Not to mention that I do not think that Laine would do very well at all with his mental health in an environment like Montreal, where there would be a lot more pressure on him to play and perform up to expectations.

Interesting about Cirelli. He is paid like a #2C and would be a very good #3C on any contending team, (which is what Montreal is trying to build towards but obviously not there). I am not sure that adding $6,25M to the Habs roster right now is what they would do, even for a player as good as Cirelli is. I think Montreal may want to see if Kirby Dach can be a healthy and productive #2C, which would mean they would miss out on that potential Cirelli option that is posted here.

Corsi cup champs 6 years running
Why would Carolina trade away their #2C of the future in Kotkaniemi after they were able to steal him from Montreal just a few years ago? Isn't he going to be a perennial 70 point player behind Sebastian Aho? They should at least be able to get Adam Fantilli or Leo Carlsson for him in a trade.

I would love it if Montreal got Iginla at 5 and Eiserman slides to the early teens and Montreal trades up in the draft to grab him too.

That guy who scored 1.87 ppg vs NCAA as 17 year old
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caufield</b></div><div>The reason he drops is definitely not because of his numbers.
Eiserman has flaws that won’t get him at the NHL level if he doesn’t greatly work on them. But that’s ok, he’s not the only one like that. The problem is, he hasn’t really given scouts and managements the idea that he “wants” to improve. I completely see a reasoning behind thinking that he will have bad attitude with coaches and development staffs, and if he does, he won’t improve enough to be the player he was drafted to be</div></div>
If you have a subscription to The Athletic, there is an interesting article on him:
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5353960/2024/03/22/cole-eiserman-nhl-draft-2024/
I also think sometimes we all forget (myself included) that these players are just teenagers. They still have the ability to learn, develop and mature from the time they are drafted until the time they are playing in the NHL. As a Habs fan I acknowledge that Slafkovsky's growth took time. Furthermore, some of his actions at the World Hockey Championship (https://dailyhive.com/montreal/canadiens-slafkovsky-mocks-opponents-mens-worlds) could be viewed as immature. But he is a young guy, like Eiserman. They can both do better.
This is not to say that Eiserman is as complete of a player as perhaps Celebrini is, but I think that the potential to be a star and a better overall player is there for Eiserman. Of course, only time will tell.

I could see him as good as Kessel, if not better, in his career. That would be a pretty impressive career.

I think Eiserman could be a dark horse option. If Montreal thinks that Kirby Dach is a playmaking center, then having Eiserman as his go to scoring winger is not a bad option.
A while back there was an article on The Athletic about Eiserman that I think was useful about dispelling some of the negativity about him (I.e. his attitude and willingness to improve other areas of his game).

Is Kapanen better than Beck
I see them as being close to even. Maybe one becomes 3C and the other 4C in the next few years. Not sure who would get the advantage (although Beck seems higher in the prospect rankings). Both should probably spend time in Laval first before trying to become an NHL regular.

Would love for Demidov to fall to #5 (and for Montreal to actually pick him and not pass on him, like they did with Michkov) but I would be extremely surprised if that happens.
Demidov would fit so well with Chicago’s, Anaheim’s or Columbus’ needs for improved offence.
Like I said, I hope your prediction comes true though.

This kind of proposal (where the team remains essentially the same and the “Core 4” playoff heroes remain on the roster) is the type of thing that I like to see happening to the Leafs. Keep it the same and see if it will work after it has failed year after year after year…..

It would surprise me if Utah trades away players that are headliners on the team in the new city, even if it was for a good package of prospects and picks. They will want to make an immediate impact on the fan base. This does not do that.

I cannot see Montreal doing that. They do not need an undersized forward who does not score like he should. Struble provides decent physicality, which Montreal needs.

If Montreal was able to move to #2 they would not likely take a LHD. They need offense at the forward position so they would take Demidov or Lindstrom (maybe even Catton). If they wanted a defenceman they would likely go Levshunov (RHD).

Does Ottawa want to get their draft pick guy
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>westcoasthabslifer</b></div><div>They’d obviously have to weigh the risk especially if Demidov or Lindstrom are there….but we’d finally be in a good position to pull this off. The only reason we couldn’t trade down last year was because Arizona would’ve taken Reinbacher. But this might actually work. Still though probably only worth it if we have a plan to use the extra pick to trade up. Or they are absolutely sure we can still get our guy. But I wouldn’t really want to risk trading down just to draft 25ish when we already have a pick around that spot.</div></div>
I would definitely like the idea of then packaging the Winnipeg and Ottawa pick for a pick in the teens

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheBoyDuddus</b></div><div>That would be a steep price to pay to move up two spots. The Habs dont want to spend another 1st on D after Guhle, Mailloux and Reinbacher the last 4 drafts.
I dont think the difference between Parekh and Yakemchuk would be big enough to spend another 1st to take the one you want. Buium, Silayev and Dickinson all there as well for Cbj if they want.</div></div>
After I posted I also considered editing the trade and having Montreal add their 2nd round pick from Colorado (which would be a late second) to offset some of what Ottawa is getting. Not sure if that would be enough or not.
As one person said above, sometimes teams get really focused on getting "their guy", so maybe Ottawa would do such a trade. The late first round pick that Ottawa has from Boston is nice to have (for Montreal or Ottawa), but given the draft is not tremendously deep, maybe Ottawa would do it to get who they want and not lose that player to Arizona/Utah.

Carolina is stuck with Kotkaniemi. I cannot see any good reason why Montreal would trade back for him. People complain (rightfully so) about how Anderson and Gallagher are overpaid for their production. Kotkaniemi would only add to Montreal's collection of overpaid players.

Guessing he either stays or moves it for RHD help. If he trades down I seriously doubt it's ~10 spots down.</div></div>
I originally thought about including Barron or Savard (both RHD). Would Detroit consider them in a package for #14?

getting pick 14
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ht42</b></div><div>As a Habs fan, I don't really see Yzeman doing that.</div></div>
Maybe not, but this would be #26 + #60 (Colorado- approximately) + #45 (Pittsburgh in 2025- approximately) for #14 plus 2 serviceable NHL players that could help Detroit keep the puck out of the next for a low cost. It is not horrible.
What do you think Montreal would have to add? A bad contract coming back? Another young player like Harris or Barron?
