Who is better
Offensively, you can’t compare Hughes to Slavin. It’s like comparing an apple to an orange. Hughes is better offensively, Slavin wins on defense. Demko is better right now, but I think PK ends up being better in the long run. Freddy gets beat here by both. Aho and EP40 are quite comparable.
Don’t let the delusions of one fan who is widely known as a troll affect your opinions on the rest of the fanbase.

Why would the Canes do this? A drastic overpayment for an aging goalie

Terrible for the Canes. Markstrom isn’t worth moving a top 6 winger for, let alone adding a top prospect to. And Mang just straight up isn’t worth it. Canes could get the same impact from a guy like Reilly Smith, and the cost to acquire and the cap hit would be much lower.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jets12Kozy</b></div><div>Try reading, compare both of their first five full NHL seasons Necas was injured more, and I have no interest in Necas idc</div></div>
And where are you seeing that Necas was injured in those seasons? 2017-2019 he played a total of & games with the Canes, as he spent the majority of that time either in the Czech leagues or in the AHL. 19-20 was the Covid shortened season, and Necas missed maybe 4-5 games. 20-21 was the re-aligned season, in which Necas only missed 3 games. And over the last 3 seasons, 21-24, he has only missed 9 total games.

And yet Ehlers, in the same timeframe, has missed over a full regular season’s worth of games.

If Maata is coming with half retention, he would be a good stopgap until Nikishin arrives. That being said, a 2nd is a bit rich for Maata. Maata half retained for a 3rd I think the Canes would probably do, if there isn’t a 3LD stopgap on the market that they like.

Canes pass. The 1st will be meh, Canes don’t need another expensive LHD, and Moore is a 3rd liner. The 2 prospects, I don’t know much about, but I don’t think they hold that much value. A lot of stuff the Canes don’t need or want isn’t getting Necas.

Draft Day Trade CAR-SJS
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mr_Miraculous</b></div><div>Because that's the cost of doing business if the Canes are going to keep Necas, Jarvis, Suzuki, Drury, and 1 or 2 of their impending UFAs.
Also, if San Jose decided to do a buyout, while the cost would only be a little over $800k per year, the term of the inexpensive 1/3 buyout (Player Under 25) is still rather long.</div></div>
Or, they keep their 1st, and eat the buyout penalty themselves. Like you said, it’s really cheap. 800k penalty, granted over 12 years, isn’t worth moving a 1st for.

Because the Kraken aren’t moving Wright, and the Canes aren’t moving Necas to Seattle without a quality piece coming back.

Something interesting
Canes weren’t willing to deal Necas for Laine when he was still with the Jets. Now that Laine can’t even stay in the lineup, why would the Canes suddenly change their mind?

Ullmark to Carolina
Canes counter with Poitras, Carlo, and a pick for Andersen. Goalies don’t have that level of value, and for one whose only significant upgradable quality over Andersen is his health, no team is giving up a young top 6 winger for a goalie who trends in the middle of the pack.

Assuming Zibanejad waives, the Canes should do that. Sure, the back end of his deal will hurt, but the immediate benefits should be good for both teams.
