Building this team isn't about next season, or the one after, it's about putting value into the system so that a true contender can be built.

If you added Konecny to any team playing in the semi-finals right now, he's probably a second line player who helps on the first pp unit.
I love the guy, he played in the same AAA hockey system as I did, I have a big collection of his hockey cards, but on a top team in the league, he's not the top player, maybe in the top 5 of the team.

Beezer is a clever player, reads the game really well, has some nice hands and vision, but I hope I'm wrong, I think he's a middle 6 support player.
He provides an opportunity for the Flyers to possibly see a great player in 5 years time, as the top 15 of this draft has some really great players.

A player who can be special 3-5 years from now, for another 10 years is more valuable in my mind than what Beezer can bring for the next 6-7 years.

Also Konecny and Beez are different players.
Konecny had a break out season in 2019-20, 61 points in 66 games. Playing in the OHL, he was the best player on his team 3 years in a row,
Beez's time at NTDP he was a complimentary player with Hughes and other teammates.</div></div>

The Flyers have said they want to be competitive when Michkov comes over in 26-27. Michkov might come over earlier but 26-27 is still the timeline. That's 3 years from now. They would rather have good talent now rather than later. Trading Farabee now when he could reach that 60-70 point potential in the next 2 years for a pick that has risk involved with it which would become a impactuful player in 5+ years is just not what they need right now.

I think you are wrong about that Farabee is a middle 6 support player. He already showed this last season that he is a top 6 player. A guy who has 41 points in 51 games isn't a middle 6 player.

If you want a mid 1st round pick then you are better off trading Konecny than Farabee. He is 3 years older, in need of a big extension and more valuable.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mardzy</b></div><div>Ok, so likely 12-16th pick.
He looks like a complimentary piece, doesn't really drive play, or produce on the PP, doesn't PK, and is not able to be consistently physical.
I think he could be a 70 point player, doing something like Nyqvist in NSH. He needs more talent around him to produce.

The thing is Torts will be the coach the next two years.
Players that are in and out of his doghouse, that can be moved should be traded to get some value, so the team can get what it needs from the players in the specific roles.
Flyers won't be cup contenders in the next 3 or 4 years, by that time Farabee will probably have a different role than what he's projected to have now, probably more defensive.
He has value, I think the Flyers should try to get the best deal they can so they have more value for when they do become actual contenders.</div></div>

Would also like to point out that Konecny was 25-26 years old when he had his breakout season. You need to be patient with young players. I remember there being talk around trading Konecny in the offseason before he broke out. Looking back that would have been a huge mistake. You don't want to have that happen with Farabee now that he has already shown what he can become.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mardzy</b></div><div>Do you think he's worth more, or less than the 24th pick overall?
He was a 14th pick and I don't think he's lived up to his draft status.

The last third of the season he didn't perform, although he did have a career year.
He should be entering his prime

From Feb 1st to end of season Farabee was 11th on the Flyers in points, 32 games 5G 5A. 1 PPA although averaging PP ice 2:46/game
Hathaway, York, Cates, and Poehling were more productive. Laughton had about the same TOI and scored 8 more points.

It seems like Beezer, Couts, Frost and Brink don't really fit with Torts.
I think it's better to get something for him and fill the team with the type of players that are going to fit with Tortorella.</div></div>

Farabee is 100% worth more than a 24th pick.

Using draft status is an irrelevant point because it doesn't mean anything, we can just look at his stats and other relevant factors instead.

He is 24 so he got plenty of room left to grow. Bit over halfway through the season he had 41 points in 51 games and was one of Flyers best even strenght point contributers the whole season getting 43 out of his 50 points on even strenght.

Altough he hasn't been good on the powerplay he has been really good on even strenght and has been one of the best even strenght players on the Flyers. If he can figure out the powerplay or elevate his even strenght scoring even more you have a guy who is putting up 60-70 points in a year.

Using your february 1st to end of season time period the team went 13-14-5 during that period. The whole team slumped during that period, not just Farabee. At that point players were getting tired of playing the Torts style of hockey.

I actually hate the arguement that we should trade someone like Farabee or some other young player because he doesn't fit with Torts. Torts only has 2 more years left on his contract after which he will retire from coaching. I can get arguement for older players that are like 25+ but for someone like Farabee or Brink who are only 24 and 22, and have plenty of potential left in them it is just stupid.

If they want to trade Farabee they will get 100% of his value in return. Trading a guy who is 24 and has potential to become a 70 point player for a late 1st (16-32) which only has a 65% chance of even playing 100 games in the NHL is just bad asset management.
