The 2-year tank for McKenna

Created by: beleaf_is_gone
Team: 2024-25 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: May 14, 2024
Published: May 15, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Acquire high picks, aim for bottom 3 of league next 2 years.

Some players might need to waive - but why wouldn't they?

Trade Sharangovich at the deadline. Re-sign or trade Rasmus next summer.

Not making 8 1st round picks -- trade up, trade back to 2027, more balls in the lottery. Attack another RFA or two.

NYR likely can't sign both Schneider and Lindgren, get aggressive. Maybe one or two of Hayton, Robertson and Kotkaniemi are part of the long term solution.

Just have to trade Markstrom and that should get us there. No chance Carolina attaches a 1st to move KK.

Too many moves here and some are really unnecessary. For example, no reason to acquire Ehlers, Hayton, and KK when Zary has looked good at center.

Also highly doubt Kadri waives for Nashville

Nothing against Nashville specifically. Just don't see him waiving anywhere unless it's like a top contender (ie Hertl waiving to Vegas)

He could see potential. Seeing that Nashville is in need of a center. Plus state taxes for 41 games.

i dont think utah is ready to pull the plug on hayton yet. but if they did, an active roster player would be involved.

Maybe but would Nashville really be looking for a 2nd 33 year old top 6 center? I think if Nashville goes after a center this summer it will be KK or Necas

I’d be good with necas but will Carolina trade him?

The canes will have a cap crunch this summer and I'm willing to bet that Necas is below Guentzel and Jarvis on their priority list. Especially if Necas is asking for similar to Guentzel.

Sens need to make the playoffs -- NOW. Their cap situation is a mess -- they won't be able to sign any FA of note. They won't get fair value for Chychrun, So their only options are wait and roll with that you got or get aggressive. A 2025 first rounder outside the top 5 is likely no real help until 2028 -- too far away for them. Maybe a 3rd has to go back their way, but they are a better team the day after they make the trade.

KK is a mediocre 3rd liner. CAR has cap issues and is in win now mode. Plus he has an NTC kicking in after next year. Would you rather have one of Skjei or Pesce or have KK score 1pt in 10 playoff games?
