Im not joking
The term "America's Team" is a nickname that refers to the National Football League (NFL)'s Dallas Cowboys. The nickname originated with the team's 1978 highlight film apparently
The more you learn lul
But whose the second and third team thats the real question we should be asking lul</div></div>
There in reality is no such thing as America or Canada's team (unless you count sports where there's only 1 team in the country in which case the Blue Jays and Raptors are literally Canada's team because there is no other canadian based team)

Heck even an EDM article from this year broke it down almost the same: defending may be okay to mediocre, he occasionally makes serious lapses now and then, but he is very good offensively.</div></div>
Valid. To call out someone saying their opinion when all you're doing is voicing an opinion is hilarious
I'm just sitting here with a bucket of popcorn saying "get em" so I'm part of the problem too.

Yeah, if the ice was only 'graded' for the offensive part/side of the game, he'd be in the top 10 DMen NHL-wise.
BUT
His on ice "D"-side of the game in reality is borderline base-NHL/AHL level currently...
That said - he's on "Team CAN for 2025 Nations Cup" LOL!!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oneX</b></div><div>Even if it was other coaches saying that to him, he didn't have to make that public. It reeks of the same kind of lack of understanding as coaching in a market like this one.
I wanted him fired 2 years ago because I felt (and still do) he didn't really have good system, couldn't inspire the players to elevate their game and in game adjustments were pretty much non existent for most of his coaching tenure here. Him making those comments public speaks to how he wasn't the coach this team needed.</div></div>
What's the problem with making it public? It's not like he's diminishing the Leafs, he himself is speaking to how the Toronto market is unique in the sport and on another level. If you wanna get mad at these coaches that he's referencing, whatever, but anger towards Keefe, a guy who, despite a lack of success, was with this organization for like a decade and gave it his all and considered it an honour to coach the Leafs and had one of the classiest send off messages I've ever seen, over <em>this</em> of all things is really strange .

I agree with you 100%, I’m now hoping for the Devils to fail too, do you think he gets fired before his contract with the Devils kicks in? Dubas should consider himself lucky that he’s had a year away from the Toronto media, and a main talking point is not “this classless guy is Dubas’ pick and has coached for him at multiple levels”.</div></div>
Y'all do understand that these are the words of other NHL coaches right?? Getting upset towards Keefe about this is such a weird response.

In the end Domi wants stability and has repeated numerous times he wants to stay
TOR likes him but there also flaws to his game
So for both sides working on a long term low cap hit deal is the wise move
Nick Paul signed a 3.15m x 7 year deal to stay with TBL. 3.5m x 6 year deal for Domi aint the worst. Heck give him the full NMC if thats all he wants
He gets stability and wont have to worry about joining his 10th team or whatever number he's at rn</div></div>
You don't give Domi an NMC. But that's the type of contract they should be looking for

It would take an <em>outrageous </em>amount of futures. Taking the Dubois contract alone would cost a huge premium, let alone sending Marner back the other way
Even with the futures, it's still probably not worth it cause the Leafs can't then use them to address needs because they're being anchored by Dubois.

I want nothing to do with him.</div></div>
That is a really weird take. He was good in Arizona and good in Ottawa. No one's saying he's a bonafide 1D right now, but that's a guy who can put up 15-20(+) goals and 40-50(+) points from the backend while also being pretty solid defensively. Why on Earth would you want nothing to do with him?

At this point excusing them and saying we should keep em is the definition of insanity
Lets waste more time and then by the time we finally all realize hey this didnt work Matthews will be going see yah. Last thing we want is to become SJS 2.0

We'll see. Just can't blame absolutely everything on the previous coach. That's part of the problem, not taking accountability for some of what goes on out on the ice.
The coach, no matter who he is does not go out there and play. Players still have to take some accountability for that.

I wasn't talking specifically about this year's playoffs. I was taking the entire 7-8 years into account. Yes I know Nylander has been consistent with the goals but especially starting next season, just goals are not good enough. Nylander needs to remember there's 3 zones of the rink and not being dialed in on defensive assignments when the puck is in the Leafs end will absolutely be unacceptable.

I like the idea of adding another 1st rounder this year, it would be lovely to walk away from this draft having solved our center and defense issues in the long term.
I really like the idea of adding guys like Josh Doan and Jack McBain (among other pieces of course), and it does seem like Utah will want to compete immediately. I don't hate the idea of Doan and pick #6, granted I don't think Arizona would love that. Doan and Dicky for Mitch would be a fine deal. Plus, it would be neat to see Josh join his Dad in Toronto now that his chance to play in AZ is gone</div></div>
I'd wonder if BT would try to model it after the Tkachuk deal. Don't think he'd get as high end players back, but maybe something along the lines of (and I know Marner probably wouldn't waive for Ottawa, this is just an example) Batherson, Chychrun, Bos 1st

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>I watched some of the jets game today. And comparing their style vs TO's is ridiculous. They skate so fast and pressure you in waves. TO is predictable. They cycle in the offensive zone and slowly. Sure it works in the regular season but in the playoffs. Teams figure it out, keep us to the outside and then we can't score. And Keefe does nothing to adjust. Like zero rush chances with this system. The PP is also predictable as well.
It's systems stuff and adjustments need to be made to attack what the opposing team gives us and that doesn't happen. So it's hard to pin the blame on the core. They have produced, not enough to mask the flaws on the team obviously but they have produced. And that production has come in spite of the poor game planning and coaching.</div></div>
Notice that I named players from many different teams and could have kept going on with that list. But anyway...
I have a comparable for you. From strictly a coaching point of view, Toronto and Edmonton were similar in that Keefe and Woodcroft. I feel similarly about Woodcroft to how I feel about Keefe but the difference has been is McDavid and Draisaitl have been showing up regardless of who is coach.
We'll just have to agree to disagree with the discussion of core guys making a difference.
