I just find it funny when other people believe they now for sure what players will do !
Their minds change from week to week let alone 2 years ago!
Maybe 2 years ago he felt they were on a upward trend and not going into the basement further!
You can make all the comments you want but none of us now what theses players are thinking right now!
I just try to make trades to teams to fill needs and MIGHT work for both teams.</div></div>
2 years ago we were at the early stages of a rebuild diving deeper into the toilet. We now finally have a large group of super promising young players to build around. But honestly that’s completely irrelevant.

At no point did I say he’s going to remain a Duck. We said he isn’t waiving for Toronto. And to think a single thing has changed in terms of why he would’ve vetoed Toronto 2 years ago, to why he’d now waive for them is total ignorance. It was widely believed that every Canadian team was on his no trade list prior to that comment in the first place. He’s a quiet dude that isn’t even a media guy by Anaheim’s standards, dude would hate it there.

If you want to make a trade that might work for both teams, I recommend 2 tweaks:
1. Trade for someone who didn’t make a public statement to the world saying they don’t want to play for TOR while holding a NTC
2. Offer assets the other team will actually value (0 for 2 on this one)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>Mercer scores as many GPG despite being a year younger and getting half the PP time yes.

Much better defensively.

Provides PK value that Zegras doesn’t.

And Zegras didn’t get a great bargain on his contract.

Mercer due to health provided more value than Zegras this year.

Mercer played flat out better than zegras last year.</div></div>

Goals per game: equal, not better

Mercer’s relative possession metrics at even strength: negative every year of his career for -2.6Corsi and -2.5Fenwick. Zegras is positive each year for +5.6 / +4.5

PK: Mercer plays PK and Zegras doesn’t. Unfortunately, Mercer again has a negative possession impact on his team comparatively for -1.9/-0.8

Power play: Mercer unsurprisingly maintains negative possession metrics, and has 20 pp points to his name. Zegras is +1.6/+0.9 and has 35

You won’t find a single ANA fan upset at Zegras in the $5Ms

I’ll give you health with a perfect health record for Mercer. Thats awesome. But at the same time Zegras had zero meaningful injuries dating back to pre-draft up until this season with 2 unrelated injuries. Also not worried about injury prone, but 100% gotta give health to Mercer

Last year Zegras played through the same injury that limited Couture to 6 games and then broke his ankle. The last 8 games of the season were the only healthy games he played at full minutes and he scored a point per game

I’m not saying any of this to disparage Mercer. But more just to say that pretending Mercer is outright better than Zegras is just kinda funny, and not borne out by really any statistical measure
