'll have 27M$ to spare and most likely will keep him on board.

Orlov to Philly, Unless Brière can trade a few players during this offseason they are strapped for cap space. They have a projected cap space of 500K$ with 19 signed players. Brière needs to do some magic tricks. If there is movement on their side with the Habs, I would see someone like Barron going there for something or if Philly want to liberate cap space either Johansen (If he can play and is injury isn't problematic which I doubt it is), or Laughton which could be a potential player Habs would want until Lindstom (if they take him 5th overall) is ready for the NHL.

I doubt he'll look to move Konecny since he's their big player. THe good about Philly is that unlike Leafs and other teams out there strapped at the max space, they have little NMC players on their team so he can move most of the team if he wants to.

Armia and Barron, as I said for Barron being potentially a good fit for Philly or elsewhere, these would be most likely trades that make sens for a third, or depending on Armia's play a 2nd for a team going for it at TDL IF Armia is playing well.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SlickWilly</b></div><div>If the Hawks wanted a defenseman, they would just take Levshunov at 2, they're not going to trade down and risk him not being there at 5. Either way, Davidson is going to draft his guy. It's going to take a massive overpay to get him out of 2.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>The only hole the Hawks have on defense is a legit top line RHD guy. The LHD side is locked and loaded and on the right they have a very solid top 4 prospect in Rinzel. So regarding defense, it's basically Levshunov or bust early in the first round. That said, they are likely more concerned with getting Bedard help up front to maximize his potential. They are weak at RW in terms of young players or prospects, and frankly, notably weaker in the top 6 compared with defense overall. Nazar, Moore, Bedard, Reichel, Kurashev appear to be their only shots at top 6 in terms of young players/prospects at this point. Not every player will make the top and there may be some outliers that aren't mentioned that over-exceed their expectations but all are lefties except Nazar who's a natural center, so RW is a big problem and bigger I would argue than RHD.</div></div>

Guys.. can't you read.. I said let's see WHY this would happen.. Not saying that it will or it makes sense at this point for it to go through.. Personally I don't think CHI will pass on a second overall pick, Just saying IF IT WERE TO HAPPEN, why would it..
