<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>this fills all the check boxes of a typical leafs trade.

"Get marner out of here he sucks"... but other teams should pay us an arm and a leg for him. Check.

Here is our garbage players that we don't want, they really aren't NHL caliber, have basically failed from where they were drafted, but you other teams should give us great value for them, because they are leafs and clearly better than anything on your own team because of that.... Check.

The typical leafs "toughness" or "culture" requirement. ... all get signed for their Grit....plays a style that we dearly need..... Check.

bravo, you made a capfriendly approved leafs post.</div></div>

You know why so many Leafs ACGMs are like that? It's because that is Trelivings track record, and he has stated multiple times that he has a similar goal with the Leafs. Nowhere did I say "Marner sucks", in fact he is my favourite player on the Leafs. There is literally zero urgency to move him. We aren't moving Marner for the sake of making a move, if he's getting traded it's because another team is offering something enticing for us. Tavares' deal expires in 1 season, so again, there is NO urgency to move Mitch. I'd be more than happy to keep him.

Also you went on this whole thing about Abruzzese being included (or atleast I assume that what you're on about), but that part of the deal is so minor. He's a fine young winger making league min. Don't like him? Just waive him. Or, better yet, forget he's in the trade because it literally makes no difference.

Keep s***ing on the Leafs, im sure it makes you feel so much better about yourself when you get to tear others down. Trying engaging in a healthy conversation for once in your life instead of being a dickhead.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dk325</b></div><div>I wish I could say I was surprised by how little Leafs fans are considering the Blue Jackets needs so far this off-season, but I'm really not anymore. This proposal is awful for the Jackets and they would not consider it.</div></div>

I wish I could say I was surprised by how little non-Leafs fans are considering Marners value to a team, but I'm really not anymore.

As someone who enjoys following the Blue Jackets, here is what I assume:
- Defense Group is set for the foreseeable future. Lots of young talented defensemen to go with Veterans that are locked in long term. Seems to be a lot of tension between CBJ and Jiricek, potentially making him a valuable trade asset.
- Goaltending isn't an issue by any means.
- Forward Group is fine, just need to wait for the young guys to come into their own.

How does adding a genuine superstar do anything other than help the Jackets? I feel like I'm not asking a ton considering the level of player you'd be getting in return. The Jackets with Marner are a playoff team and a serious threat. To say that the Jackets wouldn't so much as consider this offer is laughable, ESPECIALLY considering that the BPA at your draft pick will be a defenseman. Thus roster would be infinitely better than anything you could manage to put together without adding Marner:

Laine - Fantilli - Marner
Johnson - Jenner - Gaudreau
Voronkov - Sillinger - Marchenko
4th Liner - Kuraly - Olivier

Werenski - Severson
Provorov - Boqvist
Mateychuk - Gudbranson

Merzlikins
Tarasov

I'm assuming Texier gets dealt, doesn't seem like there's a definitive role for him. Not sure what to think of A. Nylander.

Regardless, Marner and a coach who isn't completely braindead transforms CBJ into a playoff team 🤷‍♂️

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rajvinder</b></div><div>Just throwing it out there that a few "insiders" I've spoken to have mentioned that they believe Mark Hunter is the leading GM candidate for both Edmonton (Holland is retiring) and Columbus.

Apparently he has recently been telling both teams that Marner would be a part of his strategy and given Marner's NMC that he feels he could get him cheap.

Pretty well known that Hunter put his job on the line to draft Mitch in Toronto and remains really close to Mitch and his family.

One person went as far as to say that the best case for Toronto might be if he goes to Columbus and they draft Sam Dickinson (London Knight) in which case Jirick and/or Mateychuck could become available in a Marner trade.

Also has someone say that they wouldn't be surprised if Hunter and Mitch worked together to hardball the Leafs including forcing Cowan into any Marner deal.</div></div>

I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest to see a Marner for a Jiricek trade materialize. Columbus seems like a hard sell, but if Hunter is there then I could definitely see it. Plus it's a smaller market which is something I'd definitely want if I were put in Mitchs position. Jiricek and Columbus' relationship seems tumultuous, and Jiricek would literally be a perfect addition to the Leafs blueline. CBJ is one of the few teams I think makes genuine sense as a landing spot for Marner. Replacing Jiricek with a more familiar and similarly skilled Sam Dickinson would be very solid for the Jackets. I don't hate the idea whatsoever, just feels like a lot of pieces need to fall into place for it to happen

Keefes post game comment was enough to send me back here for one last angry tirade against that pathetic excuse for a head coach.

For you guys who haven't seen the quote, it goes as follows: "When teams beat <em><strong>the Leafs</strong></em>, they set up the game for <strong><em>the Leafs</em></strong> to beat <strong><em>themselves</em></strong>"

Pretty choice wording here. First off, whose job is it to make sure the team sticks to the system? Whose job is it to adapt and manage the team? Whose job is it to react when teams start applying pressure? Whose job is it to keep your players heads straight? THATS YOUR JOB SHELDON. Actually, let me back it up; that <strong>used</strong> to be your job Sheldon. Kiss your spot on the bench goodbye and don't let the door hit you on the ass on your way out. You have done nothing for the Leafs and won't do anything for any other NHL teams unless they are looking to tank. If only your bulldog-like appearance also translated to a bulldog-like mentality. You can blame the players for sure, but YOU are just as big of a part of this team as they are, and YOU are largely to blame for this team setting themselves up for failure. Who decides to put the 4th line out at critical points in the game? Who decides to play Samsonov when it's abundantly clear Woll should play? Who decides to keep going back to the same old tactics that always fail? THATS YOU, SHELDON.

In good news, Keefes wording is pretty specific. He distances himself from the team, which is hopefully an indication of his inevitable departure from this team. We deserve so much better than some pathetic excuse for a head coach who thinks he's all that because he used to front as a tough guy back in the early 2000s. He thinks he's all that because the Marlies stacked team walked their way to a Calder Cup. My only hope is that this born loser is hired by another Atlantic division team so we can beat up on them in the first round.

Keefe is a coward who does not know hockey. He doesn't take any sort of accountability, gives a pass to our best players when they disappear, and rips into our other players when they occasionally make minor mistakes. Hope you enjoyed your time in the sun Sheldon, because you will never be a name anyone remembers outside of reminiscing about the Leafs plights prior to our Cup win. You will go down as a laughing stock and a detriment. Enjoy unemployment Sheldon

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Saskleaf</b></div><div>I’m going to lose it if Mitch Marner is a member of this team by next season. Year after year we have to put up with him turning invisible in the playoffs every year. It’s such a joke. Nobody is taking John Tavares but if you can find anyone to take on that useless hunk of junk trade him. And frankly I want us to start looking at Matthews trades. 69 goals in the regular season and only 1 in 5 playoff games. I don’t care what he was dealing with, it’s been the same crap year after year.</div></div>

It's not that this team would be better without Marner, it's that this team would be better if we didn't adopt that braindead "core 4" philosophy. When has a hockey team ever won off of the back of 4 players? If that's how it worked, Thornton and Marleau and Pavelski would have Cups.

Marner is the only member of the core 4 that can even be entertained in trade discussions. Nylander is locked up and a clutch player. Matthews is the franchise. Tavares is a dinosaur making 11mil. Marner is a good player who is a pending UFA with a full NMC. The fact that is our only tradeable asset out of the 4 shows how dire our situation is.

I know thay some fans fear that the Leafs will be too scared of getting fleeced and will just wind up committing to Marner long term. That wouldnt be the worst thing, but it makes next year rough. Marner is my favourite Leaf, but if he gets re-signed then next season is going to be tough to navigate. Not impossible to navigate, but so many domino's have to fall into place. If they don't move him, then it's a wash next year. Gotta wait until JT expires to even have a shred of hope for competing. Need to draft a 2C in the first round this year.

I dont think the Leafs need to trade Marner, but its definitely an avenue worth exploring if the value presents itself. Making a move for the sake of making a move when the oldest member of the core 4 is only one season away from expiring would set us so far back. I really doubt we see anything happen on that front.
