Draisaitl has 105 pts in 67 playoff games. McDavid 106 in 67.
Matthews 48 in 55, Marner 50 in 57, Nylander 43 in 54. The team went 1/21 on the PP this playoffs;
But Marner alone is the reason Leafs keep losing</div></div>
I would argue otherwise as the difference between Marner and Hyman+4 mill guy is the same cap as Brodie and Pieterangelo...
Hyman alone wouldn't make the difference, Pieteranglo does though

Toronto guy rants about marner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MitchJr</b></div><div>Matthews is a great player, no argument here.
But what has he done in the playoffs? Or Willy? Or Tavares? Or Reilly? They’re all part of 1/21 PP. <strong>Are you arguing they would have helped solve the PK issues? </strong>
Your argument would hold more water if those guys were putting up Draisaitl numbers but they aren’t and haven’t.
No one has played great for the Leafs in the playoffs, this past year included. Kind of weird you’d focus all your frustrations on one guy only. But that’s what losing does - leads to irrational & reactionary judgements.</div></div>
They 100% would have, that's my point...
Matthews and Rielly carried the Leafs through RD 1 vs Tampa... Matthews has also usually been at a PPG, above or near it in the playoffs (Out of his 8 years in the playoffs, only 2 series have been 2 pts or under a PPG, Marner's had 5/8)... That the frustration...
Then add in all of the clips of Marner not battling int he corners/back-checking, that never happens with Matthews, you never have a situation like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kw-BoYhAdUM
or this: https://www.markerzone.com/news/index.php?no=366274
And especially not in the same playoffs
The add in a Leafs lineup looking like:
Bert-Matthews-Domi
Knies-JT-Willy
DeBrusk-Minten-McMann
Dewar-Kampf-Grebonkin
Reaves-Holmberg
Rielly-Pesce
McCabe-Montour
Brnoit-Lilly
Webber
Woll
Stolarz
Hildeby
This team is so much better than the one that lost in game 7, the depth is unreal and the defence is scary

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MitchJr</b></div><div>A more complete player? Marner plays PK, PP and was a Selke nominee. I’d say both are pretty complete players.
Sounds like you have made your mind made up - twist facts to fit your agenda . What are you going do 🤷🏻? agree to disagree. Go Leafs Go</div></div>
Matthews finished 3rd in Selke voting, Marner go 1 5th place vote this year! Matthews is also 6'3", 220 and has more hits, blocks, takeaways and more/60 than Marner... Matthews is a more complete player...
Also, you say Marner plays PP (1/21 in the BOS series), PK (64.7%) and again, wasn't close to a Selke caliber player this year, especially in the playoffs
My agenda is Leafs win the 2025 Stanley Cup, and acting like Marner's some god unfairly treated that he gets 10.9 mill and doesn't ever show up when the Leafs need him most (what would have happened if the Leafs got a 2-0 goal in G7 or sustained pressure on Boston the shift after Nylander got his goal? Marner's line was out there and we can both agree RS Marner does that...
So, You can say whatever you want, I'll agree to disagree, but in now way has Marner been the best out of the 5 in the playoffs...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MitchJr</b></div><div>First, you hardly speak for all leaf fans but appreciate your perspective.
Objectivity is not your strong point - you basically used your opinions as backup for your opinion that Mitch needs to go.
Willy was a pariah amongst many Leaf fans a few years back - recall the turn away going into corner instead of taking needless hit vs Tampa.
Matthews has not, and did not, turn up in playoffs this year but gets a pass. Same for Tavares.
<strong>Mitch’s production is better than all of theirs in playoffs</strong>. And he’s a playmaker, more than a scorer.
You’re entitled to your opinion, absolutely- but please don’t try to portray it as anything other than that.</div></div>
It's not... Matthews has 2 less points in 2 less games.. Now factor in Matthews being a more complete player, a ton of Marner's points are secondary assists and Matthews has more goals, Matthews has outperformed Marner in the playoffs...
And points wise, Marner's outperformed Nylander and Rielly, but considering the gap's not that big, Marner plays with Matthews and the pay gap; he's deserved the criticism he's received...

Saying Matthews didn't preform but then giving Willy a pass is hilarious...
Matthews played only 1 more game, while playing 3 of them under illness and potential injury and led the team in points in the playoffs and set up the lone goal for the Leafs in G7...
I'm good giving Willy a pass, but Matthews should get a bigger pass considering his state and still played... You can not tell me honestly that this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rn7V_WUs_t0 looks fine

If Marner wants to be stubborn and not waive
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div>Or you know… Leafs still want to have a good regular season. Marner puts up another 90pts season because he’s a good regular season guy, disappears in the playoffs again. <strong>Flips the bird to a fan base that really treated like him like garbage for years</strong> (and probably even worse this upcoming season) , and gets a major payday with another team.
This really depends on if Shanahan and Treliving want to be the villains in this situation or vilify Marner instead.
<strong>They can scratch him until he agrees to a trade, hurt their reputation across the league for doing that kind of thing to a player.</strong>
Or they can be the white knights, a “do right by the player” and have the fanbase and Toronto media turn on Marner.
So I disagree that Marner has all the cards. Shanahan and Treliving can be pricks to force a trade. Just have to wait and see if they have the guts to do it…</div></div>
1. Leafs fans have been treating Marner like gold up until now, excuse after excuse as to why he underperforms when they need him most... When he needed a new contract, 10.9 for 6 years, walks straight to his age 27 year. He gets to play with Matthews on the 1rst line, controls PP1 and PK1, etc. The franchise has treated him like gold... He can never get criticized by management, etc. But the moment management thinks about trading him, he throw a fit...
2. I think most players and agents would understand why they are doing what they are doing. I think more players and agents would respect the Leafs less for bending over backwards for a player that doesn't deserve it

It's an outlet. Marner certainly doesn't do himself any favors but he's undeniable a great player. 1.11 ppg in his career, Eichel is below a ppg and isn't as good defensively. Put all the anger aside and Marner is without question a top player.
I will say though, with his decision to play out his contract, he better make it count.</div></div>
Eichel's preformed in the playoffs, Marner has not
Eichel has a cup, Marner has not
Marner loses all of his defensive credit as soon as that Pasta goal went in... And they are similar offensively...
And Eichel's a centerman, Marner's a winger... That provides value

Like for Marner we dealt with this **** last time and from the looks of things were in for it again but worse
I dont want to hear all of next season
So is he staying and how much he getting, leaving in FA for nothing, or finally agreeing to get traded ?
Make a decision and stick to it
But for me personally you need to play that ugly game with him if you have to in order to move him as giving him 12.5m x 8 years does not solve anything besides okay guess were keeping him and once again...RUNNING IT BACK :scream</div></div>
It's ugly, but it's the only way he'll learn that TO won't give him everything he wants...
Just let him sit for "trade related reasons" and when he's ready to get dealt, as you go to him and say "You aren't playing any games this season for us, which will lower your value and other teams won't want to deal with this, or give us a list of team to get dealt to." And he or his agent will give a list...
As to why him; he's the worst in the playoffs out of the 5 with the exception of the hometown kid, whom could've gotten 13 in SJ, but signed here instead... Dubas signed the JT deal knowing these 2 year will suck, but it is what it is... He's been a pro at dealing with the media and as a leader with the rookie (him allowing Knies to stay with him comes to mind)... He's also not going to be asking for a ton of money on his next deal either

They'll probably give him a longer term than they should at his age and guarantee he'll be a Lightning for life in return for a lower AAV. Maybe Stamkos wanted McDonagh back, and he's agreed to take a big pay cut so they can afford to bring him back.
Or maybe it's the opposite. Maybe the talks with Stamkos haven't gone well and they've given up trying to sign him, so they know they'll have cap space to bring McDonagh back.
I guess we'll find out some time in the next month.</div></div>
Maybe... But 5 mill in cap space with 2 more players needing to be signed would mean Stammer would have to take a major discount to have a slightly worse team than TBL's last game against FLO

Leafs 2024 2025 Offseason Discussion Part 1: Kill or Be Killed
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aadoyle</b></div><div>Thats not true at all
PK injuries mainly happen due to<strong> blocking a hard shot, a deflection off someone's stick that goes up high, getting high sticked, a push and shove match,</strong> getting dangled, tripping, etc
Has nothing to do with mental game or dumb choices.
Dumb choices are what lead to goals for the opponent thats one thing they can be linked to</div></div>
Those lead to bumps and bruises and wouldn't keep Matthews out for the season
Getting dangled/tripping would fall under dumb choices, reach instead of watching shoulders, etc.
NHL players are so good, it comes down to the mental side of things for most things, obviously Matthews' shot or McDavid's speed isn't mental, but 680/roughly 690 NHL players don't have an attribute like that and the ones that do, are unlikely to have multiple, then what would be the odds of them being on unit 2, close to none...

That ain't happening... Matthews is too smart of a player to let that happen, next
Then look at the Panthers:
PK unit 1: Barkov-Reinhart
Unit 2: Forsling-Ekblad
And no offence to 97 and 29, Matthews I a far more superior player defensively than either one and closer to Barkov in that regard of stats and build...

And I doubt Berube will trust a rookie in a big role considering this teams PK issues when Kerfoot and Holl left lul
We cant expect these guys to come in and take on a big role right off the bat. While Cowen had a good season with the Knights the NHL is a different more challenging landscape and to just thrust Cowen into the deep end to soon can cause issues fast
Best thing for TOR is to bring in some nice reasonably priced guys who can take on these responsibilities and let the prospects make their way slowly
Stenlund for instance would be a nice addition for the PK and can take faceoffs to</div></div>
I think it would be dumb not to have him there... He actually had his 1rst 80+ game season since his rookie year while playing PK, with the only game he missed was from ilness (from mulitple guys being in his home filming for the TV show, I'd have to imagine, considering he doesn't usually get this sick all the time)
I think Berube knows he has time to tinker with the lineup during the RS, so why not try Cowan with Matthews on PK2, what's the worst that can happen? Cowan not do well in G5 of the RS and gets pulled off?
I'm not expecting Cowan do be anything more than my expectation for Knies (i.e. just try to contribute every game, not on the Gs and As categories, but the small stuff like puck battles) IF he makes the team
Best thing TOR can do is get ELCs on their team (which would help with Grebonkin as 4RW with Reavo, Minten, Cowan, Niemela, giving Webber reps at 7D and Knies) look at all of the cup winning teams, you need bargain players... On top of those ELCs, you'll have McMann, Woll and Benoit making peanuts...
Trade Marner for more types of these players and draft picks and go from there... But Berube will get the most out of Cowan if he displays confidence in him, like London's done
