I think it’s probably hard to get both Zegras and 3rd overall in same trade without giving up a top young asset. The Winnipeg 1st may enough for the jump from #5 to #3…but the rest won’t return Zegras.

I would try building something around:

MTL gives: #5 overall
ANA gives: Zegras, #24 overall, #59 overall

Puckpedia calculator suggests that would put Zegras implied value similar to a #11 or #12 overall pick.

But then you need to add value for Anaheim to want to sell him

5th overall

Top-10 picks rarely get moved. Top-5 picks pretty much never do. I think the last may have been the puck used to select Luke Schenn.

ANA will be wise to move back to 5th if Chicago pick Levshunov and 5th plus barron even if it seems underwhelming, they'll stll have one of the top defenseman in the class at 5th and i don't think utah will offer anything better than this either and after the 6th you definitely ain't getting the defenseman you really want (i think utah will pick a defenseman as well probablyl)

I dont think that will do something for montreal unless like the dach trade it's 2 trades at once where they somehow trade the 27th and 24th plus a prospect for a top 12 pick

1) Zegras would be the prize.
2) as Devils fan, I would move #10 for three good assets. We have holes to fill…and multiple pieces to might be easier (like changing $100 for five $20).

I certainly see a world where we trade down from 3 if Levshunov is gone but I also can see Verbeek saying F it and taking his guy anyways

There is no shot we trade Zegras in a trade DOWN though

Mesar and fifth overall get you the third overall.

The Winnipeg first and fifth overall get you the third overall and the Boston 2024 second.

Both of these presume that Chicago selects Levshunov at #2.

If they don't, and Anaheim wants to trade Zegras (highly doubtful), @NHLfan10506's formulation works: Zegras plus the Edmonton 2024 first plus the Boston 2024 second for fifth overall.

I don't see any realistic formulation of assets you'd be willing to give up for Zegras AND a move from fifth overall to third overall unless it would be Mesar, Reinbacher and both of your next two firsts, with very little or no protection on the 2025 pick.

lol you’re pipe dreaming trying to slip Zegras in. He’s not on the table, especially for that package.

Simplify to 3rd overall for 5th and something like the WPG pick, and that’s about the right value

The rest of that ‘meh’ doesn’t come close to Zegras

So let's say montreal trades 5th OA for a package containing zegras and the 24th pick obviously with a 2nd trade pending with NJD) what will it look like on top of the 24th and the jets pick ? What piece will intrest you

I think that pick would be moved for a good young player...Guhle, Dach, etc.

Or package of picks/players if we can turn the picks into other pieces (ie, flip a late 1st or 2nd for a goalie).

Well, montreal wont trade young roster players because they want to compete next year but they can move picks or older roster players even if they're helping them now because they want to create room for young prospect

I think it would have to be players with term, favorable contracts...and that fill a need

Unfortunately montreal don't really have those (only one i can think of with good term is Montenbeault) we have Matheson but if you want term its a problem
