Big Mac is only 30, is a solid physical presence, can play forward and defense, and is a solid veteran to keep around. Fully buriable cap hit, so this is really not a huge deal.
Good signing

Looks like Rempe insurance lol. Also maximum cap hit for burying him in the minors without getting a cap penalty.

It’s perfect.
Low enough there is no buried salary cost
High enough no one will claim him on waivers

I'd say NSH takes that deal, but swap the 2nd from NSH's to WPG's 2nd this year.

How would you make a Mitch Marner Juuse Saros swap more fair
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>WN88</b></div><div>Why would NSH not be interested in trading Saros? You're going to have to pay him a massive raise into his 30s (likely won't age well). Not to mention, you don't even have to solve or worry about goaltending with or without him for the next decade. If you want to run Askarov/Saros for the next 8 years, go for it. Not sure how you'd afford it though.
Making Saros expendable opens up so many possibilities for short and long-term improvement on your team. And you get out of paying him what would be, in my opinion, a very bad contract. Plus, you guys get to keep your late firsts and B/C-level prospects.</div></div>
We're not going to have to do anything. We can run both goaltenders for the year, or at least until the TDL. Mentoring Askarov with his fulltime transition to the NHL is also something of value for Nashville. Never have I mentioned signing both long term.
1sts are great, icing a competitive team is better. We made playoffs this year, by making additions to the roster and avoiding major subtractions (such as trading away our elite goaltending) we will be in a much better position next year. Would have to imagine the plan would be to make a push while Forsberg/Josi/ROR are still competitive and productive.

It will be a "we're keeping both" scenario. There's plenty of value in the pieces I listed to get the deal done for both sides.

Rather give up saros. Nashville is no position to give up thrleit top prospects

O’Reilly almost made forsberg a 50 goal scorer. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t intrigued but it will depend on the package and contract

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AK50</b></div><div>I'd steer clear of Marner for Saros. We need a #1 center and Marner isn't that. However, if Marner signs an extension under 10 mil, I'd consider if he comes with a 1st and Minten and NSH gives back Pars and Del Gaizo.
I'd keep both. It'd be a fantastic tandem.</div></div>
Problem with keeping both is their ages and contracts don’t mesh well like Rinne and saros’s did. You sign saros to 8 years and you’re blocking askarov till 30 to become a starter because you don’t want to pay for a 8 million dollar back up

I would start with removing Saros and including pieces Nashville would be interested in trading.
I understand Toronto is foaming at the mouth for a goaltender, Nashville has lots of futures to offer up for a guy like Marner and maybe even JT and they can dangle those for a goaltender from someone else.
2025 draft picks (Toronto is going to have to pay that signing bonus), Schaefer, Wood, Parssinen, Glass, Lauzon, Lind, Prokop, Tomasino. Make yourself a package and go from there.

It’s not…the worst Marner trade I’ve seen for CBJ (and there have been…so, so, many)?
But im still leery. Marner would be an immediate upgrade on KJ, sure, but I’m not fully sold on him getting the kind of contract he’s going to demand unless he’s going to an established place. He might elevate Fantilli, but he’s not producing 90+ points if he’s not getting passes from Matthews or Tavares. Jarmo was infamous for making these kind of win-now moves, and save for Panarin, they largely back-fired.
Though the reality of it is still he has a full NMC, and that is likely to be a tiny list of, one which I doubt has CBJ, otherwise has very few bidders, and is likely going to lead to an underwhelming return.

Of course it's a good signing. Even if waived and clears, he doesn't affect the cap. Riitch's minor league contract is for 1m also.. Good for Riitch.
I wonder if the Kings want to have Portillo promoted to the NHL next October.

Doubt CBJ is willing to give up on Johnson this early, unless it's a Dach type exchange.
Individually speaking Novak is probably the best player in this exchange, but his potential is not even close to that off Johnson's. I dunno if Tomasino is enough to sway their opinion otherwise.

Big offseason
Winnipeg is not going to consider that offer.
If you switch that 3rd to Buffalo's 1st in 2024 and keep Östlund the value may be there for Winnipeg to consider.
It still doesn't make sense for the Jet's timeline though .
Switch Östlund for JJ Peterka, the Jets should consider, but the Sabres should not even offer that.
Therefore these two teams would not be ideal trade partners for a trade surrounding Ehlers. (Honestly, Ehlers is basically untouchable, unless a ridiculous overpay comes along.)

He's already signed for an 8 year extension.
Not enough value coming back from Nashville for that trade, and I'm a fan of Tomasino.
