How is getting someone to pay for your overpaid crappy backup, "weaponizing cap space"?

I'm guessing he was referring to the Pens trade

Sure, but why do other teams have to pay to dump bad salary, and Calgary gets a draft pick to get rid of theirs?

Fair enough, we don't need the cap space though, so I'd imagine he just goes on waivers if he's not part of the plan.

It’s also just a crappy 2025-4th Round Pick…

What are you so upset about!? Vladar’s underrated, let’s see how he does when he’s back playing healthy again

Not upset, just pointing out that it's not very realistic.

At $1M, Vladar is a solid option because you can bury him in the AHL if necessary.

At $2.2M, he's a liability. More likely he goes on waivers and Calgary has to eat the $1M in dead cap space while he plays for the Wranglers.

Hopefully he just gets healthy, rebounds and increases his value, otherwise your scenario could certainly come true. Fortunately the Flames should have no issue affording it

Calgary shouldn't consider taking on Graves' contract (5 years left) unless he comes with 20-25% retention. That contract is either too much money or about 2 years too long (take your pick) to fit Calgary's future needs.

I'd rather offer Tanev 2 years at 4.5 mil/yr than take on 5 years of Graves at the same cap hit.

Draft picks going the wrong way on that Graves trade. Penguins not paying someone to take them. Hell they aren't even going to move him.
