Hronek for Sergachev Kaprizov Ekblad
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>I understand what you are trying to do here but it's completely irrational. Your math is based on the 11th most productive player from each of those draft years. For example you mentioned Kaprizov who is currently 11th in total points from the 2015 draft, yet chose to ignore that he has played at least 220 less games than the 10 players above him. In pts/g Kaprizov ranks 2nd from that draft class only behind McDavid. This way of thinking also only values points which heavily favors forwards</div></div>
Yes. By productive, I meant: most points. Maybe I should have just wrote "most points" instead. I did not pick the 11th best players from each of the 2014-16 drafts, because not everyone can agree on that. What everyone can agree on is that Sergachev, Kaprizov, and Ekblad have gotten the 11th most points from each of their drafts.

Based on the VAN-DET Hronek trade, Hronek is worth the 11th overall pick in the draft. The 11th overall pick in this year's draft is Buffalo's pick. So BUF 2024 1st round pick for Hronek would be a fair trade (similar value).

Keeping Hronek and Mikheyev
"Would prefer to move Mikheyev but Allvin made it sound like he’s gonna be here next year"
I agree with this.
The more I think about it, I don't know if the Canucks should trade a 2nd just to trade away Mikheyev, we already spent a 1st and a 2nd in this year's draft. I wonder if Mikheyev can improve his value next year and then maybe we can trade him easier.

Yeah I purposely put more assets in than I felt comfortable, just trying to gauge the price for Buch. What do you think he's worth?

2024-25 Canucks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>alwaysnextyear</b></div><div>Solid description and well thought out!
My overall caveat to it is that although the playoffs are a very small sample size and don't usually affect contract negotiations too much, they do offer a window into player strengths and weaknesses when the intensity, physicality and pressure really ramp up.
For example, what you wrote about both Hronek and Zadorov is true during the regular season, but their deployment and effectiveness has changed in the post-season (especially Zadorov). Technically he's still being used as a 3LD at 5v5, but he's been used heavily on the PK and has even taken shifts with Hughes. I've written previous ACGM's stating that Hughes could easily be our top pair RD if he had the right partner to support him, and Zadorov could possibly be that guy. I'm still in favour of signing Tanev for a couple years too, but failing that I think using Hughes on the right side should seriously be considered.
Having said that, Hronek is still a good Dman and I hope the team re-signs him to a reasonable deal. 8 mill AAV was never going to fly with management, so his drop in offensive stats in the later part of the regular season and into the playoffs may actually help the team's case in getting him signed at a more reasonable number.
Ideally both guys stay. They bring different skill sets but are both important to the team's potential success.</div></div>
Good point about playoff deployment! I would also love to be able to keep both of them.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DFinn91</b></div><div>That literally makes no sense. If a player’s production is worth $8M, but his cap hit is $9M, he has -$1M of value.
The Athletic’s model has Mikheyev’s production worth $3.6M which means he has -$1.2M of value. There’s no reason for the Sharks to take that negative value for free.</div></div>
Does that mean a player worth $5M getting paid $5M has zero value? Wouldn't that mean teams could trade nothing for a free asset???

How overpaid do you think he is? I don't think all players who are overpaid have negative value. For example, if a player is worth $8M but gets paid $9M, I think he could still have positive value.

Yes, if Dakota wants to play there. Mikheyev has good Corsi but his finishing is subpar. Last year he was on pace for 50 pts. He can also PK. I don't think he has no value.

The 3rd we got from Washington, so it’s 1st + 2nd + 4th + Kuzmenko for Vatrano & Monahan. But I agree in that I don’t like giving up that much, either.
If we win the Cup though (fingers crossed), our 1st round pick will be 32nd overall, 2nd will be 64th overall. I look at it as a 2nd + 3rd + 4th + Kuz for Vatrano & Monahan.
I also think we need to dump some salary in order to sign Petey and Hronek in the offseason.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jim_Benning_Almost</b></div><div>I've seen this a few times in Canuck ACGMs, and I have a legit question. How do any of you justify giving Hoglander - an AHL player, and not even a 'point per game' one - over $1M per season? Even on a two year deal.</div></div>
I used Evolving Hockey's Projected Cap Hit for Hoglander's contract from this article: https://www.vancouverisawesome.com/canucks-hockey/should-the-canucks-bet-on-nils-hoglander-with-a-long-term-deal-7074142 . Hoglander got 27 points in 56 games in the NHL two seasons ago during his rookie year and was Abbotsford's leading scorer during the playoffs this year. He wasn't great in Vancouver this year but I think there's still potential for him to become a better player.
