I love this for the Devils.
Smith's play last season give big cause for concern, being able to turn him into John Marino is a major coup.
I suppose Hextall really needed Smith's ELC and also banking on that Sullivan can elevate his game.

Not a fan of this

While I know under the Pitt system Smith probs gonna become way better like what happened with Matheson. That said Marino incorporated everything you wanted in a RD and was still very young.

Also makes the Pickering pick make even less sense

Guess I'll get destroyed today for this trade, but in 3 years time people will be praising me for being able to see what Ty Smith will become.

I think this is a Huge W for Pittsburgh, not only are they saving 3.5 Million in Cap Space for the short future, they also get the better player LONG TERM.

This is insanely risky for PIT given how awful Smith was last year. But it could pay off, which would push this into "fair deal" territory.

Probably hits the free agent market. Nemec won't be far off of the NHL imo, and Dougie and Marino have term.

I mean, fair trade ig, Smith will probably end up being better in the future... but who knows

Looks like a steal for Jersey on the surface, but this is the organization that fixed guys like Justin Schultz and Mike Matheson. I think Pittsburgh will be okay, but it’s definitely risky

There's no way he doesnt have value around the league. Sens fans have been clamouring for a top 4RD trade and he was held in similar regard to Weegar/Chychrun. I refuse to believe this is the best that Pittsburgh could get for him. Has to be something else at play.
