Marner would waive for Anaheim apparently but
I don't see the enormous benefit that would result from upgrading Trevor Zegras to Mitch Marner that would justify the cost of the acquisition. Is there anyone with an IQ measurable in three digits who thinks that the difference between this year's 30th-place finish and a playoff slot next season is the difference between Zegras and Marner? We missed the playoffs this season by <strong>TWENTY GAMES</strong>.
Anaheim's top 6 is pretty much set for the balance of the decade: Gauthier and Zegras at LW, Carlsson and McTavish at C, and Terry at RW. It would be great to add Marner to those 5, but subtracting one of them to do so seems like the epitome of the proverbial "two steps forward, one step back." And Marner's extension is going to throw our entire salary structure out of whack.
I don't see the fit here.

California Dreaming
First off, Anaheim is a small-market team, so the Ducks won't be making ANY deal for Mitch Marner until after his $7.25 million bonus is paid by Toronto, so forget about any 2024 draft picks.
Second, once you get rid of Marner's huge cap hit, there's no need to send the useless Timmins along with him, and Anaheim certainly doesn't need a seventh defenseman with 7 under team control for next season already and Pat Verbeek out there beating the bushes for a right-shot high-quality defender.
Third, I agree that an Eichel-like return for Marner is fair, but Zegras has far greater value now than Alex Tuch had at the time of that trade, so I think that Zegras, Jackson LaCombe and Anaheim's 2025 first is about the limit that the Ducks will be willing to go. And given the fact that even with Marner, the Ducks will probably still be a lottery team next season makes that 2025 first look awfully valuable, so even that package might be too much for Pat Verbeek. After all, we missed the playoffs this season by TWENTY GAMES. Does anyone think that Marner alone is going to make up that difference? Especially in 2024-2025?
I really don't see the fit here.

You really have absolutely no clue WHY "top-3 RW" Mitch Marner is being traded, do you?
Hilarious.

Oh, joy -- a useful quality prospect, pick 26 or 27 which is either 3 slots before or 3 slots after the late first we already own, a cap dump and a redundant LhD for the Cole-Caufield-comparable cost-controlled young star with term whom you're going to play at #2C . . .
I don't think so.

Marner For Saros
I find it truly strange that people think that Nashville, a small-market team, will not only take Marner's $10.9 million cap hit off your hands but will also retain on Juuse Saros on top of that.
My prediction is that if in fact Marner gets traded (which I doubt), and if anyone retains on a player in the deal, it will be Toronto, not Nashville or Utah or any other team.

A bird in the hand is worth more than a bird in the bush. The 2024 first is guaranteed to be 12th overall. The 2025 first isn't guaranteed to be a top-16 pick, with Michkov and Zegras being added to a team that barely missed the playoffs this season. And we've never asked for more than Foerster and the 2024 first.

Gavrikov has a NMC, and that's not enough for Gustavsson or Ferraro (although I think that you're not far off on Gustavsson if the Wild want to move him).

Bad idea for Los Angeles. The first for UPL and the third isn't out of the question, although highly doubtful, but trading our leading scorer is not happening, even for 11th overall.

Anaheim declines. We'd rather have Gibson for three seasons than Husso for one plus $9 million in retention and the need to find and pay a new goalie for two seasons, Husso isn't an improvement on the ice and Fabbri doesn't bring anything that we don't have already.

That seems cheap for Morgan Geekie. I'd prefer to have him instead of Isac Lundestrom at #4C, and he might play on the third line, too. I might give you a better 2024 third than the one you're getting in the Ullmark trade.

I don't see Jake McCabe as the top-4 RhD Pat Verbeek is looking for, and we'd much rather use Gus Lindstrom and Tristan Luneau as our third and fourth RhDs instead of Conor Timmins.

Ducks 2
We're not going to have two rookie RDs start for us, in large part because we're not going to trade Radko Gudas to obtain Jacob Trouba. If the scouting staff and front office want Trouba, there are much better ways to obtain him. Similarly, we're not trading Jackson LaCombe to acquire a 33-year-old seventh defenseman.
An LD at #24/#29/#31/#32 would be a poor choice. Even after trading away LaCombe and Hinds (unlikely to happen), we still have Dionicio and Vaakanainen, whom you forgot to re-sign.

2025 Mtl Hopefully
The Calgary pick could easily become the 2025 Florida first. A future draft pick that could be in the bottom quarter of the first round is an unacceptable element in a trader for Trevor Zegras unless it's a throw-in.
Our standing offer remains: in the unlikely event that Zegras is on the market at all, we would want the Montreal 2024 first (fifth overall) plus someone like Owen Beck or Filip Mesar for him.

You're way below the Qualifying Offers on Lundestrom and Vaakanainen, and although we might not want to keep Lundy, I know that we do want to keep Vaaks.
Trenin and Zadorov would be nice adds, especially at those prices.

Wild offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>lolo205</b></div><div>i mean respectfully when looking at the role a player plays, it should be more than points? Moore wasn't like a Top Line Winger or anything??</div></div>
Moore - Danault - Arvidsson/Fiala have been the Kings' best line since January 1, 2023 -- i.e., for one and a half seasons.
Moore kills penalties and although his 2 short-handed points aren't much to crow about, they indicate <strong>something</strong> because they're more than the shorthanded points the four top Wild forwards I named scored put together.
Which would you rather have -- 37-year-old Mats Zuccarello for two seasons or 29-year-old Trevor Moore for four, given that they have the same cap hit?
Your characterization of Moore's contract as a bad one is entirely misplaced, particularly alongside Foligno's and Hartman's.
You have entirely reasonable reasons to hang onto Mats, and I completely accept them. Believing that Trevor Moore is in any way inferior to him is not one of them.

1 more year before the potential greatest UFA class ever
If you're trading Gustavsson because you think you can go with Fleury as your #1, then I think by definition that Gustavsson isn't worth a first-round draft pick. And his 2023-2024 was nothing like his 2022-2023.

Wild offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>lolo205</b></div><div>he's not waiving and wild aren't trading him due to his relationship with Kaprizov. Beside the point, this is pretty much a not good, unserious offer for Gus and or Zuccarello, You're asking wild to also retain which they can't and you're giving up nothing in return but 4th round pick and <strong>Trevor Moore's bad contract</strong></div></div>
I think you should clarify who you had Trevor Moore confused with.
Kaprizov = $9 million
Boldy = $7 million
Eriksson Ek = $5.25 million
Zuccarello = $4.125 million
The only Wild forwards who recorded more points than Moore this season. Moore was +11 (a number exceeded by only Eriksson Ek) and scored more goals than anyone on the Wild not named Kaprizov.
Moore's cap hit is $4.2 million.
The Kings might be interested in Gustavsson, but not at the expense of local boy and fan favorite Trevor Moore.

No, we're not trading Quinton Byfield.
FYI, and for the information of any Toronto fan who hasn't been paying attention, Los Angeles can only afford Marner for one season, and that's if you retain 50% or take Pierre-Luc DuBois back.
