Description
With having Parise and Suter counting on your salary cap for over 12 million $ for not playing over the next 3 years, Minnesota are in trouble. They will need to do some cap gymnastics for the next few years.

That's why I started by trading Dmitri Kulikov. Yes, he was good for the Wild this year, but he's getting up there in age and it's 2 million $ that can be used somewhere else in the roster.

After that, I decided to trade Cam Talbot to the Leafs for Alex Kerfoot. I preder to have MAF over Talbot for Minnesota and by having the luxury of having Wallstedt on the roster, he can have a few good years to learn behind Fleury and be the #1 goalie for the Wild in the near future. Acquiring Kerfoot in the deal gives you depth in the centre position and give less pressure on kids like Rossi on the roster. He can also play on the 3rd line if Rossi ever gets better.

A deal that can be a head scratcher but I think it could help both teams. Having Greenway's contract in this lineup is kind of a problem. It's a big contract for the Wild short term. By trading him to Montreal, it gives a change of scenery for both players and a need for both teams. Greenway makes the Canadiens bigger. While for the Wild, Drouin brings them a scoring touch to add to Kaprizov, Boldy and Rossi. I think Drouin just needs to get out of the bright lights of Montreal to get him going again.

Trading Hartman was hard, but for the long term plan, his contract off the books will help the Wild. Trading him to the Eastern Conference for a draft pick helps them to get more draft capita.

What do you guys think?

Don’t think Toronto will have any interest in that trade

I don’t think I would pull the trigger on any of these trades from a Minnesota POV.

Hartman easily pulls a 1st. 30+ goal scorer with two more years at $1.7M. Zero reason to trade him.

I don’t think Hartman would get a 1st bc he hasn’t even come close to doing anything like this yet in his career
And in his previous 4 years, the most goals he had was 12
No one is gonna pay up for him unless he does it again
So it’s probably batter for u guy to hang on to him & then look to get that 1st next offseason

Sabres would take that risk imo
But u might wanna try to pry a guy like Mittelstadt from us instead of the draft pick
It would work on here, but in reality idk

U shouldn’t trade Hartman now though
Wait till next offseason- if he has another good year, u can get a better return for him than u can now

You're right, I did forget about Fiala ahaha. In that case, I would do a sign and trade, even though it's more rare in the NHL

Instead of that Greenway to Montreal, what would it take to put Buffalo there instead.

I'd honestly be quite interested considering talbot has starting experience and isn't too expensive.

The only thing he provides is that he’s tough
He just isn’t a very productive hockey player though

What’s to like?
His skating? Nope
His goal scoring ability? Nope
His playmaking skills? Nope
His defense? Nope

What makes u actually like the guy?

I'm confused as to why you're confused. He's a fine third line quality player.

Sure, he’s “fine” (not “good”)
And yes, he’s a “3rd line player” (without upside to be more)

Not what I’m looking to trade assets for

Okay cool. Then say that instead of getting on a soap box about how there's nothing to like about him. It's very apparent just based on that one post that you haven't actually watched him enough to have an opinion on what he brings, so just say that, and say you don't want him. Don't try to be an expert on him when you clearly aren't.

Plenty of people (fans, GM's alike) would love him on their team for exactly what he is. You're mad that he isn't what he could be.

Good on the PK, brings sandpaper. And he's Averaged over 20 assists a year the last 3yrs. He would add something the Sabres are missing.

He’s “fine”
We should be aiming higher than “fine”
Bad idea, hard pass
He’s not even consistently “tough”

You need glue guys on your team. He fits something this team needs. Everyone has different opinions on what is needed.

I don’t disagree that we could use some grit or sandpaper or whatever u wanna call it
But we need to get more guys that are good at hockey, and bring the physical
For example, from Minny, give me Foligno back
He brings toughness AND can actually play
That’s the kind of guys we need
