Draft Day Trade Scenarios

Description
Just trying to gauge some possible Draft Day trades.
I personally want us to either pick at #15 or try and move up if it doesn't cost too much.
Most mock drafts have players going all over so I could see this actually being a pretty wild draft. I see players mocked to go in top 15 then the same players in the second round. It might end up being worth while to trade down if there are a few surprises early in the draft and some of the players we like are still on the board.
Which moves do you like? What other kind of moves would you like to see at the draft?

DET
    2024 1st Round Pick - #10
    Pick: Berkley Catton

I could see New Jersey being okay with moving down to add assets. The rest of the teams between #8-12 don't really need to add extra assets and likely want to add a specific player. In all reality, if any of the other teams wanted to make this deal, then that's fine as well, it's just more if an example.

    Move up scenario.

This I could see happening if a player that really really like is still available and they know he isn't going to make it to their pick. A couple players I would do this for are, Berkley Catton, Tij Iginla, Anton Silayev and Cayden Lindstrom. I think there is a good chance we see at least one of these players at #10.
    2.
    DET
    1. Karlsson, William
    Additional Details:
    2024 1st Round Pick - #19
    Pick: Terik Parascak

This is something that could happen if Vegas decides to shed some cap from the roster and really likes a player available at #15. Detroit sends them a replacement player with some upside, who will be cheap to sign.
    VGK
    1. 15th Overall, 1st
    2. Berggren, Jonatan
    Additional Details:
Move down to improve the team scenario

Detroit moves down to #19 but in doing so, they get a player that will make the team better. Karlsson would be a good add and could fill the second line centre spot. This would allow Compher to move to the wing or 3C. Give us extra centre depth in case we lose Larkin again.
For the pick, my top choice is Brandsegg-Nygard but he is likely gone before #19. Other players I would target are Sennecke, Parascak, Jiricek, Connelly, Stiga, Basha, Hage and Elick
    3.
    DET
      2024 1st Round Pick - #20
      Pick: Beckett Sennecke
      2024 2nd Round Pick - #54
      Pick: Ilya Nabokov

Chicago has the assets to trade up to try and get a player they like more. If Detroit has a couple players on their list they are comfortable with and expect to be available at #20, then this could be an option.
      CHI
      1. 15th Overall, 1st
      Additional Details:
      Trade down scenario

This would give Detroit a couple options, make the pick (like I'm displaying here) or package it with our other second round pick to try and get into the late first round or very early second round.
I have Detroit taking Sennecke but any of the players I listed on the Vegas trade would be good. With the pick acquired from Chicago, I have us taking the KHL goalie Ilya Nabokov. I know we have Cossa and Augustine who are both looking good but you can never have too much insurance with goaltenders as far as I'm concerned. If people are worried about his size, which I have seen some comments about, he's only a inch smaller than Shesterkin and same height as Augustine.
      4.
      DET
        2024 1st Round Pick - #29
        Pick: Andrew Basha

Just used Colorado as a place holder since we don't know the order yet, but I could see them potentially having interest in this to add more assets. Ideally get the best pick possible but I think a realistic target is between #28-32.
        COL

        2. 47th Overall, 2nd
        Additional Details:
Possible continuation of the Chicago trade

Packaging both of these seconds to try and get into the late first round or very early second round.

Players I would target are Basha, Emery, Elick, Hage, Howe, Chernyshov
        5.
        DET
          2024 1st Round Pick - #20
          Pick: Beckett Sennecke
          2024 2nd Round Pick - #34
          Pick: Igor Chernyshov

Just a different variation of the above Chicago trade. Chicago moves up in the first round but moves down in the second round.
          CHI
          1. 15th Overall, 1st
          2. 47th Overall, 2nd
          Additional Details:
Detroit gets to move up to ideally select someone who might have slipped in the draft. They should still get a pretty good player at #20.
          6.
          DET
            2024 4th Round Pick - #112

Could see us moving a player for a pick at the draft. Used Ottawa and our own 4th. Minor deal really though.

            DET
              2024 2nd Round Pick - #37
              Pick: Matvei Gridin

Winnipeg is just a placeholder, could be any team within this range.

Detroit could look at moving up in the second round to try and snag someone that might have fallen a bit. Elick, Emery, Atramonov, Chernyshov, Gridin or similar would be examples.

I feel like, if CHI were trading up to 15, it would probably be to take Sennecke. He could be one of the guys that sneak into the top 10 if teams aren't as high on defensemen as the public scouts think. Also, it seems likely that Chernyshov goes in the mid 1st round.

I could see both of your points. Alot of players are rated high in some draft boards and then quite a bit lower in others. Going to be interesting.
How is the value of that Chicago trade?

I'd rather if they move 15 make it for an NHL ready asset instead of just shuffle picks.

As far as draft pick values, it's almost right on. Not sure if CHI will want to move their own 2nd, though. We'll see I guess. Anything could happen.

The Hawks could definitely be a partner in a deal for #15. That seems like a text book Kyle from Chicago move. Your 1st scenario of #15 for #20 + a 2nd seems the more likely of the two. And agree w/ you 100% on players being rated all over the place. Very little consensus after the top 12.

Yeah. I was thinking the same thing.

Also, I kind of wonder if Nabokov might go later, being an overager.

No opinion on Nabokov. Haven't even researched him to be honest.

Fantastic young goalie. He is an overager in the draft at 21 years old, though. Only 6ft 1in, so he's a little on the smaller side. Plays with Kantserov and won the Gagarin Cup in the KHL as Metallurg's full time starter. I've been secretly hoping CHI snags him.

I'll check him out. I'd be a little surprised if the Hawks drafted a G two years in a row in the 2nd round though.

I'll check him out. I'd be a little surprised if the Hawks drafted a G two years in a row in the 2nd round though.

He could probably come in and be NHL back up. Put up some really good numbers in the KHL. I think he has at least another season over there, not sure on that though.

Is he the son of the former Sharks goalie Nabokov?

Hawks could have their own Russian invasion for the 25/26 season. Nabokov, Demidov, Kantserov, Safonov. Not quite the Russian 5 but...

I doubt he goes in the 2nd round. Overagers generally don't go that early, but especially goalies.

haha. Nah. No relation. I wondered the same thing when I first heard about him, though.

I loved watching the Russian 5.

Sharks actually helped Detroit complete it. LOL

They traded Igor Larionov for Ray Sheppard.

              Wings never looked back.

              Kozlov Larionov Fedorov Fetisov Konstantinov

It was like watching video of the old Russian Red Army teams. 😁

Yeah. I remember CHI playing against him. He was good!

Yeah. That was around the same time CHI sucked and they were blacked out on TV. I actually was a DET fan for a bit when I was a kid because of that... Plus, DET was just too damn good not to watch. And then my favorite player, Chelios, was traded there.

              Very true.

I recall the Sharks pulling off the big upset against Detroit in 1994.

Red Wings didn't take them seriously until it was too late.

Scotty Bowman's first year as head coach IIRC.

I remember Chris Osgood crying after game 7. 😭

But then Bowman taught them how to play the LW Lock and the rest is history.

              Entertaining team for sure!

Trade up is my ideal scenario but like you said I don't see a ton of teams being interested in moving down if a guy like catton start to fall.
