You can find 4th line vets for 800k on July 1 who can do as much as these two. why pay 3X when you dont have to. I wonder last summer who was bidding against Toronto for Kampf at 2.4M x3

That is terrible value for Ottawa. Buch is a pending UFA, and while Hofer is a good young goalie he does only have 38 NHL games and isn’t a bonafide starting goalie yet

Considering the fact that one of our other big options are Ullmark, I'm okay having playoff Freddie. Just gotta hope we can play well enough in front off him to offset some of the bad ones he lets in.

If there was any chance he’d do $4.5M per year for 6 years, I’d be all over it. I actually have no clue how that negotiation is gonna shake out.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tintin</b></div><div>Not that this is egregious in any way, but I don't see the point in a lot of these moves.
Equivalents to Barby and Marchment can be found in FA - lot of interesting middle 6 options this offseason.
Barby just signed one year ago, don't think Vegas are keen to move him just yet.
But If they were, the Devils should get a lot more value back if they're giving up Holtz (be it picks, prospects or one of Hague or McNabb).
Same can be said for the Marchment deal if dealing Marino, as Marino is the more valuable player between the two. There should be a pick or a prospect coming back here along with Marchment (Lundkvist maybe even).
With that said, it would it not be better to:
- Offer a bigger trade for Saros or Ullmark than picking up Andersen?
- Grab one or two UFAs to play in the middle six (Duchene, Marchessault, Foegele, Arvidsson etc)?
- Give Holtz an extended run in the top six for a real chance to finally breakout?
Really like the Domi shout for 3C though. Very talented playmaker.</div></div>
I am with you on all those…
I am just playing with various scenarios for guys that fit what Fitzy has discussed adding at forward
1. Heavier skill
2. Sill in 23-29 age group
3. Have term
4. Not core, but guys to fill out middle-six
5. Players who can be ‘momentum guys’
So have been using Barbashev, Colton, Marchment, Domi, some others in ACGMs. I don’t think Duchene, Marchessault, Arvidsson fit that criteria (although I like the first two).
As for Holtz value…I would imagine there would be a very wide set of views among GMs on him. And I lean towards keeping him…at least for his final year on ELC.
As for a goalie…I think Fitzy tries “big game hunting” and finds it to be too expensive…and ultimately settles for 10-20 goalie instead of a top-10 G.

Not disrespectful just looking for info, not the most familiar with their games</div></div>
Both are heavier complimentary pieces that can play in top-6.
Neither would be counted on for top-production.
Both can create space for more skilled guys, both can play in interior.
Both can defend. Barbashev can play center.
Barbashev is probably more physical, Marchment has more size.
Both are 40-50 pt guys
Barbashev has four years, Marchment two.
Both have limited no trade (Barbashev 8 team, Marchment 10 team)
Barbashev is a guy Fitzy has shown interest in previously.
Both fit the 'heavier skill' description.

Remove the Winnipeg 2nd. It’s probably not needed. With regards to the goalie that is going to be Michael DiPietro’s backup in Providence, it can be your choice of Daws or Schmid. Don’t really care how we replace Ken Keyser in our organization. My guess is Reid Dyck plays for Maine and replaces both eventually.

I can't see the Devils going after Markstrom at all. They'll pay what they need to pay for Saros or Ullmark, and if they can't there'll be a younger and cheaper option

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>Ullmark would be the ideal target.
Beyond that I think at a reasonable price a retained Markstrom makes sense, Gustafsson makes sense, or even a cheap guy like Georgiev or Andersen makes sense if you use the assets you save to build a quality dcore and bottom 6.
I’d even be willing to run it back with Kahkonen on a short leash with the understanding that a quick trigger will be pulled on getting a goalie if he falters</div></div>
I probably agree with that outside of the Kahkonen bit. I think Tom Fitzgerald knows he can’t stand pat at goaltender this summer. I know you’ve read my thoughts on Linus Ullmark and why I think the devils should go after him at what I think will be a depressed price. However, I wanted to vary the ACGMs up so here we go. The opinion of the roster was going to always hinge on your opinion of John Gibson.

Stop it Leafs Fans
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KrakenTheCode</b></div><div>Here's what I'll say about Järnkrok and Kämpf: neither are bad players, and their contracts aren't horrendous. The issue is that there are many comparable players available in free agency every year, and teams could simply sign one of them and not have to give up assets for similar production. If we get to late summer and into training camp and a team still has a hole in their bottom six or loses someone to injury, then maybe I could see someone throw a late round pick Toronto's way for Järnkrok or Kämpf. But not now.</div></div>
They are the type of players you trade other bottom of the lineup players for.
