As a sharks fan, I'm hoping they offer Stephenson north of 6 mil. Vegas would just keep him if he were to sign for this little

San Jose Sharks signed Luca Cagnoni (3 Years / $950,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>yikes</b></div><div>Really good player regardless - but I’m in the seemingly shrinking: minority to trade up for Buium or Parekh. It seemed louder a few weeks ago but as you just outlined the predictions are all over the map and the chance of the ladder working out for us. However, I always follow Bobby Margarita due to his historical accuracy and wealth of experience. His latest:
Celebrini
Demidov
Silayev
Lev
Lindstrom
—
Dickinson
Parekh
Buium
Helenius
Iginila
—
Catton
Yakemchuk
Eiserman
Sennecke
Connelly
In this situation I hope for a trade up as I think the Sharks need a gem added to their d core prospect pool.
I could see:
Celebrini
Demidov
Lev
Lindstrom
Iginla
—
Buium
Helenius
Silayev
- Sharks trade up to 9 to get Parekh</div></div>
Totally agree, I can't believe how low Buium and Parekh are on some peoples lists. I guess that's mostly because they fit what Sharks need more than anything (outside of Celebrini of course) so maybe I'm overvaluing them. But honestly if Sharks fell to 3 instead of winning the lottery I would seriously consider one them at 3. if they're available at 9-12 I absolutely think MG should trade up to get one of them.

Why would the Sharks, a bottom feeding team, spend the 42nd overall pick to pick up a depth D-man in a position where they already have a logjam?

New Era Shorks
Hard pass on Cousins and Orlov. I think go after one of Pesce or DeMelo, not both. Keep Granlund as well and I think it's best to assume that Couture is not starting the year (if ever playing again).
Overall I like the moves but it's a bit too active for reality. You typically see 1-3 Impact NHLer Free Agent signings per offseason for any given team. 5 + 2 new rookie signings + 1 cap dump roster player is a lot of change

Sharks pass. That contract is way too long. Sharks would only look for cap dumps who can be contributors and are on short term deals. in other words, overpaid vets.
They can sign free agents to get to the cap floor

It's a pretty solid UFA class this year honestly, and I feel like only 10-20% will actually get locked up before hitting free agency.
It's great for the Sharks to get some really decent roster players to help the younger guys develop on short term deals

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>yikes</b></div><div>Yup, I think AHL may be where he ends up based on his latest comments (he said he wants to play professionally just an about an hour ago now).
Even more exciting. With the probably Shakir Mukhamadullin promotion to the AHL. There will be a hole opened up for PP, and OF-Zone draws.
Looks like a big summer ahead for Cagnoni and his future.</div></div>
Between him, Halttunen's absurd playoff run, Musty's absurd season, and Smith's literally record breaking season, that 2023 draft is looking to be insane. Rimashevsky and Pohlkamp are sleepers as well

He's still listed as 5'9" on the WHL website as well, but he's around 183 lbs. I've seen him playing and he doesn't look all that small (granted he's playing in the CHL).
Part of me want's Pohlkamp paired with him as the physical shutdown guy when they get to the NHL to be the Short Kings pairing. Now that dude is a TANK

SJ Acquire Rasmus Andersson Sign Bertuzzi Roy Then Draisaitl in 2025 Part 1
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CheechYou</b></div><div>1. "Great prospect" has a ceiling of a 3rd line center. Edstrom's solid, not great.
2. Unprotected 1st is true, but Vegas will be among the best teams in the league next season. They have far too many excellent players locked up to suggest otherwise. That pick will be between 24-32.
3. SJ's timeline just hastened with the win of getting Celebrini. They need to build a somewhat competent team for him to flourish, and that starts at the biggest hole of the SJ roster: no top-pairing dman, especially at RD.
4. Andersson's not available next season for free. He has 2 years remaining.
But you have an overall point that's definitely valid: Sharks should remain the course in their rebuild and not trade their young assets, even if it's for a stud dman. The counterpoint I'd make is that SJ would actually be reducing the worth of their top assets in Celebrini+Smith+etc by not investing in a guy like Andersson to make their team better and, at the same time, those very top young players, who get a lot of their development by playing with other more experienced top players. There's other factors in play here too obviously like all the other young players on this roster, whether the top guys play with SJ next season, how much Hasso wants the team to rebound, how bad Grier thinks SJ needs to rebound after the disastrous season, etc.
Overall, I wouldn't do the trade because #14 I think is just a bit too much. If Grier substitutes that with #33, I think he should make that trade, but don't think Calgary would accept.</div></div>
1. Just because his scouting report on here says he projects to a 3C doesn't mean that's 100% accurate. He's very good.
2. That's where the Sharks 19-20 1st was anticipated to land and we all saw what happened there. Vegas is about to lose a LOT of depth as well as high end talent. Their top six with Hertl, Stone, and Eichel is very injury prone and they don't have the assets to replace those guys if they get injured any more. They literally missed the playoffs the year before they won the cup, remember. Also they're 1st this year is at 19th overall and they had a gd superteam. You NEVER know what's going to happen.
3. Their timeline went from "playoffs are hopeful in 3-5 years", to playoffs are EXPECTED in 3-5 years by getting Macklin.
4. True, your title made me think it was 25-26. Regardless, the reason Andersson is so valuable is because he's on a fantastic contract, which will be pointless for a team like the Sharks, who have TINY shot at getting into the playoffs during the duration of that deal, to acquired him.

Hear me out... Instead of completely derailing your rebuild by giving up a great prospect, an unprotected 1st, the 14th overall + just to get a soon to be 28 year old d-man who doesn't fit their timeline, MAYBE wait a year to get him in free agency for free.

There's about a 0% chance the Sharks take an undersized left winger at 14. Especially if Catton or Nygård are available
Most likely scenario if Buium AND Parekh fall that low, I'd bet a lot of money that they trade up to get one of them

Could have Mews and Kiviharju in this mock.</div></div>
Yeah that's exactly my thought. There's to many really solid players still available there to take a positional need that's projected later.
If they REALLY think he goes in the first round then they can trade #33 & #42 to someone like Carolina for the #27 and #60. Or MTL for the #26 and #57. Then take Nabby 2.0 with that late 2nd if they REALLY want a goalie in the 2nd round

Nah, no more taking on cap dumps unless they can actually contribute. Sign 1-3 ACTUALLY good players to short term deals who can help young guys develop and who will get good value at the deadline.
This team has the great prospect pool, they need to start playing competitive hockey. these measly 3rd-5th round picks aren't worth creating a losing culture
