Swap of overpaid dudes
Calgary would probably do this without the retention because a younger top 6 center is a big need right now but LA wouldn't do it. Retention is a deal breaker no team is going to retain for 7 years.
It'd make a whole lot more sense to make a trade that gets Huberdeau and PLD playing together. There's a good chance they're each what the other one needs to get his game going again. Two big French guys one a physical center the other a playmaking winger add a speedy goal scorer on the other wing and besides the French part it sounds like Huberdeau's old line in Florida during the 115 point season.

Hard NO from Calgary. Huberdeau can still rebound we just need to find a physical center who goes to the net to play with him and a speedy winger.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>To be fair, I'd take the Tavares deal for Columbus. The rest I don't actually have the authority to speak on.
I know it's extremely unlikely Calgary moves Andersson, and it's more likely he's the next captain...but on the 10% chance Calgary does decide to move him eventually, what would you want/expect a return to look like? That's the one I struggled with the most. I'd assume 1st, top prospect, replacement NHLer, and more picks to balance at a minimum?</div></div>
Yeah the Tavares flip could be an option but it's a moot point since Tavares won't waive anyhow.
I'd say there's a better than 10% chance Calgary could move Andersson but it'll take a very good offer to move him before the last year of his contract which is the season after next. But what you proposed is way low.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bast</b></div><div>I think it's about right value wise.
I value Andersson - 1st(mid) + 2 x 2nds
Sharangovich - 1st(high) + 2nd
We get 2 1sts in Kulich + 1st(11th)
Samuelson is probably worth a 2nd
Strbak is another 2nd.
And you add a 2nd.
For me it works, but I don't have any Intel on either prospect.
Edit: after looking up the prospects I like this trade for the Flames quite a bit.</div></div>
Kulich - a left shot winger we need another of those like we need a hole in the head.
Strback - a defensive prospect exactly what Conroy stocked up big on this past season.
I looked them up earlier too. They're just more of what we already have on the farm.
Samuelsson - Like I said I'm not sure about Samuelsson. That's a pretty long contract they'd have to really like him and I don't know if they like him at all.
Don't forget it's a retool not a rebuild. Conroy won't just be dumping all his best players for picks and prospects.

Marner trades 1 of 3
The big question is what makes you think Conroy wants to get fired? That's exactly what would happen if he even considered doing something half as stupid as this.

Calgary declines. The picks would be a good start for Andersson alone but the prospects are underwhelming. Not sure if the Flames would want Samuelsson or not.

Sure that explains why you Habs fans want him so bad and keep posting these absurdly bad trades. Not even Bonehead Brad would be dumb enough to retain salary for 7 years.

You Habs fans aren't fooling anyone. You aren't dealing with Bonehead Brad in Calgary anymore so you won't be robbing Calgary in a Huberdeau deal like you did with Monahan.

Remove Coleman + Andersson and Calgary accepts. You're dreaming if you think Calgary would trade either one for 1 year of a grossly overpaid soft perimeter passer they have no use for other than to flip him at the deadline.
Nobody will be giving you 2nd for Lily either.

Ylonen has no trade value, he's UFA so anyone who wants him can just sign him. Calgary has no use for Barron or Harris either remove both of them, remove the retention on Huberdeau plus remove the Calgary 2nd and the Flames might do it.
As for retention just forget about it. There's no way the Flames consider retaining anything on a contract with 7 years left. Not even 1 dollar since that would lock up a valuable retention slot for 7 years.

Marner
If Dubas was dumb enough to offer that and Marner willing to waive Toronto would have to be stupid not to do it... But then again Blundering Brad is GM in Toronto now so who knows what boneheaded move he'll make next?
Don't forget one of the reasons Dubas left Toronto and probably the biggest reason was upper management/ownership wouldn't let him break up the core 4. And guess which one of the 4 he most likely wanted to move? BB has a long history of hanging onto the wrong players for too long and losing them for nothing / next to nothing in the end.

Wrong, Andersson and Markstrom each easily fetch more than Marner. It'd be sheer stupidity to trade both of them for Marner. Marner is pretty much worthless without retention or an extension. With 50% retention he's a rental worth a late 1st + a 2nd/3rd/B prospect. It might even take double retention for a team that's interested to fit his cap hit in and that'll cost extra.

Toronto's rejects aren't going to fetch a top pairing D. Toronto really doesn't have much that Calgary would consider trading Andersson for. Assuming Matthews and Nylander would be off the table a package including Reilly or a package starting with Knies and a 2024 1st is about it.

Playoffs next year maybe
That's not an overpay for Andersson, in fact it's a real lowball offer for 2 Flames players and a bit low for just Andersson. A slight overpay for Andersson would be Detroit's 2024 1st + 2025 1st.
