The Sabres have prospects that have came up and are coming up from Rochester. Having the right mix of veteran players and youth playing the right hockey within the salary cap is the goal. Move a player with no conditions for better talent and cap space.

That is a bad trade idea. If Toronto was desperate, Mathews and Nylander would be added with full retention.

The Sabres have a quantity of decent forward prospects. If some can be flipped for a right shot defensive defenseman, the Sabres will be open for business.

The contract is completely fine, could even be good, if he's healthy and I think there's a good chance it ages well as long as that is the case. I also like Johnson and think that he could be a very cost effective replacement for somebody on the back end when a bunch of forwards need new contracts. It'll be interesting to see how they juggle it all</div></div>
Samuelsson needs to prove himself in the 2024-2025 season. First, he needs to stay healthy. Spending too much time on the injured list is bad. Second, Samuelsson needs to play like a top four defenseman. If he falters, then shop him and play Johnson. Teams looking for depth defensemen with term and less conditions will kick the wheels on Samuelsson.

Compare Jarry and Gibson. Jarry has four years remaining and a lower AAV. Gibson has three years remaining and a higher AAV.
Which team wants fewer problems with goaltending and contracts for the 2027-2028 season?

Eller could be useful to the Sabres. The Sabres need to upgrade their bottom lines. Eller could fill a need on the fourth line. The Sabres could offer a third round pick and a roster player for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Gibson and Jarry's statistics would be better if the skaters in front of them improved on clearing the puck out of the defense zone.

Skinner has a $9 million AAV for the next three seasons. Nine million per season will be typical for an elite top line forward. (Think Jake Guentzel and Sam Reinhart.) If the Sabres cannot address their need for another top six forward this offseason, it makes sense to retain Skinner. Skinner will benefit from better coaching under Lindy Ruff and increased point production not seen in recent seasons.

If the Flyers want Skinner, they need to pay the price. If they cannot pay the price, then they cannot buy him.
The Sabres do not have a need to trade Skinner. Skinner remains necessary for first and second line scoring. If the Sabres find an immediate upgrade than Skinner, then discussions could be had.

Moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sabres89</b></div><div>The irony to me is that if I had to pick one moment where the franchise went off the rails, it was when lucic absolutely destroyed ryan Miller on an open ice hit, and not a soul stood up for the 160 pound goalie. Lucic had a good laugh about it after the game, said that if something like that happened to the Bruins, the response would have been VERY different. Eventually the Sabres started dressing 6'8" face puncher Jon Scott, but that doesn't really add credibility. Tim Murray took a shot by going after guys like Evander Kane and Zach bogosian- these are top of the lineup players with both skill and toughness. Unfortunately it didn't work, eventually Murray got fired, and nobody since has even pretended that you need some skill with physicality. At this point, I feel like I'm yelling at clouds. Maybe someday the Sabres will make the playoffs and catch a beating from a bigger more physical team, and then they will decide to prioritize that, but for now, it seems like there's lots of fans that think the Sabres are gonna roll 3 scoring lines and win games in shootouts.</div></div>
Kane and Bogosian did not work well for Buffalo. Kane did not produce. Bogosian became toxicity. A benefit of that trade was shipping out another toxicity - Stafford.

Pittsburgh Penguins: 2024-2025 - Needs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lynxzxz</b></div><div>Totally agree with all your points, I do however see the Pens running into an issue with finding an adequate replacement for Jake. The only guy on the free agency market who could fit the bill would be Reinhart and signing him would cost at least $9 mill. I think the Pens most pressing needs are to get younger but I believe they'll find more value in acquiring cheap, young guys who have not realized their potential (i.e. a Kaapo Kakko, Alex Holtz?). The Pens should also do everything in their power to dump Smith and Graves (especially the latter).</div></div>
The Penguins cannot cruise through the offseason not addressing a top six forward to fill Guentzel's void. That would make Dubas look bad.
Graves and other defensemen will benefit from better coaching. Todd Reirden was responsible for coaching an ineffective defense and power play. He earned his firing.
