Expanding the pool

Team: 2024-25 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: May 12, 2024
Published: May 12, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
New all Chicago prospect lineup:

Slaggart - Bedard - Eiserman/Lindstrom
Reichal - Moore - Nazar
Lardis - C. Dach - Mesar

Korchinski - Rinzel
Vlasic - Mailloux

This excludes whoever they pick with the Tampa and Winnipeg picks they have, as well as a couple prospects I'm not too knowledgeable on, but who can all be added, this is just more of the well known guys. This team is gonna be tough to beat in a few years.

I can understand being worried about missing out on Demidov, but there's ample reason for Chicago to jump in on this.

The Blackhawks are virtually bringing in 4 1st round picks in this deal, with 26th oa Mesar, 31st oa (would've went earlier if not for 'the incident') Mailloux, Winnipeg's 27th oa pick, and 5th oa this year, which moves Chicago down only 3 spots. Chicago's prospect pool is underratedly empty, with almost no right shot prospects in general, which is a sneaky important reason for the Hawks to like this deal as well.

The big question though is whether the guy 3 spots after Demidov is worth these prospects, and for Chicago, the answer is definitely yes considering it's likely they'll end up with one of Eiserman or Lindstrom, the former having a higher ceiling as a prospect and the latter having a better fit along side Bedsy.
MTL
  1. 2024 1st round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
Montreal fans would be ecstatic to hear they moved up. Though all of the picks and prospects they moved for this are great young players that'd be hard to move off of, Habs fans to this day are salty about selecting Reinbacher over Michkov, so for the team to make up for that by adding Michkov 2.0 would turn Kent Hughes into a saint in the city.

Montreal has a ton of prospects at every position without the roster spots to go around, with top 6 roster spots constantly up for grabs, and a virtually solved D core, the Habs have no space for another 4 prospects that they can't give minutes to.

As mentioned earlier, the team skipped on Michkov, and though I agree with the Reinbacher pick, I also agree that Montreal still has not solved the problem that is their barebones top 6, and if sacrificing a ton of prospects you don't need is the solution, make that call to Chicago on draft night.

Lindstrom will be gone is my guess.
Eiserman at 5 is to high in my opinion. You are passing up better players.

Trading up would theoretically make sense if they thought #2 is clearly above #5. I’m personally not convinced it is, in this draft.

Hawks decline. No guarantee Lindstrom gets past CBJ at #4. And after the top 4, the fit for the Hawks falls off significantly. And Mailloux isn't a fit in Chicago for obvious reasons.

CHI is past the point of the rebuild where quantity is more important than quality.

They have bodies in the system and what they need now is to roll the dice on high-end talent, impact players. Even of the boom-or-bust variety.

I personally, was ecstatic they passed on Michkov to take Reinbacher. Michkov had already said that he wanted to go to Philly and if certain other teams selected him, he would just stay in Russia. He doesn't have the type of character that the Habs brass are looking for, it's all about him not the team.

This is an insane asinine ask from a team to move up 3 spots, the cost of moving from 5th to 2nd is 17th or 27th + 35th. Asking for the equivalent of 4 1st round picks is just stupid!
