Wee baby Seamus
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caerii</b></div><div>Yeah and he was really good the year before. Why would we assume last year was the norm? Especially with the health of our defense?</div></div>
The team def stats were still top-5 in the league (5v5). The goalies were the weak link in MN. The PK was just lost in every aspect, so that seems more like coaching/system to me.
Gus has 2 years left and he's a UFA. There isn't any reason to keep him since they signed MAF. It just moves Wallstedt + pending UFA goalie timeline up a season. Honestly, I'd rather have Wallstedt with a year of NHL time under his belt when the dead cap drops after next season.
If they trade Gus and he turns out great, so be it. They (probably) wouldn't pay him big bucks he'll demand on the UFA market anyways. If they trade him and he has another season like he did this year, then he's a cap dump that wouldn't get claimed off waivers. He'll probably fall somewhere in the middle of the last 2 seasons; which isn't anything special.

I'll take it and run if I'm MN. Gus was terrible last year (so was MAF). MN moves up 3 spots in the 1st, gains $2.8m in cap, and gets a waivers exempt goalie for Iowa.

Potential Rossi Trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>To continue that: KJ probably wouldn't be available this offseason, because of said injury. I'm sure a new GM would want to get a look at him on the NHL roster again, too. And he doesn't really fit Guerin's desire to bring in "bigger players".
It definitely seems like a fit based on team needs/similar pedigree/similar age (Columbus wants a 2C and Minnesota could use another prototypical top-6 winger IMO), I just don't know if it works this offseason.</div></div>
TBF bigger is kind of a relative term for MN. Marat K, Rossi, Spurgeon, and Zucc are all small (5'9"); with Heidt, Kap, and Shaw 5'10".

What's the deal with him? I liked him in college, but in my limited viewing of him at the NHL level he didn't stand out in any way?

Billy G Looking to Make a Deal
I think you do a this draft 1st swap with NDJ for Gus. By the time that 2026 1st happens Gus will be 2 weeks away from UFA status. Gus' consensus value is around a mid 2nd.
I don't see TOR being interested at all in that. Rossi would be a winger next year for TOR, so why would they bother trading 1 wing for another?
AZ has no reason to make this trade. It looks like a pipedream scenario from a MN fan. Cooley. McBain, and Hayton are all similar age so AZ will just a a vet (like Bjugstad) to fill out their center spots. Rossi for Hayton (injured and hasn't really broken out) would be a better proposition to me.
After his season Freddy G's term should be a big red flag for every team. If you could make that trade happen, just non-QO Brannstrom (he doesn't fit anywhere) and it's a win.
I don't think GMBG has any intention of trading Merrill. He's just an expensive Prosser (pressbox d-man) Keep him for emergencies and call up a prospect d-man (and play him) if someone is going to be out for awhile. I wouldn't say any of the kids are too good for or have nothing left to learn in the AHL. Worst case is Merrill is terrible next year and he gets waived and only carries a $50k cap hit.
Really, Rossi and Gus are the only 2 players I see GMBG looking to trade that other teams could want. I think he'll listen on a couple other players that might garner some interest (Middleton, Chisholm), but would have to be blown away to pull the trigger. MN has so many NTCs (full and modified) that most of the roster is basically untradeable.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JayTea</b></div><div>It'll be interesting to see who they end up signing this summer. They definitely need a winger who can immediately be a top 6 contributor, but given the prospects they have that hopefully will be challenging for spots in the next couple years, they really can't sign anyone longer than a year or 2. Toffoli probably would want some term, so basically you're stuck with either an aging veteran willing to sign for a year (the Perron rumor makes senses in that context) or a reclamation project (which obviously is no guarantee of being that top 6 contributor they need).</div></div>
Perron is the popular choice right now.
I don't know what GMBG is going to do, but he doesn't have much of a track record with signing more than fringe UFA players.

This is where I'm at too. Kap/JEE/Marner would be a fun line to watch until the TDL.
TOR would probably be better off pairing Spurgeon and McCabe.

I'm okay with the MN trade. A little expensive for a 4th liner, but it fills the bottom of the roster/PK (Dewar) spot. It's a cap neutral move that gets Wallstedt into the lineup and MN ends up with a 1st.

Have you noticed the crap ton of other fanbases putting out ACGM's for him right now? They're f'ing salivating at the thought he could be moved. Other teams GM's aren't that stupid, he'll garner massive interest.
Don't be daft just because you hate smaller players.</div></div>
This the same 22 yo, 20g, center than MN is trying to get rid of and they are barren at center. The other teams on here salivating over him are offering basically junk.
It's not my hate for small players, it's a fit thing. Rossi doesn't fit well on many teams (MN included). He's a top-6 or bust player and he's not an upgrade at center for many teams. He could be a fit as a wing on a few more teams. His 5v5 stats were on par with Steel (with and without Kap) the previous season, and Rossi doesn't PK where as Steel did.
I actually don't care if they trade Rossi or not this offseason. He's cheap and there are bigger issues with the team than where/how Rossi fits. If it's a quality trade offer then trade him, if its not then keep him.

I'm not sure how much interest there is for Rossi by other teams. He was being shopped last offseason too, slightly different circumstance due to him still being unproven at the NHL level.
I'm thinking that he's going to be another Dumba situation where MN wants to trade him, but there is a just a lack of interest by other teams unless they are paying pennies on the dollar.

Trade down for goalie
I think the MN is the safest one for NJD. Only 3 lose spots in the draft. If Gus rebounds from a down year, great. If he doesn't you're not tied to much term/money.
Outside of the very top end goalies are just so fickle year to year.

MN should take that and run, there are much better ways for them to spend the $7.5m in cap. They were still a top-5 (5v5) defense this year without Spurgeon. Goaltending and lack of FWD depth is what sunk their season.

For the Wild trade I'd rather have it be one of their LD prospects over Beckman. Mainly because they have too many same age LD prospects.
I'd take the trade as is though, barring injury MN can flip Chychrun for a similar return at the TDL if needed ,so they wouldn't be out anything.

Time (and age) changes things. NY was his home. Norway is Zucc's real home. MN is Zucc's current home, where he just re-signed (full NMC) to stay. He could have easily gone the UFA route and signed back in NY. If Zucc was chasing a Cup he wouldn't have re-signed in MN. He probably could have got more money elsewhere too (he's old but hovering around a ppg).

NYR is such a different team than when he was there 6 years ago. There are what 3? players left from his time there and Hank (his bestest bud) isn't one of them. He's married with a kid now. The contract he just signed was his retirement home contract and he'll get to end his career playing with his new bestest bud (Kap).

It's a move I could see the Wild GM doing if Duhaime doesn't re-sign. Then MTL flips Duhaime at the TDL for a pick? I don't see the benefit for MTL. This is a trade that happens when trade GMs get bored, I guess?

Huge overpay to MN. You're getting a 3rd pair d-man, an expensive bottom-6 FWD, and a backup goalie.
