Value is honestly fine despite what most buffalo fans are gonna tell you, especially if he wants to re-sign him, the issue is cap space, and whether or not Kulich can be a 3C right away. I feel like adding Marner destroys your ability to anything else this offseason so I'd probably pass even though he's a very good player

No. If marner was cheap to acquire and would agree to a reasonable extension, might be worth kicking the tires. That's not the case here, we would be giving up a former 8oa (on an elc), plus 11oa for a late first and either one year of marner, or one year of marner plus the God awful extension he would want. Seriously, not interested. Unless you wanna talk about Skinner for marner, at least then the Sabres could objectively walk away after next year.

The extension needs to be known to evaluate any Marner trade offer. As a rental this is way too much to give up.

Sabres have four RFAs to sign in summer of 2025, and have only one expiring UFA contract next season (and Marners). Just no cap for Marner extension.
Plus the Sabres could be "over the cap" in 24/25 if some of bonuses are met.

Very true, although I would assume getting Marner would make Skinner expendable and I am sure there is a team out there that would take a filer on him

@Logicalicesports
No, it doesn’t make sense for the Sabres

After next season, we have to sign: Byram, Quinn & Peterka- plus, R.Johnson & Levi
To put it simply, we are saving our Cap Space for the young talent we have and very unlikely to add a big, long contract

After we move on from Skinner- THEN, we can consider adding a player like Marner
But i think it would be hard to do BEFORE we move on from him- and it’s very unlikely we move on from Skinner this offseason. He’s here for at least 1 more year i think

Honestly, getting rid of him sooner would probably be the best way to attack it, he had a good season last year and if he takes a step back from that it will be hard to move on from him

Nope, bc we are unlikely to be able to trade him with that cap hit regardless
A buyout is the most likely way we’d move on & it’s WAY more affordable after next season as opposed to now

That just makes the most sense for us
And especially more so after next season as opposed to this offseason

That would not happen. All Leafs fans asking prices are stupid for Marner
