You think the Leafs are the ones adding a first to that? Lol

Leafs fans won’t like this. Also, that kills any depth Detroit would want. Also, Chatifield gets more aav.

Marner is a great player, but Detroit isn’t a fit.

Yeah, the Mathews merchant has 1 year left on his garbage contract, whereas DeBrincat and Wallman have term. If they don't resign him, what's the trade look like the following season? And you think it should look more lopsided?

Trading a highly-paid winger who goes invisible for stretches of time for another highly-paid winger who goes invisible for longer stretches of time seems rather redundant for the Leafs, no? And then they are adding a first? Adding Walman doesn't make up for that difference.
Marner is better than "Patrick Kane Merchant" DeBricant too, and it's not really close

Meh u don't have to like it, but you're making my point that it's a fair trade. The reason you're omitting their AAVs by saying "highly-paid" is because Cat is getting a Wallman's AAV less than ur boy.

Take out the first and maybe. I'd like an extension if they did trade for him.

Completely ignoring all of my points. Classic tears of joy Even other Detroit fans agree with me ^

I didn't ignore any of your points, I agreed with them. We agree that DeBrincat and Marner are pretty much a wash, but Tor is getting $3M+ per year for the next 3 seasons. That's worth ~43 OA for just 1 year of cap relief, so set that aside, then Wallman who would probably slot on the second pair for Tor, I don't know about u but I think he's worth maybe a late 2nd. So I think we're also in alignment on the Wallman making up the difference...

It's definitely in the ballpark if we're arguing over just the 23 OA pick.

If DET gives TOR 47 OA, that would make Wallman worth ~61 OA... Closer?

Leafs don't add a 1st to that and they'd be silly to trade Marner without letting him talk extension first.

Let Marner's camp work out a deal with Stevie Y and make it Cat, Walman, 1st - resembles Tkachuk trade, but far less high end talent coming back to Leafs.

I think that's a pretty good comp for a reference trade. The big difference is Cat and Walman have term and Marner doesn't, whereas Tkachuk had a good AAV for 8 years while Huberdeau and Weegar both needed to be extended.

I think Huberdeau is closer to Marner's play style and production than Tkachuk is... His extension was really similar too. Granted I'm not suggesting Cat and Wallman are equal to Tkachuk, I'm just pointing out that Huberdeau seems like a good comp for Marner, and is probably what teams should expect to get in a trade.

Unless the team that gets Marner has some high end scorers for him to rack up assists from, I think it'll end up being a really lopsided trade for Toronto if they get close to what you're suggesting.
