Okay, that's more reasonable. Sorry, I thought you meant he was worth *only* a 1st which was a bad look. A 1st, 2nd and something like Zadina is definitely in the right area, but something like Bordeleau would probably be wanted by Carolina, perhaps in place of Zadina. Or maybe Bordeleau and Kunin instead of Zadina.</div></div>
Oh no i see the miscommunication, my fault. I think Jarvis is getting 8+ this year based on what I’ve been seeing / reading

Genuinely you are proving my point. The return for fíala was number 19 (vegas finished 19 this year) and Faber (who was pick 45 (thats in the second round)). When faber was traded he was not considered to be a #1 dman, several reports from that year had him as a B+ prospect. So thank you

Either pay, or you don't get a Necas. This is an AWFUL proposal, and the fact you keep defending it says a lot about you. He's worth more than 1st, and considerably more than a 1st</div></div>
Except that Guentzel and Jarvis get a combined 17mil +. And i agree he is worth more than a first… a first and a second and maybe someone like zadina as a sweetner

24/25 is the next season its not a year away and this year vegas finished at 19 and they have to get under the cap. That pick could be anywhere from 16-23 realistically.

A first + the cap dump in the value of a second is enough for Necas. 1 + 2 in picks is good value but im sure canes dont want futures.

But most of our core is set and we just have to fill various holes, most of which wouldn’t require a top-10 pick to fill. So by trading down, it’s like breaking a $100 for five $20s. Then can spend the various pieces plugging holes to fill out roster.</div></div>
Interesting, however I imagine the sharks would be trading up for Parekh or Buium or Dickinson so maybe there is a little issue lol

Would the devils be interested in a deal like this? It seems to me they would want to get a player who is ready sooner, or would they be looking to “restock” the prospect cupboards for sustained success?

Any Detroit fan can tell you that's bat**** insane. Yeah, it's one example, but I very much doubt it's the only one.</div></div>
Well again you’ve cited a perfect example of why statistical modeling should only be used as a supplementary tool. Every hockey fan can tell you who is the better player. But in taking to account use, teammates, who they are deployed against, team goal tending, all are pieces to the puzzle. So again there is only a problem if your using the model as the be all end all. There are several models out there that would also tell you seider is under performing and there was a whole news cycle to determine why and what the context of his numbers were. Does not change the fact that Gallagher should be an expensive cap dump. The model was only one part of my reasoning. If you just TLDR’d the rest then essentially it was in his best statistical season in five years combined with him playing the most game he has played in while, he is still well short of being worth his contract and has an extra year. Going to a worse team there is no reason to expect him to rebound.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DanielSan92</b></div><div>Citing Athletic player cards is probably not a good idea…</div></div>
I disagree, it depends on how you use them. Statistical modeling, and statistics in general are always meant to be used as a supplemental tool, and nothing more. So while I am using it in part to develop a point. In this case it is to show that from what we can measure through statistics, Gallagher is a player who is not worth his contract. This is backed up by his lack of production relative to his contract and the amount of games he has missed in the past five seasons. His outlier of a season this year would not do much to improve his value, and the sharks will not likely get anything from him in terms of being a flipable asset. Then in the least reliable indication of player impact we may look at public opinion, in which Canadiens fans typically value Gallagher quite a bit higher than fans from the rest of the league. This would indicate one of two things; that Gallagher is a better player than the rest of the league thinks, or that Canadiens fans are falling victim to a little bit of homerism.

At this current moment he is a 2 million ish player (according to athletic player card contract values) but at most would be a three milllion dollar player. He did get 31 points last year but I dont see why / how he could repeat that on the sharks. I would want a second or pick + mid prospect for a 2-3 million x 2 year cap dump effectively.

Something I seen today
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jberney1</b></div><div>SJ is getting the best player in the trade that was coming off a high ankle sprain and wasn’t fully recovered yet… he gives Celibrini an established winger and bolsters SJ offence automatically… he has more points in the playoffs then any of the big 4 in Toronto.. SJ is also getting a first round pick in Liligren that has upside along with Robertson who in the right situation will show great upside given the opportunity to play everyday. A situation like SJ is perfect for Marner..low media pressure which is something he needs..
he only has to be rental if SJ allows him to be… or he can be a trade chip come the trade deadline that allows San Jose to continue to build for the future…</div></div>
Even as a trade chip he’s not that valuable to the sharks. We have no retention slots and he has an NMC. This deal when context is removed is a good idea but its far too risk for the sharks.

Im of the opposite opinion of these two a 4th for orlov seems exactly like the type of deal we should do to get that stop gap guy who can moonlight as a top pair d while our prospects develop. We give away a replaceable pick and help reaching cap floor while settling a major a roster need + carolina gets to keep their mans and the necessary cap space.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SimonSelaars3</b></div><div>I agree. I have no idea what is going to happen with all the Rossi talk, much less what player would be coming back but I like the idea of the Wild getting bigger on defense and I also like a 1-2 punch of Celebrini and Rossi down the middle for SJ, that’d be fun to watch.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kohnsharkosz</b></div><div>And bigger is definitely what Grier is pushing for defensively as well. Also keep in mind that a year ago SJ drafted C Will Smith at #4 over all. So the center 1-2 punch is kind of already in the bank. Not to say someone can't move to wing. Yeah, the more I think about it the less I think Grier bites on it.</div></div>
The value is good, but Muk is the only defenseman that we have in the pool that has a chance at developing beyond the middle pair (#2 ceiling but that seems to be a minority opinion for scouts). Rossi is great but Sharks have that center depth established now. I would do Thrun or/and Thompson + a high pick but idk how much that helps the wild

He could still have a shot, but his game still needs to round out quite a bit.
