This is the kind of move I want Hughes making, take on a bad contract, get more assets and clears the logjam on defence. I'd be happy with this

I can’t see CGY passing on a LHD if Iginla isn’t available at 9th OA. IMO Catton is the guy who will fall in this year’s draft. Sam Dickinson is the best player available as well at 9th OA</div></div>
Fair but MBN floor is still a 3rd line RW and Eisermans is an AHL player! Sharks should not take the risk plus they already are fairly deep on LW

It's up to Anaheim if they want a Caufield-Zegras duo... but that's an idea at the end.

Before doing something like this ever again, I recommend that Chicago show some patience and wait until the draft is actually underway.
I would not have made this trade until it is the Isles' turn to pick at #18 and I got to see who the BPA is at #18.</div></div>
I'll be sure to forward your concerns to Kyle Davidson.

Is it that...or maybe they don't think post #50...there's much to get? Makes it easier to trade #61?
As a Hawks fan...I'm good with it. We have (had) a ton of 2nds. It's expensive to move up in the 1st. Sound of Hockey and Puckedia give the edge to the Isles, but barely. By a 5th I believe.
Kyle Davidson has been open about last year he tried to move up in the draft to get Oliver Moore higher, but he had no one willing to trade with. This is likely the reason why this move happened today vs draft day. He found someone willing so he took it.
https://chicago.suntimes.com/blackhawks/2023/6/28/23777849/blackhawks-oliver-moore-nhl-draft-pick-kyle-davidson-trades-second-round-preview-caleb-jones
***EDIT*** I'd also add that the Hawks can likely get another 2nd round pick by taking on another contract/cap...so Let's just see how this all plays out.

At that price, for sure I think MTL would do it. I'm thinking TB could get a better deal on Cirelli if they really shopped him though.

He will be cheaper though, if Vancouver can't afford Hronek then this gives them a young RHD that plays the same pick moving offense first game. With the salary cap the way it is teams are forced into this situation more and more, it sucks but unfortunately is the way it is these days

Even if X is worth a 1st round pick or a mid-rounder...he can still be unavailable. Players can be more valuable to a franchise than their market value. If someone tells you a player is off the table, just move on, don't start arguing "value", because the price to obtain said player will be >>> whatever you think market value is.

They get the leafs 1st rounder and then they flip Marner at the TDL for another 1st rounder and 2 prospects. Marner double retention is only around 2.75M. So in the end they would give up Savard + 24 first rounder in exchange they get Tor 24-first rounder, 25-first rounder and 2 prospects.</div></div>
The 5th overall pick is worth more than anything they would get back for a Marner rental. This is all aside from the fact that Marner wouldn't waive to go to a rebuilding team anyway.

Trade up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Habs_22_14_20</b></div><div>Depends how the draft goes
If Demidov goes 2nd, then ANA have no reason not to draft Levshunov at 3rd OA. In a scenario where Levshunov goes 2nd OA, maybe ANA could trade down to #5 to select someone like Zayne Parekh IF they really want a RHD, because otherwise they draft either Demidov or Lindstrom at 3rd. In terms of value, not sure ANA would ask for Owen Beck, they have their own future 3C in Nathan Gaucher. The MTL 2025 2nd round pick is enticing since it’s gonna be an early one. Maybe a Filip Mesar with more upside than an Owen Beck, idk</div></div>
Excellent analysis, because this is exactly what <strong><em>I</em></strong> was going to say.

Good group but not special
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Habs_22_14_20</b></div><div>Okay I don’t think you hate Newhook, but he only proved us he has a really good shot and speed. He was carrying his line big time, imagine playing with actual good players. He is not a top 6 F yet, but he is definitely higher than Mesar and Roy for exemple.
The chance Florian Xhekaj becomes a NHLer are slim, I think your expectations on him are too high. If he can become a 13th F, or 4th line grinder, than good.
I don’t think the group above can win a Stanley Cup, I think MTL future group will have the same parcours the Carolina Hurricanes are having. But a big UFA or big trade for an Elite F could change that. Just my opinion tho</div></div>
Even though we have small differences in how we perceive certain players, I think we are mostly aligned. This team needs to package some of these players in order to bring in a franchise forward.
