Aidan McDonough Scouting Reports

Not much has changed with McDonough. He continues to play to his identity, offensively, at the college level. He's a goal scorer / leaning power-play specialist who scores nearly half of his goals with the man advantage. He isn't a burner between the blue lines / in transition. His best work comes in the offensive zone after his line mates have gained access and established control. McDonough has good size. He can shield pucks from opponents with his long reach. His three zone detail ranges but is not an area of extreme concern. His skating is definitely what will hold him back from playing to his identity as a pro. He needs to get more speed in his game.

Continues to play to his identity. A goal scorer at the college level.
Around 50% of his goals come on the power play.
Excellent release coming off his weak side flank and getting pucks to the net on his forehand.
Majority of his TOI comes at ES and on PP#1. Rarely used on the PK.
Skating needs to improve for the speed of the NHL game. Straight lines and agility is slightly above average. First three steps are low end of average.

AVG TOI (17:05) at ES and PP. A threat to score on the PP by setting up back door for one timers and also planting himself out front opponents net for tips and rebounds. Quick stick. Doesn't need a lot of time or space to get his shot off. His defensive game is high end of average. His element is offense. Off the rush he isn't shy about directing pucks on goal. More strength required. His skating, overall, has room to improve. Fantastic goal scoring year overall. It will take time. Needs to start in the AHL.

No issues with his overall IQ and detail
Skating holds him back. If his quickness, separation, and agility improve he has a chance to be an NHL player
