The Hawks are stacked at LHD leading with Vlasic, who as a rookie this past season, posted the 2nd best defensive stats in the entire league and doing so as a first liner against the opposing team's top 6. He's followed by former #6 pick Korchinski who was also a rookie and the youngest defender in the entire NHL this past season. Beyond that, the Hawks have 4 strong prospects.
It's widely reported that demidov is 6' and some say slightly taller. Also, these young prospects, Bedard included, are hardly done growing with any of these teenagers easily able to still add a inch or two.
Hawks need both a top line RHD guy and top 6 players. Oliver Moore, Lucas Reichel and Frank Nazar all have potential to be top 6, but also could be middle 6 guys. However, Sam Rinzel looks to be a very solid #3 or #4 RHD but not a top line guy.
It really will boil down to what the Hawks think of Demidov's and Levshunov's ceiling and floor for each. Levshunov is probably narrower being anywhere from a #1 to #3 defender. Demidov is probably somwhere between a 65 point to 100 point winger but the likely potential for both players to hit their ceiling maybe higher with Demidov.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>EmailTruck</b></div><div>This has the Hawks taking Zegras at #3. I wouldn't trade Vlasic for Zegras straight up right now.</div></div>
I'm not so sure of that. Vlasic, in the defensive zone, ranked #2 in all of the NHL as a rookie this season playing 1st line heavy minutes against the other team's top two lines. That's quite a an accomplishment as a rookie to be better defensively then everyone else in the league besides 1 player.
I get Zegras is a flashy player, but he's a defensive black hole, and so far shown he's a 20 to 25 goal scorer and 65 point player. Yes, he has room to grow into a likely 30 to 35 goal scorer and 80 to 85 point consistent player, but Vlasic just finished his rookie season as well and is a beast.
Bottom line, I'll take a 1st line D stud over a top 6 forward every day of the week.

Hawks aren't taking on Trouba's $8M for 2 seasons for only a 5th round pick.
Panarin doesn't fit the Hawks timeline, but maybe they retain half and hope they get a really good return at the TDL. That said, it's too much of a gamble paying a mid 1st and late 1st to take the risk.
Kaapo is probably worth between a early 2nd rounder to early 3rd rounder and I could see the Hawks being interested at that price.

Rinzel is headed back to college.
I wonder if Phillips is resigned, but there are others in the system ahead of him in terms of development.
Reichel is not a center at this point, that experiment has been tried.
While I do think they sign a couple vets, I doubt they go big with a 6 year $9.75M contract, I could easily see them bringing back Kane at 3 years $5m or $6m versus signing someone long term for over $9M.

20,000 posts. 20k brother. Idk what you're talking about with oceanfront properties bc clearly you haven't touched grass in years. You're talking like that and the point that you're making is that THE HAWKS are the best in the league at cap management "and THAT IS by design". Dude. Idk if you read my last post. You guys finished second last in the entire league. You guys have cap space because you suck.
I'm totally lost if I think the Hawks are in the business of helping out the leafs? You guys paid Dickinson & Foligno 4M+ just to hit the cap floor. The 11m from Tavares doesn't matter at all. You're talking about turning down a free 2C because of delusional bias. You guys are so trash right now that you'll be sniffing the lottery for the next 5 years even with Bedsy, so 2 years of JT at 11 isn't gonna be ruining your perfect cap at all. Ask any hockey fan of a bottom-5 team (that's seen the sun in the last month :sleepy ) if they'd take Tavares' 11x2 for free, they'll do it in a second. Why? Bc cap doesn't matter at short term when you're one of the worst in the league. Maybe get a clue about cap management before entering a comment with your 19,374 posts and 9,900 likes. Maybe consider a shower or some hoes too?</div></div>
20K posts since 2017...that's 7 years on this website interacting with folks about cap space and trades with a 51% likes on comments. Meanwhile you're 42 comments with 40% likes...you literally just demonstrated how my comments show a lot more support than what you say....thank you! :applaud
Your response still shows you haven't a clue what you're talking about in terms of the cap era or the Hawks plans.
The Blackhawks, in public, explicitly announced a long-term rebuild and as they talked about, they are building organically and sprinkling in some vets to help plus going to weaponize their cap space against other teams. Let me repeat that; WEAPONIZING their cap space against other teams. That means, they (no team) is taking on cap dumps to help other teams...zero chance for them to do that. NO TEAM, in the cap era, takes on cap dumps from other teams for free....doesn't happen, and JT is clearly not worth his $11M cap hit which makes him a cap dump. Leafs can retain 50% and trade him for some value, but at $11M, no team is taking JT even for free that's not how the NHL in the cap era works.
The Hawks signed Dickinson and Foligno to $4M cap hits to help the young kids, and so they can have the option to retain 50% and trade them for draft capital if they decide so. They will likely overpay another vet or two this offseason to do exactly the same thing. It gives them flexibility and they aren't helping out other teams by taking on their cap dumps in doing so. For you not to understand the fundamental difference is exactly why I say you don't understand how teams use cap as a weapon.
You talk about trash teams? The Leafs are trash with no end in sight. Their "core" is a joke and doesn't know how to consistently show up as a TRUE core in the post season. Their cap is incredibly mismanaged and puts them into a corner every off season and again, same thing this year. This has resulted in 8 straight years of post season appearances and only 1 series win to show for it despite having (supposedly) some of the best players in the league. Bottom line, 57 years since they held the cup and 8 consecutive years of underperforming and Leaf fans literally should be the last fans being critical of the way other teams have been managed.

It's called weaponizing the cap; Chicago isn't doing any teams any favors and even a LITR player, as demonstrated in the case with Hossa to Arizona, will cost MTL to move him. Welcome to the NHL; a competitive league.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mikael_Smith</b></div><div>Chicago gets out from underneath arguably the worst contract in the league, a second, and an AHL guy. For a player that could probably get 100 points
How is this a bad trade for Chicago
Worst case scenario Liligren if flipped for a 2nd</div></div>
Lillypad worth a 2nd LOL....yeah no
Jones isn't the worst contrac the league...not even close. We can name way worse ones and as you recognize, he's a first line player...sure overpaid by $2M but not close to being the worst contract in the league. And here's the best part, Chicago is in the top 3 in the league in the best possible cap situations so Jones being overpaid by $2M has zero effect.
Meanwhile, 1 year of Marner does nothing other than the Hawks retaining half and being able to flip him for a couple of late 1sts. Which begs the question, that is what the Laughs should be doing.

That's an absolutely ignorant response. No team is doing the Leafs any favors by eating JT's $11M cap hit....65 points does not equal $11M...more like $6M to $7M....so he's overpaid by a wide margin....Leafs will need to pay someone to move him.

It’s not going to happen.
I bet you think cozens contract is an absolute steal lol.
It’s a medium risk high reward. I’m fine with PLD being a 60pt player at 8.5. The cap will rise significantly and he’ll probably count for 8% of the cap next season.
You people have a vendetta against this guy for something you think is true. Which is pathetic. PLD is not a cancer. That’s something the fabs labeled him as for that one stupid shift in CLB which is sad. That organization is that great right now and then got traded to another mediocre ORG. In WPG. HE had the right to say I’m not signing with you, even as an RFA. I don’t blame him for wanting to play for LA and live in Manhattan beach.
People are so upset because of that ONE shift and they are soft as ****.
I bet you LOVE the cousins deal in BUF. hate to break it to you it’s currently worse as an example. This is how stupid you people are. The cap will rise making this contract less and less every year.
Kings aren’t trading him. Especially not for garbage low ball offers</div></div>
LMAO, $8.5M cap hit for 40 points with a bad reputation as reported by many insiders...The Athletic just did an article on him and saying the Kings should think about buying him out. The stupid one is you not realizing what a bad contract this is for 7 more years unless he figures out how to produce and be a team player.

Gaudreau Bedard Marner
Chicago easily declines both. Marner is a ONE YEAR RENTAL....how does that make sense for a rebuilding team to give up draft capital for 1 year of Marner. Now you're going to suggest chicago will extend him; okay but Toronto is not the beneficiary of that as they literally only own 1 year of value of Marner.
That being said, i have no doubt Marner is worth (2) late 1sts and a couple of 3rds for 1 year, but it won't be a rebuilding team paying that price.
