only realistic Zegras trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Anus_McLeod</b></div><div>Personally, I like it for the Ducks. Gives them a RHD for the pipe and a couple more opportunities to get an impact player via trade or the draft.
Only concern is the off ice stuff with Mailloux, and that's not just a minor point.</div></div>
Thats an extremely minor point. What happened with Mailloux was misreported. Due to the outrage/backlash, he had to make up for behavior that was far beyond what he actually did. He has taken ownership of his mistakes, while not at all arguing any of the misreported facts or shown any amount of defense for himself.
The OHL punished him, he took it.
The NHL punished him, he took it.
The Habs brought him up slowly as to not draw attention, he took it.
He has attended all his off ice training and according to those involved (3rd party) he is turning this mistake into being a better person and a rolemodel for those around him.
Lets be honest here. If he did what he did in North America, none of us even hear about it because he was a minor. But because he was in Sweden, we found out he took a picture of the top of an older girls head, and bra straps, while she performed oral sex, and then told his team about it. Its gross behaviour, but so is reporting it as "rape" as the NHL reporters all dog piled on a 17 year old kid. And misguided fans continue to do to this day.
But Mailloux is not available, so you dont have to worry about it. We arent creating a hole in our RD to get a coaches nightmare in Zegras.

I'll say it again, Davidson is one of the worst GM's in the league. This trade makes absolutely no sense RIGHT NOW. It would be different if this trade happened during draft day and a big player was slipping, but it makes zero sense to trade away a 2nd round pick right now.

Montreal 2024 Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DJPaulyB</b></div><div>Habs fans really have to stop looking for ways to trade matheson. Matheson alone is potentially 2/3x more valuable then Necas. Necas is a 2C at best / Could be a 3C. Matheson played like a number 1 defeneseman last year, top 15 in the league in points. He has most likely 5 years of good play left. To all habs fans listening: Don't. Trade. Him.</div></div>
Necas is not even a center, he is a winger who can fill in at center, he won't return much more than Lehkonen did but Canes fans are gonna say he is worth what Suzuki is. Matheson isnt worth double what Neas is though, if a trade involving the two happened, I think the Canes would have to add maybe a 2nd.

No offense but anaheim would take that and run.
Nobody is offering a 5th overall pick calibre asset for zegras. He wasnt even a 5th overall pick.
You can always move hutson and even 50 cents on the dollar on the return you are miles ahead of any other offer

Agree with all this, Snowhawk; thx.

Not true. Demidov is clearly the best player available at 2nd OA. If MTL is trading up to 2nd overall, they are trading up for Demidov.

What it takes to move UP to 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ste_Catherine_Street</b></div><div>No Habs won't trade that.. because that 2025 1st rounder can also be a strong lottery pick, obviously the Habs wouldn't trade that.
That CGY pick is pretty certain, most of the conditions are already gone. Its almost certain to be CGY's pick next year</div></div>
Fair. I was going to offer that MTL could make the 2025 1st have top ten protection, but unsure that'd help...
If what it comes down to, then, is MTL's #5 OA, plus WPG's #27 and CGY's 2025 1st, plus Beck and Barron, I'd prolly do it. Which means it might be too good a deal for the Hawks - i.e., that the Habs would NOT do it, LOL.
Thanks for being willing to discuss this. Unlike 2023 - when not a single 1st round trade occurred - I sense a bevy of trades may happen in the first round this year.
Cheers

Won't get fair value, sure, but why take someone who undercuts so much of the cap relief from moving Marner? Getting a well-valued 5 mil player for Marner would be a win, not an 8.5-mil guy who has played like a sub-2 mil guy? Leafs have 15-goal scorers already,

Crazy idea to really upset CGY
I'm sure both Chicago and San Jose rather just make those picks. Alot of teams have guys like Harris and Barron, they aren't a hard to come by commodity. I'm not knocking them as I think they can both be players it's just they aren't hard to find. There are UFAs that yes will be more expensive but they are also better, if the team wants to compete now than that's probably the direction.
When talking about 20th overall, there may very well be some players rated top 15 fall to that pick. That's not as likely to happen at 27. So if they like a player at that spot, they take that player.
Similar with 14 overall. Alot of good players in the top 15 but someone who that team feels is top 10 might fall to them. Again they take that player.
Same same with The Seattle pick, top 5 could fall to 8.
The biggest flaw is the fact you have teams trading their picks before they even know who is available. So no chance that happens at all. The teams will have to know who's available at their pick before trading it and know that a player that value is likely going to be available at that later pick.
