(WSH/TOR) - Edmundson for 2024 3rd (NYI), 2025 5th (CHI)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ritzy</b></div><div>Because it's worked so well? Maybe there's a world where the old school and the analytics can come together.</div></div>
The truth is every club uses analytics. They just use completely different stats that are proprietary to the clubs or whoever they contract out to do their stats. They also don't simply look at the analytics to evaluate players.
It's hysterical how the internet-analytics crowd thinks all this works because some guy made a card with no context.
More on topic, Edmundson is a warrior. Great add for a playoff club. Obviously he isn't going to eat 23 minutes a night anymore, but if you're the coach late in a tie-game in the playoffs do you want to send Edmundson out for that faceoff in your zone or Lilly? Easy choice, imo.
More raw talent means precisely zero in the postseason. You're going to get worn down in these series and use a lot of defensemen. Ideally you'd like to wear the other team down, too. That's why these type of defensemen always get "too much" at the deadline.

You are looking for reasons to be mad at Nylander if that was your take away. He put guys on his back and man handled them. He was all over the ice and making plays. Controlled entries all game. He's going to have a huge season.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aadoyle</b></div><div>Would you trade Kemell in a sign and trade for Willy so you get 6-8 years of Nylander guaranteed
Just a question</div></div>
How much Nylander gets on that next contract would be a factor of course, but I'm leaning towards no. The $9-10M or whatever he signs for would go to greater good elsewhere on NSH's roster (at center and RD), and I'm hopeful Kemell can match or come close to Nylander's production. I'm also concerned that at 27, he ages out of NSH's rebuild, and is in an expensive decline just as NSH gets competitive again.
An extended Nylander for a Kemell level prospect could be a good deal for a team like CAR or NYR, but NSH isn't in a position to take advantage of the rest of Nylander's best years.

Tampa Bay Lightning signed Brandon Hagel (8 Years / $6,500,000 AAV)
Let's list all the non-ELC 30+ goal scorers:
McDavid 12.5mm
Pasta 11.25
Rantanen 9.25
Drai 8.5
Point 9.5
Tage 7.1 (funny people pooped on this deal too)
Robertson 7.75
Hughes 8.0
Mac 12.6
Ovi 9.5
Scheifele 6.125
Verhaege 4.17(signed after scoring 9G)
Kempe 5.5 (signed after scoring 14 G)
Kapri 9.0
Matthews 11.6
McCann 5.0
Meier 8.8
Nylander 6.9
Tkachuk 9.5
Kuzmenko 5.5
Petterson 7.3
Stutzle 8.35
Zib 8.5
Horvat 8.5
Hintz 8.45
Keller 7.15
Kyrou 8.13
RNH 5.13 (signed after scoring 16 G)
I don't think I need to keep going to prove my point. 30+ goal scorers at $6.5mm just do not exist, especially in a new cap world that begins next year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NorthernLeafsFan05</b></div><div>I cannot understand this trade for the life of me. I get Pittsburgh wants to compete with their window rapidly closing, but this is going to get bad quick. The money San Jose retained on EK65 is the same amount that Pittsburgh retained on Petry, so thats a wash. The Pens really didnt have to give up a whole bunch, but I just cant see EK65 repeating his 22 / 23 season. Pittsburgh obviously wins in the now, but that contract is going to SUCK in a year or two.
Don't get me wrong, I am excited to watch Karlsson with Crosby, Malkin, and Letang based on nostalgia alone, but I dont think this was good for either team. Especially San Jose lol. Somehow the Habs came out really well here, not sure how Hughes managed to pull that one off</div></div>
Dubas likes to make a splash when he takes over the helm. There was no Tavares available in free agency, so he had to trade for the biggest name available.

There was no arbitration ruling dingbat, they came to terms before the arbitration hearing. If Terry had been awarded an arbitration award, it would have been a two year maximum contract.
Terry submitted 8 to the Arbitrator, Anaheim submitted 4.5. 6.25 would have been the middle ground the arbitrator would have centered around, they gave him 7 with term.

Yeah, for the non-Matthews/Nylander guys it was more about illustrating what types of contracts could be fit, as opposed to trying to make sure the value matched up correctly. Whether it's Bertuzzi or someone else, I'm sure you can get a very good LW1 to put next to Matthews & Marner for that $6M AAV - same goes for Ghost at LD2,

I saw that Nylander/Liljegren for Nelson/Romanov proposal earlier today and literally just said "oh come on man" out loud. It's not even that it's a *terrible* deal - just one that seems to not meet anyone's needs and just moves Nylander for the sake of moving him.

Carolina Hurricanes signed Sebastian Aho (8 Years / $9,750,000 AAV)
The offer sheet from Montreal ironically helped Carolina in the long run. The Hurricanes were refusing to budge from an 8 year deal when Montreal signed Ago at 5. Had Aho signed for 8, he would not have been that much cheaper than what he got at 5, but his contract would have expired 3 years later. 3 years from now, with the cap projected to increase, Aho might be a 12-14 million dollar player. Who knows.
