Full reset which is a shame
That'd work for the Jackets, but I'd be quite surprised if Carolina went for it given the risks associated with Laine.

Trades
Doesn't work for the Jackets; the whole reason why Boqvist is available at all is because we have a blueliner logjam we're trying to clear. Swapping him out with Woo is just pointlessly downgrading.

I'd frankly prefer to keep Texier, myself; I think he's already shown himself a reliable NHLer. I could easily see others disagreeing with that, tho.

The bribery attempt is noted, but the Jackets don't really have room for any of those guys and are past the "hoard picks" phase of the rebuild (especially ones that come that far in the future), so that'd almost certainly be a "thanks but no thanks"

Matheson to Detroit

We have a lot of prospect pool depth, so trading one Really High Upside guy for two lesser picks is kind of the opposite of what we need. So that's a probable no.

I'm not wholly convinced getting Johansson makes up for having to fully retain on Merzlikins.

That'll be a "no thanks" from the Jackets as we don't have the room available on the wing to give Wahlstrom the bounceback opportunity he'd need.

Yes or no
I'd ultimately opt to keep KJ, if only because he's further along in his development. But that would be extraordinarily tempting.

Yep. Meant Hronek. I blame the post immediately above mine for messing with my short-term memory.

Demko does nothing for us here - we badly need <strong>shutdown</strong> blueliners, not more offensive ones - and there's no way in hell we'd pay that much for anyone anyways.

Don't really see the need to dump Danforth for so little. He's not the sort of guy we need to be looking at moving.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rags21</b></div><div>I don’t think Laine and Kakko come with the same risks
Kakko is cheaper, young and barely got top 6 PP1 time</div></div>
Kakko also has a much, much lower floor than Laine, is proportionately more overpaid, has shown considerably less likelihood <strong>to</strong> work out, and unless he has a massive breakout has no role on the Jackets beyond getting in the way of many other wingers that need the ice time more. In a vacuum the risks certainly aren't the same, but even if one ignores costs we can afford to risk Laine far more than we can risk Kakko.

I will see the whole damn world burn before I tolerate seeing a Strome in union blue. Particularly when they're <strong>still</strong> trying to be sold to us as centers.

trading a couple of guys
Um. No. Not Kuzmenko. The add on that would have to be closer to, say, a Rasmus Andersson - not Yet Another Winger we don't need or want. And it'd have to be your 1st, not Minnesota's.

The buyout consideration has actually largely gone away given Waddell's latest comments to Seravalli.

Olivier's been better than fine as a roleplayer, so there's no real motivation to give him up here. Especially if we're not getting anything better than what we originally paid for him in return.

The Jackets don't have enough room for More Wingers and so are unlikely to spend assets on the RFA rights for another.

A man can dream
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dopplsan</b></div><div>I definitely think he's the strongest asset here, and I would not be upset to pass on this trade.
That being said, idk...you're looking at two guys with one breakout season to their resume. Difference is Chinny's was last season, Kaako's was two seasons ago. If Waddell thinks Kaako can find another gear in a different situation, and add a first and some lottery tickets to it, I could see the work on it.
Of course Chinny scores 30 goals playing with Panarin.</div></div>
I think putting any hope in Kakko right now as though he has value is a fool's gambit. I wouldn't pay for him for the same reason that other teams aren't going to want to pay much for Laine from us - the risks are virtually nonexistent for the team currently holding the player but not worth paying for for another team.

It's not. It's really not. And the odds of Carolina even briefly considering that are somewhere between infintesimal and nil.

Thanks for sharing; please feel free to share more after you actually bother to gather information on how he's doing here rather than making hyperbolic assumptions based on exaggerated reputations. Perhaps as a followup we can discuss Laine and you can crack a Fortnite joke and pretend you're being original and insightful.
