Tampa Bay Lightning signed Niko Huuhtanen (3 Years / $925,000 AAV)
I don't know how they did it yet again, but this guy has a legitimate shot at being the greatest ever NHL mr. irrelevant. And similarly to the current title holder, Hörnqvist, Huuhtanen has a decent but not huge frame(though admittedly bigger than PH), is a strong skater and is not afraid of physical play. A bit reckless with penalties at times but that can be ironed out, or, if the results translate, won't matter. I've seen him play live, he plays with the confidence and maturity of someone far beyond his age.

I hope he does well, though he has had issues of faltering in high-pressure situations. That's a tendency that can be helped though.

(MIN/TOR) - Dewar for Ovchinnikov, 2026 4th (TOR)
Sad to see Ovchinnikov go. Been a big fan since day 1. Hope he can make in Minnesota. As for Dewar, well, not exactly the guy who I wanted the Leafs to add but also not the worst get of the guys who were available.

Seems like a guy who doesn't have a high ceiling but at the same time does have the kit to become an effective NHL regular. Solid.

(PIT/FLA) - Hellberg for Waeber, 2025 7th (FLA)
I know the sample size is extremely small and I'm splitting hairs by this point, but how do you only get a conditional 7th for a goalie who has been excellent in the little action he has seen and still serviceable in the A?

(CBJ/BOS) - Peeke for Zboril, 2027 3rd (BOS)
Peeke is not very good, has salary and term and the Bruins gave up both a pick and a depth piece? I get that they're hoping for a bounceback after a change of scenery but yikes.

So the Avs got a pick from a basement team for an upcoming UFA G6 depth guy. Interesting choice by Anaheim to say the least.

Conroy might just be a bad GM. He should be thankful Chayka and Fenton are still in fairly recent memory so he can't hit the absolute bottom tier.

(OTT/FLA) - Tarasenko for 2024 4th (FLA), 2025 3rd (FLA)
On one hand the return is terrible, but on the other the Sens did what they wanted: Turned money into futures without having to spend futures of their own. The return is just not what they were looking for, so still a landslide win for the cats.

In a vacuum it's a solid deal but I wonder about the fit. Is Nashville's middle six really a big enough need to spend like this on it?

Only the Leafs could generate these kinds of reactions from a trade like this lmao. An overpaid rental defenseman traded with double retention for mid-round picks. It's a completely fair deal for all sides.

Cynicism comes naturally these days with how these things happen constantly. Happy to be wrong in this case though. And again sorry for my harsh words.

Perhaps I was harsh, but I hope you can get the site to break on your end in a similar fashion because it is borderline unusable right now, to the point where you need to see it to believe it. Happy to hear you guys are not pulling anything which would force/coerce users to accepting cookies, because I've seen that happen too.

I would say there isnt much injury risk, his biggest injury was a broken knee last year off a wicked clapper from the point. But he hasnt shown any signs that it's bothered him this year, and that injury happened rather late into the season last year.</div></div>
Okay yeah that doesn't seem like something that's got big repeat risk, especially for a younger guy.

Money is not terrible but personally I don't like this much term for middle-six guys. Sure, he's a big boy and just entering the prime years but still. I'm also looking at his injury history and seeing a couple of knee issues, can someone with insight on the wings enlighten me if there's potential risk there as well?

Pittsburgh Penguins signed Jesse Puljujärvi (2 Years / $800,000 AAV)
We all know the potential. I know it's silly to talk about potential with a 25-year old but those hands haven't gone anywhere. It's between his ears. If Pittsburgh can solve that puzzle, in which others have failed before, the rewards are obvious. Such a frustrating player but I'd be happy to see him succeed.

Insane haul for a 2nd line center. If this is meant to be a shiny lure to help with signing Pettersson I understand the urgency but jesus! An established NHL player, a 1st and what is essentially three mid-round picks.

Really don't understand the second year nor the money. Seems like a guy you'd want to trade since you're not getting out of the basement this year and probably not next either. Great for Nick though, hell yeah get that money my man.

(ANA/PHI) - Drysdale, 2025 2nd (ANA) for Gauthier

Who's advising a 19 year kid to ghost an NHL GM when you haven't even signed your first contract?</div></div>
I think it's actually great prospects with leverage do this. Would you work at a place that makes you miserable based on some arbitrary honor code? I don't think you would. Most prospects are fine going where they're drafted to, but if they simply don't want to be there, the leverage is an asset they can use. Also it's not like this is unheard of. Lindros and Fox pop to mind immediately.

Toronto Maple Leafs signed William Nylander (8 Years / $11,500,000 AAV)
*Sigh*
It's a fair value contract. But the Leafs could have had a superb below market contract in the summer if Shanahan wasn't so ridiculously stubborn. I think it's obvious by now that he's the one stretching the negotiations, considering the pattern is the same with all three GMs that have worked under him.

My only question is, if you have to choose between John Tortorella and Cutter Gauthier, how did you not fire Torts months ago? His shelf life is 4 years. Gauthier is going to be great for at least twice or three times that.
