Description
Really not a Fan of PLD, but Markstrom is likely on his way out and may be agreeable to going to LAK this time, so making a French line for Huberdeau, which includes Speedy Duclair, who he’s proven to have had chemistry with already

I like Ryan Graves and think he would be a good fit on the Flames as a Big Penalty Killing D-Man to replace the lost size in Zadorov, but who can also contribute offense as well

Let’s give Calgary Born and Former Hitmen Jake Bean a chance to make the Team. He’d be good insurance & competiton for Kylington and can play both sides

Bringing back Big Save Dave as a Mentor for Wolf and/or competition for fellow Czech Vladar

Love Pospisil, but he’s really a Bottom-6 Player. Let’s see what he does at Centre with Offensive Wingers in Pelletier & Coronato and Physical Wingers in Greer & Hunt/Klapka/Schwindt

It’ll be a tough call between whether to Waive Hunt & Schwindt, but Klapka is still Waivers Exempt, so can be protected. 7th D-Man either be Bean, Pachal or Solovyov

Plenty of Cap Space remains to make moves. Another Big Shut Down Penalty Killing 3RD would be ideal, but I’m still curious about Bean and Pachal did a decent job, so start with them for now. Would love Tanev to return but that’s doubtful. Another 3RD target could be Jani Hakanpaa

Right, I don’t particularly care for his laziness and entitlement either, but a Big Skilled Physical Centre like Huberdeau had in Barkov and Bennett with a Speedy Winger like Duclair would probably do him wonders. I’d love to see Pospisil on a line with Huberdeau, but don’t think he brings enough finishing skill

I would rather just acquire futures and keep Zary at center. He looked really good there and his playstyle is very similar to guys like Trocheck and Bennett

Sure, but Zary lacks Physicality by comparison

I was thinking of putting Zary at 3C and moving Backlund down to 4C and rolling the lines, but figured Zary deserves to be in the Top-6

Sure but Bennett's physicality was not what made him mesh with Huberdeau. It was his ability to carry the puck up ice and break out of the zone.

Bennett’s Physicality created more space for his wingers too

I guess, but it also often took himself out of the play in the process. I would just stick with Huberdeau - Zary - Sharangovich for next season. I think both of those players pair very well with Huberdeau

Why do you have Pittsburgh getting assets for dumping a contract? With all that term left on his contract Calgary would want retention on Graves to take him even just for future considerations.

I'd rather keep Sharky. Make it Markstrom + Mangi with retention on Mangi. Probably need to remove Pinelli too for LA to consider it.

Meh, I think Graves is worth what Zadorov fetched, especially given he has term, but I’d be happy to pay less for sure

Yeah that works too. I just started with Markstrom and added another decent piece to entice LAK, but then figured we needed a prospect back if we were parting with Sharky. I guess I was thinking if we couldn’t get a favourable extension done with Sharangovich, we’d move him in a Trade for a Big & Skilled Physical Centre

The problem with Graves' contract is he has too much term. 2 years would ideal, 3 would be ok, 5 is 2 years too long.

And yeah if we can't get Sharky extended without overpaying then we should trade him but that's a decision that should be deferred until sometime next year... Unless of course we get a terrific offer for him now.

Pretty sure Bean gets qualified regardless. We might end up losing him on waivers shortly thereafter anyways or some similar silly scenario, but I don't think he'll be allowed to walk.

Graves will only be 33 going on 34 when his contract expires. His Term is a non issue and he’s a Tradeable Asset AFAIC. He’s a Good Big Rugged Defensemen, something we need
