Isles aren't going to want the rights to Guentzel, but I'm sure you could have directed that trade at any team.

Isles take this if we find a 3rd party to retain cap. We have about 3 mil to spare.

Isles decline. Not because it's a terrible deal.
Lee bring every intangible you look for and would be such a blow to our locker room.

Not bad, but I think Isles decline.
The Pelech/Pulock combo has been together too long to break up for a fair trade.

Realistic Offseason
We don't sign big UFAs (unless they're returning, which I think Lou probably pre-negotiated before trading for them). The worst part, is the fans act like its some sort of honor, meanwhile they created a chant to make fun of Josh Bailey, and UFAs take less money and term to NOT be here.

This is lol. Look into Brock. He's our best player.
I actually hope we sign him to a cheaper but similar long term contract like I suggest for Stamkos. He can be our Joe Pavelski.

As I said, this is unrealistic.
This is what it would take to get him at a worthwhile cap. I know the contract is bad, but it is what it is.
Valid concern, but he hasn't been injury prone for quite some years.

This not really an improvement. You traded Pulock for a rental, and sold a reasonable D prospect low. I think we are better off with Lee and Pulock.

Actually, very smart. Sell our future out the gate.
Or, and this is dumb so forgive me. Keep your options open. Not like Nelson would be one of the best possible rental contracts.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cmarch</b></div><div>Reilly is coming back not Aho. Btw Holmstrom is getting paid about half that value. They'll have around 3.3M in cap space after bringing their guys back. One of Lee and Pageau will be moved, the question from there becomes who do they bring in</div></div>
Why pay to move them until the deadline. Makes no sense, and one of Lous philosophies is if you have time, use it.
Also, FAs don't like L.I. Can't blame them. The infrastructure is old. Traffic is bad. Fans are rude. And on top of that, people act like it's some sort of honor to be here. So no. We aren't going to be getting a piece better than Lee or Pageau. No star player in their right mind would choose to come here.

Isles don't have a reason to pay for cap space, and FAs often take less money, or lower term, to not be here, making it unlikely we will need to pay.

There's no reason for the Isles to pay for cap space at the moment.
Free agents historically dislike the Isles. Even taking lower term, or pay, to NOT play here. So it's unlikely we get a pickup that would require it as well.

Chychrun probably disrupts the structure of the Isles defense too much. The third pair would be Romanov and Mayfield. So I doubt we would be willing to pay market value. But Chychrun would definitely be a good snag for a team.

Could this work
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ForsbergForVezina</b></div><div>I see where you're coming from and respect it. Deep down I know a serious retool (total rebuild?) is what we need but as long as Lou is GM it's not going to happen. There's a lot of good pieces on this team, but they're missing 2-3 that will make them a true contender. Maybe they can find them without tearing down what's there, but probably not</div></div>
It's sad because I've seen John T take less term to go elswhere, Panera Bread take less money to play not even an hour away. Gaudrea took more money but it was for a really bad Blue Jackets team.
Big UFAs have shown time and again there's nothing special about the Island to attract them. And I don't blame them. We had a song making fun of Josh Bailey for years. We are not a good fan base. We even hazed Gaudreau when he just took more money, for honestly, a better area. Long Island infrastructure is not only old designed, it was intentionally designed bad, this iwas a way to keep poor(black) people from taking the bus to the beach.
Long story short. We aren't going to get outside help. We need to build within, and Lou is keeping us in mediocrity because it's just good enough to sell tickets.
