<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>WhoCares_ItsAFantasyGame</b></div><div>I would think that Detroit would match that offer, I'm even thinking they'll offer a bit more if he signs a long term deal.
As for Matheson, I don't think he's a player Hugues wants to trade at this point, that pick may change his mind, but I have a feeling he wouldn't. While some CHI fans will say that Hawks decline, they have no clue of his actual value. 18th pick is pretty much a good spot for his value.
As for Evans and Montembeault, I'd keep them. Evans is always reliable, and Monty is developing very well. He'll be a very good 2nd tier 1st goalie. If Habs do actually get the value they think of their current blue line prospects and finally get a good solid NHL top 4 in 2 years from now, You won't need a high caliber Goalie, you'll need someone who's reliable and able to stop pucks which I think Monty will be. He won't become a Brodeur, Roy or Price, but he'll be a good goalie for a contending team with solid defense.</div></div>
There's no doubt Matheson is valuable and some team with a top 4 LD need would probably offer that kind of draft capital for him. Chicago's top 4 LD moving forward are Vlasic and Korchinshi, two rookies with a ton of upside. This trade would be robbing from a position of need for a position of abundance which is terrible asset management. Who gets moved down to the 3rd pairing? Definitely not Korchinshi who's defense is very suspect and his offense would be stifled. Not Vlasic because his advanced numbers suggest top pairing talent. Matheson is too good to be a 3rd pairing defenseman. So either Chicago puts one of Vlasic or Korchinshi in a role they're not adequately suited for or they trade #18 for a top 4 defenseman and stick him on the 3rd pairing which would be a terrible idea. They also have Del Mastro, Kaiser, Phillips, and Allen on the left side that they're high on. It's not that we don't like Matheson. It's that we like our guys more and they're younger and fit the timeline better.

So somehow we went from common sense (Mikheyev is a cap dump) to nonsense (Mikheyev has positive value).
Chicago tells you to pound sand.

Would you prefer that paid in US dollars or Canadian dollars and is that pre tax. I have a feeling this may blow up bigger than a simple gift card and we may need to get underwriting involved.

I get that you said any team for the Husso trade but I am a little intrigued if it could be tweaked. Husso would probably just get bought out by Chicago so if the return works out, there's definitely a deal that could happen. Viro would have to be replaced with a player that fits a positional need but I could see a trade like this happening.

I'm going to take a completely different approach to this proposal. I would accept the trade, retain half and immediately flip him to another team for a 1st+. Tavares at $2.75 cap hit would be a steal for a team on the cusp of a championship.

Depends on what they've got in the pipeline. Usually once teams hit the point where Vancouver are (contender), the cupboard is usually bare.

I'm with exo on this one. Chicago has a great scouting department and I'm sure they'd rather have the 2nd and draft one of "their guys" who's 3 years younger. Klimovich is still young enough to turn things around but right now he doesn't carry 2nd round value.

Necas and Rossi
The closest comp you could argue for Chicago accepting this trade is Beauvillier but Chicago was injury plagued when they made the trade and needed warm bodies. That was in-season and filled a need. Atkinson doesn't fill a need and really doesn't fit with the direction this team is headed. Is it a guaranteed no-go? No but if I were a betting man I'd put my savings on this trade not happening.

I agree. My counter was to highlight the value of #2OA specifically to Chicago. If I were Montreal I wouldn't make the trade I proposed. That's why I stated that I believe there isn't a trade scenario both teams would be comfortable pulling the trigger on.

Chicago counters with their '24 1st (#2OA) for Slafkovsky, Xhekaj, Montreal's '24 1st and Winnipeg's '24 1st. My guess is there isn't a deal to be made on either side though.

Yeah that's not going to happen and everyone knows it. Neither is this trade though. It's completely nonsensical to think that package gets Byram without the 2nd. Raddysh is a solid 3rd liner if he can he back to his '22-'23 production. Roos is never going to be an NHL regular. The 2nd round picks are a wash so it's essentially Byram for #20 this year and a 4th next year. That's terrible for Buffalo.
